Softball Sees Sunshine and Success
The North Allegheny Varsity Softball Team traveled to Kissimmee, Florida, to compete at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, March 31- April 2, and returned home on Sunday with three victories and no losses against teams from Wisconsin, Illinois, and New Jersey. The team was also able to enjoy each other’s company in ventures to the Disney Theme Parks during non-playing times.
In Game One, North Allegheny defeated Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, 8-1. Game Two saw the Tigers prevail over Saint Ignatius College Prep, Illinois, 10-4. In the third of three regulation games, NA took down a very strong Ewing High School, New Jersey, 7-1.
Throughout the competitions, the Tigers combined solid pitching, tight defense, and timely hitting to come home with the perfect 3-0 record. Senior Madi Beining picked up all three victories, but NA also benefited from five innings of good pitching from freshman Brooke Serbin as the games unfolded. North Allegheny also provided a balanced offensive attack, paced by senior catcher Liz Scherer, who collected five hits, including two doubles and a home run as well as six runs scored. Other Tiger extra-base hits came from Beining (3), freshman shortstop Rachel Martindale, senior second baseman / designated player Laura Ryder (2), and junior catcher Jacqui Sieber. One additional offensive highlight came from sophomore left fielder Anna Pilotta, who produced a four-for-five performance in game two vs. St. Ignatius. The North Allegheny coaching staff would like to congratulate the entire varsity team for an excellent performance in all ways throughout the trip!
The Tigers return to the reality of Pittsburgh and Section 3 Quad-A play this week. Check the North Allegheny Athletic Website for the most up-to-date information.
