Playing on back-to-back nights against the two-time defending WPIAL Class A champions might not have been the easiest assignment for North Allegheny, and the Tigers handled it well for the most part, but the Bulldogs took advantage of a couple of penalties to score goals that led to a 4-3 overtime win at Newman Stadium.

North Allegheny built a 2-0 halftime lead. Addison Burns scored her 10th goal of the season off an Emi Barreiro insert on a penalty corner in the first quarter for a 1-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Barreiro sent a pass into the circle that Davia Gross converted for her 6th goal of the year for a 2-0 Tigers lead. Gross scored goals on back-to-back nights and has tallied three times in the past four games.

The pace of play picked up in the third quarter when the teams combined for three goals.

Coco Maxwell got Shady Side Academy on the board when she deflected a pass from the left wing over top of Alaina Roth to bring the Bulldogs within a goal.

But North Allegheny answered quickly, as Gia Gross got her second goal on consecutive nights as her shot rolled into the net for her 5th goal of the season and a 3-1 North Allegheny lead.

Shady Side Academy came right back when Kate Benec converted a penalty corner to make it a one-goal game heading into the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs got an opportunity on a penalty stroke, which Maxwell converted with 6:00 remaining to tie the game 3-3.

Shady Side Academy received a couple of late cards and were down two players, and Benec got free shorthanded but was stoned by Roth and the game headed to overtime.

The Bulldogs were again awarded another penalty stroke in the extra session, which Maxwell converted for a hat trick at 4:30 of overtime to give Shady Side Academy a 4-3 non-section overtime win.

Senior Emi Barreiro with two unofficial assists and several solid defensive plays, was named as the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.

North Allegheny drops to (5-6-3) with the heartbreaking defeat. The Tigers will have a week off before hosting Mt. Lebanon in a crucial 1-AAA section contest next Wednesday night. That game will be the annual Pink Out game for Breast Cancer Awareness and will be carried on the North Allegheny Sports Network if you cannot make it in person.
