NA Seniors Pave Way In 8-0 Win Over Latrobe

In dominating fashion, the North Allegheny Field Hockey Team clinched its third straight outright Section 1-AAA crown with an 8-0 triumph over the Latrobe Wildcats on Wednesday night. It was senior night at Newman Stadium and the Lady Tiger seniors put on an offensive showcase against their section foe. In a complete team effort, seven different Tigers scored goals and five of the goal scorers were seniors.

Riding the emotional high of senior night, North Allegheny gave Latrobe little chance and pounced on the Wildcats with a flurry of goals in the first half. Senior Hannah Downing opened the floodgates with a goal just 3:26 into the game and the Tigers added on three more markers within the first 13 minutes of the contest. Senior Megan Guzzardi, senior Nicole Burns and junior Maddy Snyder all tallied first half goals to give NA a 4-0 lead at intermission.

In the second half, North Allegheny finished off Latrobe with four more goals. Senior Kailey Vogl, senior Jessica Brandon and sophomore Erin Coran added goals and Guzzardi scored her second of the night to give the Lady Tigers a convincing 8-0 victory. In a night where just about everyone made a contribution, it was senior Nicole Burns who was selected as the Wright Automotive Player of the Game, scoring one goal and adding two assists.

North Allegheny improves to 13-3 overall and 9-0 in Section 1-AAA. Latrobe falls to 2-6-1 in the section with the loss.  The Lady Tigers have a non-section contest at Upper St. Clair on Monday night.  Start time is slated for 8:00 pm.
