
NA Tops Fox Chapel, 3-1
The North Allegheny field hockey team picked up its first win of the season on Tuesday afternoon, 3-1, at Fox Chapel in a non-section contest.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Tigers scored the game’s first goal when senior Isla Abrams found freshman Addison Burns along the post for her first career goal with 2:55 left before halftime for a 1-0.
In the third quarter, the speedy Abrams burned past the defense for a breakaway goal with 1:06 on the clock for a 2-0 lead. With 7:47 remaining in the fourth period, Abrams struck again and drove home a rebound to put the Tigers in command, 3-0. Fox Chapel senior Mia Costello broke the NA shutout with a goal with 4:27 left, brining the score to its eventual final, 3-1.
Senior goalie Kayla Joyce made the start in net and tallied nine saves to earn the victory. The Tigers outshot the Foxes, 20-12, and led in penalty corners, 9-5.
North Allegheny improves to 1-1 overall with the non-section triumph. The Tigers will host Mt. Lebanon on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the section opener at Newman Stadium. The game will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
