No. 1 Hempfield Tops NA
The No. 1-ranked Hempfield Spartans traveled to North Allegheny on Tuesday afternoon and combined timely hitting with strong pitching to defeat the Tigers, 7-0. Hempfield senior starter and Notre Dame recruit Morgan Ryan limited NA to two hits to earn the shutout victory. The Tiger hits came from junior left fielder Anna Pilotta and freshman second baseman Bri McDonough, but NA could not move a runner across the plate. North Allegheny had some opportunities on well-hit balls, but a solid Hempfield defense aided Ryan in her efforts. The Tigers played a solid game as well, with only a four-run third inning blemishing an otherwise good defensive performance. Sophomore Brooke Serbin and freshman Megan Smith combined to hold Hempfield to three earned runs, with Smith allowing just one run in four innings of relief.
The loss puts North Allegheny’s overall record at 11-6, with a game scheduled at Montour’s Fairhaven Park on Wednesday evening at 6:00 PM. Hempfield completed its regular season with a perfect 20-0 mark.
