Tigers Storm Past Golden Tornado, 15-3

The North Allegheny girls’ lacrosse team won its first game of the season in convincing fashion with a 15-3 blowout of Butler on Tuesday night at Newman Stadium.

Sophomore Reagan Riordan jump started the evening with a goal just 11 seconds into the game for an immediate 1-0 lead and the rout was on. Senior Isla Abrams scored with 1:51 remaining in the first period to grow the NA lead to 2-0.

As the night wore on, the Tigers attack became even more potent, scoring four times in the second period and six times in the third quarter before calling off the dogs with three goals in the final stanza.

Sophomore Reagan Riordan helped spark a big night for the NA attack.

In all, three players tallied a hat trick or better. Abrams and junior Avery Anderson notched four goals each. Riordan netted three goals and was a spark plug for the Tigers throughout the night with three draw controls and two caused turnovers earning Wright Automotive Player of the Game honors.

Additional goals were scored by juniors Tessa McDowell, Madelyn Lemmon, Sara Donaldson and freshman Gracie Lynch. Along with her four goals, Abrams corralled five ground balls, caused three turnovers, dished out two assists and won 16 of 20 draws.

Additional contributions were provided by senior Mia Valentine and junior Viola Del Vecchio with five and four ground balls, respectively. Senior goalie Izzie Trunzo made six saves to earn the win and needed to make only save in the entire second half.

Scoring goals for an injury-riddle Butler team was senior Ava Best, and freshmen Izzy Skal and Brooke Streyer.

With the win, North Allegheny improves to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in Section 2-AAA. Butler slips to 2-6 overall and 0-4 in the section. The Tigers look to build on their victory with a visit to Allderdice on Thursday afternoon.
