NATF Cruises Past Competition at WPIAL Semifinals

The North Allegheny boys’ and girls’ track and field teams breezed past the competition at the WPIAL Class AAA semifinals on Wednesday afternoon at NASH. The Boys defeated Hampton (132-18), Canon-McMillan (102-48) and Blackhawk (121-29). The Lady Tigers topped Hempfield (88-62), Canon-McMillan (96-54) and Blackhawk (130-20).

First-place performances for the NA Boys included junior Jack Bertram (1600m Run), senior Zach Duckworth (Pole Vault), junior Nicholas Humphries (Long Jump), sophomore Nathan Orlando (Discus Throw) and junior Jack Yatchenko (Shot Put).  The relay teams in the 4×800 and 4×100 also took first place.

The Tigers thoroughly dominated in the pole vault and shot put, taking 1-2-3 in each event. Along with Duckworth’s first-place effort, seniors Nathan Slade and Triston Chick grabbed second and third place, respectively, in the pole vault. Following Yatchenko in the shot put, senior Cameron Chmura and junior Kyle Langdon placed second and third.

The Lady Tigers were equally impressive with first-place performances turned in by sophomore Mackenzie Winning (400m Dash and 200m Dash), senior Erin McGoey (1600m Run), junior Izzy Costa (100m Dash), junior Kendall Lucas (800m Run), junior Wren Kucler (3200m Run), senior Sophie Aglietti (Pole Vault) and junior Jamie Frisco (Shot Put). The 4×800 Relay also took first place.

The NA Girls garnered a 1-2-3 showing in the 3200m Run. Following Kucler’s first-place effort, senior Eva Kynaston and McGoey finished in second and third, respectively.

The North Allegheny track and field team advances to the WPIAL Class AAA championship on Tuesday, May 7 at 3:00 p.m. at West Mifflin High School.
