Tigers take down Foxes

A rematch of last year’s WPIAL semifinal saw North Allegheny take down Fox Chapel by an identical score of 3-2. Opening the scoring for the Tigers was once again sophomore Advaita Sircar who took care of business at 1st singles in less than 30 minutes, dispatching his opponent 6-0, 6-0. The tide quickly shifted though as the Foxes rattled off wins at 2nd and 3rd singles to take a 2-1 lead. Sophomore Dylan Pak put up a brave fight at 2nd singles, but lost 6-4, 6-0. Meanwhile, Nick Haller battled hard at 3rd singles, only to fall 6-1, 6-2.
The attention then shifted to the doubles matches where both NA teams opened up early leads. The Foxes fought back to tie both matches early. The all-captain team of junior Adhav Ramadas and senior Nick Scheuring relied on their experience to validate the trust the coaching staff has placed in them. After securing the first set 6-3, the pair cruised to a 6-1 second set win to tie the score for the Tigers at two matches apiece.
The entire match was hanging in the balance for the 2nd doubles team of senior Sri Thirumala and junior Anish Ramachandruni. These are the types of situations where Man of the Match honors are earned, and this tandem came through in glorious fashion. After a close 7-5 first set that saw the teams trade break after break, the Tigers took control and exerted their will in the second set to vanquish the Foxes, 6-1.
North Allegheny improves to 3-1 overall. The Tigers can now rest a bit after a busy first week that saw them play four matches in four days. Next up, NA hosts section rival Pine-Richland on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
