Morse's win sends NA to the WPIAL Team Championship to be held this morning at Duck Hollow Golf Club in Uniontown. Morse hit a 6 iron on his first shot on the par three, 175-yard 17th hole at Pheasant Run. It went 40 yards over the green. Brumberg hit pin high to the right of the green. The Pine-Richland senior chipped onto the green, but Morse chipped up to within three feet. After Brumberg's putt rimmed out, Morse was able to convert the putt to win the hole. It was a clutch performance by the NA junior. The Tigers will face tough competition in today's final that features Franklin Regional, Peters Township, Upper St. Clair and NA. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * WPIAL BOYS GOLF - 2003 The Tigers will compete again in Division I, along with 60 other teams this year. The top two teams and ties for second place in each section will enter the team championship semi-finals on October 14, 2003. If two teams tie for second place but one of the teams has lost both head to head contests, that team will not enter the tournament round. Three way ties will be broken in the following manner: 1. Section records of the
tied teams will be compiled. The format for boys' golf is a team comprised of six golfers who play for a combined team total medal score for the day. Only the top five scores will count to determine the team winner for the match. This format is in effect for all team matches. In case of a tie in total medal score, the medalists for both teams will play "sudden death" extra holes. If there are co-medalists on either team, the coach will select one of them to compete in the tie-breaker. INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS The WPIAL individual championships will begin with a sectional qualifying tournament comprised of five players from each section team. Each section qualifier will be hosted at one of the section courses. The 2003 section qualifiers have been scheduled for Monday, September 22, 2003. The top ten players from each sectional tournament will advance to the semi-final round. The semi-final round will consist of one hundred sixty contestants - ten qualifiers from each of the sixteen sectional tournaments. The semi-final round will be conducted on Monday, September 29, 2003, at four different courses. Forty contestants, ten per section, will be assigned to each semi-final site. The individual final round will consist of forty contestants - the top ten from each semi-final round site. The final round will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2003, at a course to be designated. The top sixteen contestants from the WPIAL final round will qualify for the PIAA championship tournament to be held at Heritage Hill Golf Course (York, PA) on October 20-21, 2003.
