LADY TIGERS FINISH SEVENTH IN PIAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Lady Tigers finished in 7th place at the PIAA Class AAA Championships at Hersheypark Stadium White Field on Saturday.  Junior Kelley O'Brien was the top NA runner as she came in 27th (15th in team scoring).  Unionville won the girls' title with 86 points to NA's 259.

In the boys' competition, the Tigers finished in 19th place with junior Max Brown coming in 42nd in team scoring.  Cedar Cliff won the title with a score of 95 points.

LADY TIGERS WIN WPIAL TITLE; BOYS TAKE THIRD

Led by junior Kelley O'Brien's seventh place finish, Coach Jim LeDonne's Lady Tigers won their seventh WPIAL title in eight years at Slippery Rock University on Thursday afternoon.  NA scored 144 points to second place Oakland Catholic's 193.  Mt. Lebanon was third.  Junior Michelle Diez was 24th and freshman Jackie Sokulski was 28th for the winning Lady Tigers.

The Tigers boys' team was the third place finisher led by  junior Max Brown who came in fifth.  Junior John Boujoukos was second for NA, finishing in 17th place, while freshman Pat Morgan came in 43rd.  The Tigers compiled 178 points while North Hills was first with 63 and Central Catholic second with 73.

Both Tiger teams have qualified for the PIAA Championships to be held next Saturday, November 6, to be held at White Field, Hersheypark Stadium, in Hershey.

TIGERS TAKE WPIAL JV TITLE; LADY TIGERS FINISH SECOND

The Tigers boys' team dominated the WPIAL JV championships held on Monday afternoon as they scored 15 points to second place Central Catholic's 94 points.  NA took the first six top places and ten out of the top twenty.  Top twenty runners earned medals.

The girls' team captured second place, scoring 34 points to first place Mt. Lebanon's 25 points.  Eight NA girls earned Top 20 medals.  Twelve boys' teams and 10 girls' teams participated.

LADY TIGERS WIN TRI-STATE COACHES MEET; BOYS FINISH THIRD

In a preview of the upcoming WPIAL championships next week, the Lady Tigers took first place at the Tri-State Coaches Association Championships at Slippery Rock University on Thursday afternoon.  Junior Kelley O'Brien came in 7th to pace the Lady Tigers with junior Michelle Diez posting a 16th place finish.  NA scored 123 points to second-place Mt. Lebanon's 141 with Baldwin third at 170.

In the boys' meet, the Tigers finished third behind junior Max Brown's strong fourth place.  Junior John Boujoukos was 18th as NA tallied 147 points to finish behind North Hills (104) and Central Catholic (125).

The Tiger teams will go for the WPIAL championship next Thursday at Slippery Rock.  The Lady Tigers are the defending WPIAL champions.

TIGER TEAMS WIN TWO TO CAPTURE SECTION CROWNS

Coach Jim LeDonne's girls' and boys' cross country teams defeated Shaler and Butler at Butler on Tuesday afternoon to win the section championships.  Both teams finished undefeated in section competition with records of 7-0.  The boys downed Butler, 22-29, and Shaler, 18-45, while the Lady Tigers coasted to a 15-50 shutout win over Butler and a 15-47 victory over Shaler.

For the Lady Tigers, it was junior Kelley O'Brien leading the way with a first place finish with juniors Michele Diez and Sarah LeDonne coming in third and fourth.  NA took the first five spots in the race.  On the boys' side, junior Max Brown was first with junior John Boujoukos third and freshman Patrick Morgan sixth.

The Tigers will wrap up the dual meet season with a Senior Night meet on Friday against Fox Chapel.  Meet time is scheduled for 3:30 pm at the Intermediate High School course.

TIGERS END NORTH HILLS WINNING STREAK AT 33

The boys' cross country team defeated the North Hills Indians, 26-31, at the NAI course on Tuesday afternoon to end the North Hills dual meet winning streak at 33.  The Indians had not lost since 2000.  The boys' also downed Seneca Valley, 15-50.  The Lady Tigers won twice also defeating North Hills, 15-46, and Seneca Valley, 15-50.

Leading the boys' team to the victory that put them in first place in section were juniors Max Brown with a 2nd place finish and John Boujoukos with a 4th.  For the Lady Tigers, NA finished in the first five spots with juniors Kelley O'Brien (1st) and Michelle Diez (2nd) setting the pace.

Both NA teams improved their records to 5-0 in section with only one meet remaining.  The Tiger teams will travel to Butler next Tuesday for the final section match against Butler and Shaler.  The starting time is scheduled for 3:30 pm at Butler.

LADY TIGERS TAKE CENTRAL INVITATIONAL; BOYS FINISH FOURTH

Led by junior Kelley O'Brien's fourth place finish, the Lady Tigers captured first in the Central Catholic Invitational at Schenley Park on Saturday.  Junior Sarah LeDonne was 12th, while junior Michelle Diez came in 15th, and senior Lindsay Schmiedel 18th for the winning NA team.  Baldwin was the closest competitor to the Lady Tigers with Mt. Lebanon third and Latrobe fourth.

In the boys' race, junior Max Brown gave North Hills' Josh Eddy tough competition down the stretch but came in a close second.  Freshman Pat Morgan finished 18th as the Tiger team was fourth in the team competition.  Central Catholic was the team champion with Greensburgh Central Catholic second and North Hills third.

The Tiger teams will be back in action again on Tuesday when NA hosts North Hills and Seneca Valley in a tri-meet.  The starting time is set for 3:30 pm at the NAI course.

JV/FRESHMAN NOTES: The boys' JV was first and the girls' squad second in team competition..  For the boys, Collin Burry was first, Matt Savory 2nd, and Jeremy Honhold 4th as NA downed second-place Mt. Lebanon, 30-67.  In the girls' race, Karen Baxter was second and Merit O'Hare was fourth as Mt. Lebanon edged NA.  The freshman boys' were the team champions, scoring 24 points to second place Mt. Lebanon's 67.  Matt Jacob was 1st, Jackson Kernion 2nd, Justin Taylor 8th, and Joe Schilleci 10th for the winning Tiger team.

GIRLS CAPTURE 2ND, BOYS 8TH, AT CARLISLE INVITATIONAL

The Lady Tigers took second place at the prestigious Carlisle Invitational on Saturday morning at Carlisle High School.  Junior Kelley O'Brien led the way finishing in 12th place in the team points competition.  Junior Michelle Diez was the second NA runner coming in 16th.  Parkland won the competition with 85 points with NA tallying 111.  The Lady Tigers were the only western Pennsylvania team in the top fifteen.

In the boys' race, junior Max Brown paced the Tigers to an 8th place team standing by finishing in 5th place in the team points competition.  Junior John Boujoukos was second for NA with a 34th team point placing.  Cedar Cliff won the meet with Central Catholic finishing in 6th as the only western Pennsylvania team ahead of the Tigers.

The Tiger teams will be in action again on Saturday when they compete in the Central Catholic Invitational.  Meet time is scheduled for 8:30 am.

Both the boys' and girls' cross country teams improved their records to 3-0 in section competition with double victories over Pine-Richland and Hampton at Pine-Richland on Tuesday afternoon.  The boys' squad downed Pine-Richland, 20-41, and Hampton, 23-39.  The Lady Tigers shut out the Rams, 15-50, and downed the Talbots, 17-44.

Junior Kelley O'Brien led the way for the Lady Tigers with a first place finish overall.  Junior Michelle Diez was second overall for NA.  In the boys' meet, junior Max Brown captured first overall with junior John Boujoukos coming in third.

The Tiger teams will compete in the Carlisle Invitational this weekend.  Meet time is scheduled for 10:00 am.

TIGER TEAMS DEFEAT KNOCH IN SECTION OPENERS

Both Tiger teams won easy victories over the Knoch Knights at the Intermediate High School on Tuesday afternoon.  Junior Kelley O'Brien led the Lady Tigers to a  shut out victory, 15-50, while junior Max Brown paced the boys' team to a 16-47 win in the section opener.  O'Brien was named the Tribune Review "Female Athlete of the Week" for her first place finish in the Red, White and Blue Classic last weekend.

Junior Michelle Diez was second and senior Lindsay Schmiedel finished third as the Lady Tigers began defense of the section championship.  On the boys' side, junior John Boujoukos came in second for NA while senior Grant Butson was third.  The boys' team finished second last year.

The Tiger teams will be back in action again on Saturday morning at the Slippery Rock Invitational.  Meet time is scheduled for 8:30 am.

LADY TIGERS TAKE FIRST IN RED, WHITE AND BLUE CLASSIC; BOYS FINISH IN THIRD PLACE

Led by junior Kelley O'Brien who finished first, the Lady Tigers easily won the Red, White and Blue Classic at Schenley Park on Saturday morning.  Junior Michelle Diez came in third, sixteen seconds behind O'Brien's winning time.  Senior Lindsay Schmiedel finished in 12th place as the Lady Tigers repeated as champions.  NA scored 67 points to 178 for second place Mt. Lebanon and 180 for third place North Hills.

Junior Max Brown's second place result led the boys' team to third place in the team competition.  Brown was just 13 seconds behind Josh Eddy of North Hills who won the race.  Coming in 8th place was junior John Boujoukis to add valuable team points to NA.  Pat Morgan was 16th as the Tigers once again took the third place trophy.  NA totaled 111 points to come in behind North Hills with 82 and Central Catholic with 100.

The cross country teams will open the section season on Tuesday when they host the Knoch Knights at the Intermediate High School.  Last year, the Lady Tigers were section champions while the boys were second.  Meet time on Tuesday is scheduled for 3:30 pm.

WPIAL CROSS COUNTRY - 2004

The Tigers and Lady Tigers will compete once again in Class AAA against 47 other teams this year.  Section plaques will be awarded to the winner of each section based on the best section record.  Ties for first place will be declared co-champions and both will receive a plaque.

Scoring in the dual meets will be conventional.  The top seven finishers will be counted, with five of them scoring and two to displace.  The WPIAL cross-country individual and team champions will be determined at the WPIAL championship.

The WPIAL championship will be conducted at Slippery Rock University on Thursday, October 28, 2004.  The PIAA championships will be conducted on Saturday, November 6, 2004.
