Tigers Bow Out of WPIAL Playoffs With Loss To Top-Seeded Blue Devils

North Allegheny’s trek in the WPIAL playoffs came to an end on Wednesday night against undefeated and top-seeded Mt. Lebanon with a 17-3 loss in the WPIAL Class 3A quarterfinals.

The WPIAL runners-up from a season ago, the Blue Devils raced to a 9-0 lead in the first half thanks in part to a four-goal performance from senior Addison Murdoch and a hat trick by senior Sarah Hudak.

The Tigers traded goals with the Blue Devils in the first seven minutes of the first half with two goals by sophomore Reagan Riordan, including her 50th of the season, and another by senior Isla Abrams. Junior Tessa McDowell added an assist.

With Mt. Lebanon leading 12-3 with 5:06 remaining in the third quarter, the game was halted for two hours because of a lightning delay. Once play resumed, the Blue Devils scored five unanswered goals to cap a 17-3 victory.

Senior goalie Izzie Trunzo made 10 saves against a high-octane Mt. Lebanon offense. Riordan and senior Mia Valentine each totaled a team-high four ground balls. Abrams also notched a team-best three caused turnovers.

The senior class of Abrams, Trunzo, Valentine, Maya Evans, Kelsea Apel and Dani Ruble was named the Wright Automotive Players of the Game.

North Allegheny’s season comes to an with an 8-9 overall record, while Mt. Lebanon advances to the WPIAL semifinals with a 17-0 mark. Congratulations to head coach Courtney Killian and the entire North Allegheny girls’ lacrosse team for an exciting and memorable season.
