The North Allegheny field hockey team went toe-to-toe with the two-time reigning WPIAL champions on Tuesday night and dropped a narrow 3-1 decision at Pine-Richland in Section 1-AAA action.

Facing the undefeated Rams in Gibsonia, the Tigers stormed out of the gates and scored the game’s first goal on a tip-in by junior Mila Prusak with 7:05 to play in the first quarter for a 1-0 lead. Pine-Richland answered back late in the period when Fiona Kortyna scored, assisted by Mary Wymard, with just 0:43 left in the first to tie the score at 1-1.

The Rams earned 19 penalty corners in the contest and cashed in on one such opportunity with 11:10 to play in the second quarter courtesy of Laura Krill. PR led NA in corners by a 16-4 margin and outshot the Tigers, 19-10. The Krill goal was assisted by Rylie Wollerton.

Pine-Richland’s one-goal lead remained intact through most of the second half. North Allegheny junior goalie Jordan Ashbaugh held Pine-Richland at bay most of the night with 10 saves. Despite NA’s best efforts, the Tigers couldn’t find the equalizer in the remaining minutes. The Rams finally put away the feisty Tigers when Wollerton scored on a reverse chip with 1:30 left in regulation to close out a 3-1 win.

The outcome snaps a four-game winning streak for North Allegheny and drops to the Tigers record to 6-5 overall and 4-2 in Section 1-AAA. Pine-Richland remains undefeated in section play with a 6-0 mark.
