Tigers Slay Dragons For Section Win

The North Allegheny girls’ lacrosse team jumped back into the win column on Monday night with a 20-1 victory over the Allderdice Dragons at Newman Stadium.

The Tigers stormed out of the gates in the opening half with three goals in the first 52 seconds of the game, including a marker by senior Leigh Failla just 12 seconds in, en route to a 16-0 halftime lead. The Tigers called off the dogs in the second half and coasted to the section win. Sophomore Avery Anderson helped ignite the NA attack with four first-half goals on her way to a five-goal performance. For her efforts, Anderson was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game. Anderson now has 12 on the season.

Overall, the Tigers scored a bushel of goals as nine different players touched the scoresheet.  Senior Mila Prusak netted a hat trick, giving her a team-leading 20 on the season. Scoring two goals each for the Tigers was Failla, sophomore Maddie Lemmon, freshman Keely McMahon-Regan, senior Laurel Donley, senior Charlotte Schreiber. Senior Becka Oates and junior Isla Abrams tallied one goal apiece.

In addition to her two goals, Failla dominated on faceoffs and won 15 of 17 draws taken, earned nine draw controls and dished out two assists. Junior goalie Izzie Trunzo posted four saves to earn the victory.

Lily Levkulich scored the lone goal for the Dragons with 16:25 left in the second half.

With the win, North Allegheny improves to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in Section 1-AAA, while Allderdice remains winless with an 0-5 record. The Tigers look to carry momentum into their next game against the reigning WPIAL champions, Shady Side Academy, on Wednesday night. The home contest begins at 6:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
