For the second time this season, North Allegheny took on the Panthers of Franklin Regional. While the first match saw a close 3-2 victory for the home team, this time around, the Tigers left no doubt by winning 5-0 in the WPIAL Quarterfinals on Wednesday afternoon at the North Allegheny High School courts.

Sophomore sensation Advaita Sircar opened the scoring for the top-seeded Tigers by throttling Collin Stalnaker at 1st singles, 6-1, 6-0. The 2nd doubles tandem of sophomores Shivum Telang and Ronit Ginde doubled the lead to 2-0 by annihilating their Panther opponents, 6-1, 6-0. The clinching point came off the strings of senior star Sri Thirumala who has found his niche at 3rd singles, also winning 6-1, 6-0.

At this point, the only question left was if a sweep was in order. The all-captain 1st doubles team of senior Nick Scheuring and junior Adhav Ramadas did their part. After getting off to a strong start, the pair had to battle a second set lull to prevail, 6-1, 7-6 (2). All eyes turned to 2nd singles where junior Evan Kaufman got off to a slow start in dropping the first set, 6-7 (3). The veteran came roaring back to win the second set 6-2, which set up a decisive match tiebreaker. Here the “Man of the Match” was decided as Kaufman took the breaker and the match 10-7 while keeping the shutout in order.

The Tigers have once again advanced to the WPIAL Semifinals where they will take on perennial powerhouse and fourth-seeded Upper St. Clair for the second time in as many weeks. Date, time and location are all still to be determined.
