2003 MATCH SUMMARIES

LADY TIGERS CONTINUE UNBEATEN STREAK WITH 5-0 VICTORY OVER HAMPTON

Coach Jim Sloan's Lady Tigers won their sixth straight match, fourth in 
section play, as they defeated the Hampton Talbots, 5-0, at the Senior 
High courts on Monday afternoon. NA did not lose a set in posting the 
victory.Once again, senior Kim Whelan was perfect at #1 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lauren Devos. Sophomore Sabrina Smyers won at #2 singles while junior Christie D'Achille lost only two games on her way to a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Sara Longo.
In doubles play, sophomore Anne Elise Wilson and junior Kristin Ambrosino won in two sets at #1 doubles. At the number two doubles spot, senior Anne Clough and junior Lauren Rosenbeck downed Noreen Sherred and Beth Blumer, 6-2 and 6-1.

LADY TIGERS SWEEP SENECA, 5-0

The rain finally stopped falling long enough on Friday to allow the Lady 
Tigers to defeat Seneca Valley, 5-0, at the Senior High courts. Tiger 
senior Kim Whelan set the pace with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Kelly Stenger 
at #1 singles. Sophomore Sabrina Smyers and junior Christie D'Achille 
followed with straight set wins in the other singles matches.

In doubles competition, it was more of the same as the Lady Tigers 
dominated. In the #1 doubles match, sophomore Anne Elise Wilson and 
junior Kristin Ambrosino teamed up again and defeated Brittany Johnson and Sarah Dobson, 6-4 and 6-2. Senior Annie Clough and junior Lauren 
Rosenbeck were victorious in two straight sets. The victory was the fifth 
straight, third in section, for the undefeated Lady Tigers.

RAIN CONTINUES TO FOLLOW LADY TIGERS

As the Lady Tiger tennis team arrived at Butler on Thursday afternoon, so did the rain! According to Coach Jim Sloan, a "monsoon" wiped out yesterday's match, the third straight match cancelled by the weather. 

With a good forecast for today, the Lady Tigers look forward to getting 
back to the court when they host the Seneca Valley Raiders at the Senior High courts in the makeup of Tuesday's rained out match.

RAIN STOPS LADY TIGERS AGAIN

For the second straight day, rain did what no team has been able to do so far this season --- stop the Lady Tigers! Wednesday afternoon's match was cancelled. Tuesday's section match with Seneca Valley has been rescheduled for Friday afternoon at the Senior High courts at 3:30 pm.

The Lady Tigers will travel to Butler this afternoon for an important 
match against the Golden Tornado. Match time at the Butler courts is set for 3:30 pm.

LADY TIGERS STAY UNBEATEN WITH SHUTOUT OF SHALER

Coach Jim Sloan's Lady Tigers defeated Shaler, 5-0, on Thursday afternoon to win win their fourth straight match, third in section play. Led by senior Kim Whelan, NA dominated play, winning 18 of 19 singles' matches in posting the victory. Whelan knocked off Nina Trexler in two sets, 6-0 and 6-0, with sophomore Sabrina Smyers and junior Christie D'Achille also winning in straight sets.

The NA doubles teams continued to play well. Sophomore Anne Elise Wilson teamed up with junior Kristin Ambrosino to down Kristin Barton and Erin Dedig, 6-0 and 6-2, while junior Lauren Rosenbeck and Molly Moynihan were victorious at #2 doubles with a two-set victory.

LADY TIGERS WIN THREE STRAIGHT TO OPEN THE SEASON

Coach Jim Sloan's Lady Tigers extended their winning streak to three with a 5-0 non-section victory over Fox Chapel on Wednesday afternoon at the Senior High courts. NA had defeated the Pine Richland Rams, 4-1, on Tuesday afternoon at the Senior High courts in the Section 2 opener. In the season opener, the Lady Tigers defeated Franklin Regional, 5-0, in a non-section match on Monday.

Leading the way for NA this season is senior Kim Whelan. Last season, 
Whelan was the section singles champion and the PIAA runnerup as a junior. The second singles position is held by sophomore Sabrina Smyers with junior Christie D'Achille playing at #3 singles. Smyers and D'Achille teamed up to win the section doubles title last season. In doubles play, sophomore Anne Elise Wilson and junior Kristin Ambrosino are the number one team, with senior Annie Clough and junior Lauren Rosenbeck playing at the #2 doubles position.
