NA Swimmers Battling At PIAA Championships

The North Allegheny Girls and Boys Swim Teams are competing at Bucknell University on Wednesday and Thursday as part of the 2014 PIAA Swimming and Diving Championships.  At the end of Day 1 competition on Wednesday, both the Tiger Girls and Boys squads held second place in the AAA team competition.  Hershey maintains the lead in the Girls competition, while LaSalle College controls the Boys points chase.

Highlights included Zachary Buerger swimming to victory for the Tigers in the Boys 200 Yard Individual Medley with a time of 1:45.64.  The NA Girls also had some solid performances with Kayla Churman claiming 4th place in the 100 Butterfly and Maggie Root earning an 8th place finish in tbat event.  Sam Rutan swam to a 5th place finish in the Boys 200 Yard Freestyle while Morgan Soulia grabbed 6th place in the Girls 200 Yard Individual Medley.

Other points were earned by the Boys 200 Yard Medley Relay team of Buerger, Casey Melzer, Greg Arnold, and Max Staresinic who finished in 2nd place, and the 200 Freestyle Relay squad of Staresinic,  Daniel Songer, Rutan, and Arnold finishing in 4th place. Also contributing for the Tiger Boys was Andrew Doerfler who earned 14th place in a very competitive diving competition.

The Tiger Girls Medley Relay team of Jacquelyn Du,  Erin Kuhn, Churman, and Soulia earned 2nd place, as did the Freestyle Relay squad of Du, Lauren McGrath, Root, and Soulia.
