Amara Daugherty’s Big Day Propels North Allegheny Past North Hills in Game 1

Amara Daugherty drove in four runs on four hits to lead the North Allegheny Varsity Tigers past North Hills, 15-11, on Sunday.

Both offenses came out strong at the plate, with North Allegheny collecting 21 hits and North Hills adding 17 in the high-scoring contest.

North Hills struck first in the bottom of the first inning, scoring one run.

In the top of the second, North Allegheny reclaimed the lead after A. Daugherty tripled and Anna Kovacic hit a sacrifice fly, each bringing in a run.

The Tigers broke the game open in the top of the third, scoring seven runs on seven hits. Megan Sweeney doubled to drive in one, Lily Daugherty singled home another, Olivia Klaich followed with an RBI single, and Amara Daugherty tripled to bring in two more. Kovacic and Viola Laswell each added RBI singles to cap the inning.

The teams traded runs throughout the rest of the game. North Hills cut into the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third to make it 9–4.

North Allegheny extended the lead again in the fourth when Asha Vaders hit a sacrifice fly, Lily Daugherty and Klaich each singled in runs, making it 13–4.

North Hills mounted a comeback in the fifth, scoring four runs, and added three more in the sixth. North Allegheny countered with a Klaich RBI single in the fifth and a Vaders RBI double in the sixth to stay in front.

Laswell started in the circle for the Tigers, allowing 17 hits and 11 runs (six earned) over six innings. Klaich came on in relief and tossed a scoreless seventh to close out the win.

Megan Sweeney also collected four hits for North Allegheny. Lily Daugherty and Klaich tallied three hits apiece, while Laswell and Zoey Bornt added two each. Vaders and Ava Combs each added a hit each.

The Tigers also turned one double play in the game.

Hits Aplenty in North Allegheny Tigers’ Victory Over North Hills in Game 2

Bats were blistered as the North Allegheny Tigers outshone North Hills 19-9 in five innings on Sunday. North Allegheny collected 25 hits, while North Hills tallied 11 in the high-scoring affair.

The Tigers rallied for the victory after falling behind 4-0 in the top of the first inning.

North Allegheny flipped the game on its head in the bottom half of the inning, scoring eight runs on seven hits to take an 8-4 lead. The biggest blows came from two North Hills errors that brought in three runs. Anna Kovacic, Viola Laswell, and Jordan Phillips each singled in a run, while Asha Vaders and Ava Combs each doubled in a run apiece.

The Tigers kept rolling in the second inning, adding seven more runs on nine hits. Lily Daugherty, Olivia Klaich, Claudia Kushon, Amara Daugherty, and Kovacic each drove in a run, while Laswell capped the inning with a two-RBI single.

North Allegheny added another run in the third when L. Daugherty singled down the right-field line, extending the lead to 16-4.

North Hills answered with a few runs in the fourth, scoring on a pair of singles and a triple to cut into the deficit.

The Tigers struck right back in the bottom half, plating two more runs to make it 18-6. Kushon hit a solo inside-the-park home run, and Laswell added an RBI single.

North Hills pushed across three runs in the top of the fifth to make it 18-9, but North Allegheny ended the game in the bottom half of the inning by virtue of the 10-run rule when L. Daugherty singled home Megan Sweeney.

Klaich got the start in the circle for North Allegheny, allowing 11 hits and nine runs (six earned).

At the plate, Laswell led the way with four RBIs and went 3-for-3 on the day. Zoey Bornt, L. Daugherty, and Kushon each also collected three hits. Kovacic, A. Daugherty, Phillips, and call-ups Evie Sattler and Ava Combs each recorded multiple hits, while Sweeney also added one. The Tigers turned one double play in the win.

North Allegheny will travel to Mt. Lebanon for their next game on Sunday evening.
