Tigers compete at New Year’s Challenge

North Allegheny swimming & diving traveled to Bucknell University to participate in the New Year’s Challenge. Team scores were not kept for this meet but the Tigers performed well placing first in eight events.

In diving, Maggie Lapina claimed the girls’ portion of the contest with a score of 436.55. On the boys side, Ethan Maravich finished in first with a 483.20 and Anthony Farrah was the second place finisher at 461.40.

The North Allegheny boys claimed the 200-yard medley relay title as Danny Lesinski, Alex Harbaugh, Mason Shantz and Zachary Totin posted a 1:33.83. Lesinski won first place in the 200 free with a time of 1:44.34. Emmanuel Chu was the bronze medalist in the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.28. Totin finished runner-up in the 50 free at 21.14. Harbaugh finished third in 100 butterfly with a 52.11.

The NA Girls 200 free relay came in third place as the team of Claire Bacu, Eva Ogden, Evey Masztak and Madden Woycheck finished in 1:38.57. The NA boys claimed the 200 free relay title with Odin Hsu, Shantz, Harbaugh and Totin completing the relay in 1:26.53.

Bacu won gold in the 500 free on the girls side finishing in 4:57.44. Julia Tengowski was right behind in second with a time of 4:59.20. On the boys side, Jackson Ross was runner-up in 4:38.32. Lesinski won the 100 backstroke boys title swimming a 51.05. Tori Tieppo (1:05.84) took first in the 100 breaststroke while Shelby Sundgren (1:07.74) claimed third. On the boys side, Landon Bolen (59.34) was the third place finisher.

The girls 400 free relay team took the silver medal when Bacu, Woycheck, Dani Hinkson and Ogden finished in 3:32.30. The boys claimed first in the relay with Totin, Lesinski, Hsu and Dylan Seiford swimming it in 3:09.70.

The Tigers return to section play on Thursday when they host Moon at the NASH Pool at 5 p.m. This meet will be broadcast on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
