Tigers Drop Section Contest To Rival Rams

The North Allegheny softball team was upended by section rival Pine-Richland on Monday evening, 12-4. The Rams were powered by an 18-hit performance, including a pair of home runs in a six-run second inning.

In the pivotal second inning, Mackenzie Gillis hit a two-run homer to open the scoring and Delaney Jamison followed later in the inning with a three-run blast to right field for a 5-0 lead. Maddy Myers, who finished 3-for-5 with three doubles, added an RBI double for a 6-0 lead.

From that point on, the Rams controlled the game thanks to southpaw pitcher Mia Maiola, who limited the NA to four runs despite allowing 13 hits in a complete-game effort.  The Tigers had three runners thrown out on the base paths, including two at home plate, and left 10 runners on base.

Despite the loss, there were some bright spots on the evening. Sophomore pitcher Taylor Danley made her varsity debut with one inning of work in the seventh.  Sophomore Taylor Neese went 3-for-4 with a double and two singles, while senior Julia Drazga was 3-for-4 with a two-run double in the fifth inning and a run scored. For her efforts, Drazga was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.

North Allegheny falls to 8-5 overall in section play, while Pine-Richland improves to 8-7 overall and 7-5 in the section. The Tigers will visit Norwin on Wednesday for another section matchup.
