At Thursday’s Section 2 Singles Tournament, two Tigers squared off against each other for the second time in three years. Senior captain Evan Kaufman looked to dethrone the reigning Section 2 champion as he took on his teammate and fellow captain, junior Advaita Sircar. In the end, it was Sircar who would take the match and his third consecutive Section Championship.

Sircar started the match strong by holding serve at love. He followed that up with a quick break and another hold at love. Eventually taking a commanding 5-0 lead in the first set. Kaufman would not go quietly as he held to make it 5-1, but Sircar closed out the set on his next service game.

The second set began with a marathon game on Kaufman’s serve. The pair traded some great shots and the game contained some of the match’s best rallies, but once again, Sircar got the early break. As he did in the first set, Sircar then went on a run to take a 4-0 lead. Kaufman attempted one last grasp at the upset as he held to make it 4-1. Here again, Sircar was undeterred and held at love, thereby losing just 4 points on serve in the match. After one more break, the match and three-peat belonged to Sircar. Congratulations, Advaita!

Both Tigers will advance to next week’s WPIAL Championship set to begin on Tuesday at Bethel Park.
