It was another great day for the NA Boys’ Tennis Team as history was made once again at the WPIAL Championships on Thursday. For the first time this millennium, and only fourth time in WPIAL history, two players from the same school squared off in the WPIAL AAA Singles Final. For the first time in NA’s storied history, those two players were Tigers. On a sun-soaked afternoon, junior Advaita Sircar and senior Evan Kaufman battled each other for WPIAL gold. In the end, Sircar proved too much for Kaufman, as he won his second championship in three years.

In a tremendous show of respect and sportsmanship, the two teammates actually warmed up with each other before squaring off in the championship match. Sircar would grab an early lead with consecutive holds and breaks. Kaufman, who unveiled a sleeker and shinier appearance for the tournament, would not go quietly getting on the board in his third and fourth service games. However, another hold by Sircar, and the first set was in the books, 6-2.

The second set began with a marathon game on Kaufman’s serve. Both players had several game points to claim the lead. Once again, it was Sircar with an early break that he would ride to a commanding lead. Kaufman showed his mettle and got on the board late, but Sircar, the champion that he is, would not relinquish the advantage taking the set, and the match, 6-1.

Not only is it Sircar’s second crown, but he becomes the first NA player to win multiple AAA Singles Championships in the team’s illustrious history. The Tiger’s star, who seems on a mission to rewrite the history books, continues to prove he is one of the program’s best ever.

Both players will advance to the PIAA Singles Championships to be played on May 22-23 in Hershey, PA. Congratulations to both Tigers!
