NA Tennis Duo Fall In Heartbreaker At WPIAL Doubles Championship

Posted on:

Indoors again Tuesday at the Lakevue Racquet Club, the Tiger tennis duo of senior Kevin Goth and sophomore Jared Isaacs tangled with the number one seeded team from Shady Side Academy, Chris Grubbs and Michael Kann, and fell just short of WPIAL gold.  In a tight and exciting three set match the Shady Side duo prevailed over the hard charging Tigers.  Spotting Shady Side the first set 6-3, the Tigers bounced back and took the second set 6-4.  The third set offered the high stakes tennis associated with AAA play.  Down a break early in the set and facing elimination at 4-5, the Tigers broke and evened the score.  Two breaks later, the set headed into the deciding tie break which was a see saw affair.  Each team traded winners and had leads, but when the dust settled Shady Side took the extra frame 8-6 along with the WPIAL title.

Goth and Isaacs represented the Tigers and Section 2 proudly and will move on to the PIAA Championship in Hershey, PA on May 23.   The Tiger team returns to action with a scrimmage against Mt. Lebanon on the NASH courts Wednesday afternoon with a starting time of 3:30 PM.  They then host the Fox Chapel Foxes at home Thursday in the first round of the WPIAL Team Championship at 3:30 PM.
