The North Allegheny softball team cruised to an 8-2 section home win over Norwin Monday night.

Senior Sammy Plotsko set the pace from the circle, pitching a complete game while recording five strikeouts and only letting up two runs.

Plotsko also got the offense rolling in the bottom of the first with a solo homer off the top of the right-field fence. She finished the day at the plate 2-4 with the home run, a single in the fourth inning and two RBIs.  For her efforts, she was named Wright Automotive Player of the Game.

North Allegheny struck for two more runs in the third inning following a single from senior McKenna Rowlands while sophomore Twila Goulding reached on an error. Those baserunners were batted in by Plotsko and junior Erin Fadgen, respectively.

NA added a fourth run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Freshman Alison Friend reached on a single and later scored on an error.

Norwin broke the goose egg in the fifth inning on a solo home run by junior Abbie Telli. The Tigers responded in the bottom of the frame with four more runs following a double by sophomore Zoe Rychel, a walk by sophomore Leah Carlson, a single by sophomore Taylor Condiotte and Friend reaching on a fielder’s choice. Rowlands batted in two of the runs on a single later in the inning.

With the win, North Allegheny improves to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in section play. The Tigers are back in action at home Thursday against Pine-Richland for another section clash. First pitch is slated for 4:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
