BUTLER SCORES LATE GOAL TO EDGE LADY TIGERS, 2-1
The Lady Tigers lost a heartbreaker to Butler in the closing minutes of
regulation when Annie Lawry scored to break a 1-1 tie. Jen Kienzi
scored to give Butler a 1-0 advantage in the early minutes of the
game. The Lady Tigers came right back to tie the score on a
right-footed shot by lefty junior Lauren Sarnowski from about 18 yards
out. Junior Jessie Eckert had broken free toward the Tornado goal
and set up Sarnowski for the equalizer. The
Lady Tigers played their strongest soccer of the year in the remainder of
the half, and the teams went to the intermission tied at 1-1.
The Lady Tiger defense
once again played well, led by the stellar performance of junior
goalkeeper Leann Kania, who made several diving saves. The loss was
the first for NA in section play, dropping the record to 3-1. The
overall record fell to 5-3 for the season.
JV UPDATE: The JV
came roaring back from a 2-0 deficit to tie it up late in the game, and
even had some last minute chances to win. Jackie Givens got things
going with a nifty breakaway slid past the keeper with her left foot
started with a long lead pass from Kellie Cope. Kelly Langhans
scored the equalizer 35 yards out from the right side on a long, high
blast to the far post, assisted by Emily Guzzetti's drop pass.

LADY TIGERS WIN FOURTH IN A ROW
Coach Chet Gapczynski's Lady Tigers defeated Shaler, 2-0, on Saturday
night at Newman Stadium for their fourth consecutive win. After a
scoreless first half, junior Stephanie Maloney broke the tie with a volley
off a nice corner kick by junior Laura Steidel. Late in the game,
sophomore Mollie Rosenzweig got free down the wing and blasted a shot past
the keeper. Freshman Leigh Cullen, just called up to the varsity, set up
the ball with a beautiful pass served between two defenders into the open
space.
Once again, the defense played well for the Lady Tigers. Steidel, junior
Lisa Sarnowski, junior Kelly Connelly, senior Kristen Martin, junior Amy
Toler, and senior Margot Feingold all contributed to the shutout by junior
keeper Leann Kania.
With the victory, NA moved into first place in Section 2. The victory
improved the NA record to 3-0 in section play and 5-2 overall. Tonight,
the Lady Tigers will travel to Butler for an important section contest.
Game time is set for 7:30 pm.
JV Update: The JV broke a 1-1 tie in the second half to win, 3-1. Goals
were scored by Jackie Givens, Kellie Cope, and Alllie Bysse. Assists went
to Emily Rosezweig, and Givens, who drew the keeper out of the net to slot
the game winner to Cope.

DUBOIS SCORES TWICE TO LEAD LADY TIGERS OVER BLACKHAWK, 5-0
Junior Mary Dubois scored a pair of goals to pace the Lady Tigers to a 5-0
victory over the Blackhawk Cougars at Newman Stadium on Wednesday night.
Freshman Jordan Gapczynski, sophomore Mollie Rosenzweig, and junior Jessie
Eckert all scored for NA.
Dubois opened the scoring when she put in her own rebound to make it 1-0
for the Lady Tigers. Senior Kristin Martin set up Gapczynski on a
breakaway for the second goal. The NA freshman was able to slide the ball
under the Blackhawk keeper and it was a 2-0 lead. The third goal came
from Eckert when she one-timed a "sweet cross" from junior Stephanie
Maloney. The Lady Tigers took a 3-0 lead to the intermission.
In the second half, junior Lisa Sarnowski set up Dubois for her second
goal as she broke free behind the Cougar defense to make it a 4-0 NA
advantage. Sophomore Mollie Rosenzweig finished the scoring on a "nice
serve" by junior Amy Toler, and the Lady Tigers completed a 5-0 victory.
The JV team did not have a game, but all varsity players took part in the
action, along with several JV players. The win improves the Lady Tigers'
section record to 2-0 and their overall mark to 4-2 on the season. NA
will be back in action again tomorrow when they host the Shaler Area
Titans in a section contest. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm at Newman
Stadium.

LADY TIGERS UPSET SENECA VALLEY, 2-1
Senior Ashley Hughes scored with five minutes remaining to give the Lady
Tigers a 2-1 victory over #9 Seneca Valley at Newman Stadium on Monday
evening. Junior Stephanie Maloney gave NA a 1-0 lead in the first half.
After Seneca tied the score, Hughes scored on a perfect shot on an assist
from junior Tracy Patsilevas.
NA continued to play great defense backing up the excellent play in goal
by junior Leann Kania. Strong defensivie performances by senior Kristen
Martin and juniors Kelly Connelly, Lisa Sarnowski, Laura Steidel, and Amy
Toler held SV to just one goal in the Tiger victory.
The win gave the Lady Tigers a 1-0 record in section play, 3-2 mark
overall. Tonight, NA will host the Blackhawk Cougars. Since Blackhawk
does not have a JV team, the game will begin at 7:00 pm at Newman Stadium.
On Saturday, Shaler will visit Newman Stadium for a 7:30 pm section
contest.
JV Update/Coming off a weekend tournament with 6-1 and 4-0 wins, the
girls' JV soccer team lost a tough 2-1 decision to Seneca Valley on Monday
evening. Emily Guzzetti scored the Tiger goal assisted by Shannon Fusina.

LADY TIGERS WIN, LOSE AT CENTRAL MOUNTAIN INVITATIONAL
Coach Chet Gapczynski's Lady Tigers edged Altoona, 4-3, in the second game
of the Central Mountain Invitational on Saturday morning at McGill
Memorial Field in Mill Hall. The win evened the NA record at 2-2 on the
season. In other action, Erie McDowell beat host Central Mountain, 1-0,
in overtime while State College shut out Upper St. Clair, 2-0.
The Lady Tigers were defeated by State College, 1-0, in the first game of
the round robin tournament. NA continues to play good defense this
season, but it was not enough to defeat the Little Lions. In other action
on Friday, Erie McDowell downed Upper St. Clair, 2-1, and Central Mountain
pounded Altoona, 6-0.

HUGHES GOAL BEATS SCHENLEY, 1-0
To listen to a replay of the game, click here!
Senior defender Ashley Hughes scored the only goal of the game midway
through the first half, and the Lady Tiger defense made it stand up for a
1-0 victory over City League Champion Schenley at Newman Stadium on
Wednesday night. NA was able to shut down the Schenley attack with close
marking and pressure all over the field as junior GK Leann Kania earned
the shutout.
Neither team was able to mount much of an offensive attack in the early
going as the defenses took control of the game. NA had a chance at the
10:00 minute mark, but sophomore forward Jordan Gapczynski's shot went
wide. The Lady Tigers kept the ball in the Spartans' end for much of the
time, and it paid off. Hughes was able to steal a clearing pass just
outside the penalty area to the right of Schenley keeper Janelle Porter.
The Tiger defender was able to get off a perfectly placed shot that beat
Porter just inside the right post, and NA had a 1-0 lead with 24:03
remaining in the half.
Schenley came back after the goal to pressure the Lady Tigers for much of
the remaining time in the half. NA did a good job of stopping the
Spartans' leading scorer, Marisha Schumaker-Hodge, but the junior striker
did have a chance at the 20:00 mark but her shot went wide.
Schumarker-Hodge scored 31 goals as a sophomore for Schenley, but the NA
defense always had at least two players around the talented striker. The
Spartans came close to tying the game at the 16:40 mark. Kania made a
good save on a shot by senior forward Debbie Painter, but the rebound came
out in front of the NA goal. Senior MF Kim Steimer had a golden
opportunity for the equalizer, but her shot went wide.
The Lady Tigers had several chances to increase the lead. With 2:30 left,
junior MF Lauren Sarnowski intercepted a Spartan pass, but her shot was
blocked in front of the goal. With just 1:20 remaining, junior midfielder
Stephanie Maloney attempted a long shot from 30 yards away, but her shot
went just wide. The Tiger defense took over from there, and the teams
went to the intermission with NA holding the 1-0 advantage.
In the second half, the Lady Tigers dominated play. Keeping the ball in
Spartan territory for most of the half, they were able to hold Schenley to
just a few chances. Early in the half, however, the Spartans sprung
Painter loose on a breakaway. Kania came out to challenge Painter, and
her shot just missed the right corner. The NA pressure resulted in
several chances. With a 32:40 remaining, Gapczynski had an opportunity on
a corner kick, but her header went wide.
It was a good win for the Lady Tigers as they defeated a quality opponent.
It was the overall NA defense and pressure that kept the Spartans off the
board throughout the evening. The North Allegheny Sports Network selected
Ashley Hughes as the Player of the Game for her defensive efforts, along
with scoring the game winner. The win evened the NA record to 1-1 in the
early season. The Tiger will travel to central Pennsylvania for a pair of
games over the weekend. NA will play in the Central Mountain Invitational
on Friday and Saturday. The Tiger varsity will play at 5:30 pm on Friday
and 10:00 am on Saturday. The Lady Tigers will open section play on
Monday when they travel to Seneca Valley to meet the Raiders in a 7:30 pm
contest.
