Sircar, Kaufman Advance to WPIALs, Set Up All-NA Final
by: Boys Tennis Contributor
At Wednesday’s section singles tournament, both junior captain, Advaita Sircar and senior captain, Evan Kaufman qualified for the WPIAL Singles Championship. By virtue of their stellar early season play, both players were given the top two seeds. Seeded #1 overall, Sircar moved on to the second round with a 10-0 victory over the Butler’s #2 Landin Schooley, while second-seeded Kaufman defeated Joey Saad, 10-0.
In the quarterfinal round, Sircar again advanced with ease by eliminating the Seneca Valley #1 Marcos Lopez, 10-0. Kaufman also faced little resistance in downing the Pine Richland #2, Arav Amin, 10-0. The wins earned the pair passage into the section semi-finals and an automatic WPIAL Championship birth.
The semifinals saw more of the same from Sircar who thrashed the Will Bojalad from Sewickley Academy, 6-0, 6-0. That marks the third straight year Sircar has advanced to the section final without losing a single game. Kaufman had a slightly tougher time with the Sewickley Academy #1, Johan Harmon, but still cruised, 6-2, 6-1.
Tomorrow features an all-NA section singles final for the second time in three years. Moreover, the same two Tigers met in the final two years ago with Sircar winning, 6-1, 2-1, retired.
The championship and consolation matches are set to begin at 1:00 PM at Pennsylvania Tennis Academy.
