The North Allegheny girls’ lacrosse team came back from separate four-goal deficits to beat Shaler 12-11 for the first section win of the year from Newman Stadium Wednesday night.

The Titans had control of the opening half, scoring the first four goals of the contest courtesy of freshman Carissa Komora and three-straight markers from junior Kori Wilson. Tigers sophomore Gracie Lynch scored the first of three goals herself to break the goose egg on a free position with nine minutes left in the half. Sophomore Allie Cieslak and Wilson (free position) extended the Shaler lead to 6-1 before Lynch and senior Avery Anderson found twine in the middle stages of the second frame. Wilson scored her fifth of the game four minutes before halftime while Anderson scored her second of the day off a free position opportunity from sophomore Sarah Harlan. The Titans led 7-4 at the half.

Komora scored her second of the game in the opening stages in the second half. NA then scored four straight goals from senior Viola DelVecchio (player up), junior Reagan Riordan (player up), DelVecchio again on an extended offensive possession and Riordan again on the free position to tie the game at eight. Komora found her third of the contest on a free position play to give Shaler the 9-8 lead before the final period.

Shaler found two more goals to start the fourth quarter from Skylar Garforth and Wilson’s sixth of the game. North Allegheny stormed back, rattling off the final four goals of the game to take the lead for good. Lynch scored a hat trick with just over six minutes left, Riordan netted a hat trick, Sarah Harlan tied the game with 4:34 left and DelVecchio found the game-winner in the final three minutes on a hat trick goal.

The combination of junior Fiola Ragan and sophomore Ruby Rosenberg stood strong in net. Ragan made multiple big stops down the stretch to preserve the lead for NA and ended the game with five saves. Rosenberg had three saves in the second quarter.

DelVecchio earned Wright Automotive Player of the Game honors for her three-goal performance including the game-winner.

With the victory, NA improves to 1-2 on the season and 1-0 in section play. The Tigers are back in action Monday night on the road at Moon Area High School at 7:30 p.m.
