NORTH ALLEGHENY VARSITY INLINE HOCKEY Photo Courtesy of Jim Lorish TIGERS TROUNCE BALDWIN, 9-2, TO REMAIN UNBEATEN The Tigers defeated Baldwin, 9-2, on Saturday night at the RMU-Island Sports Center to win their sixth consecutive game without a loss. Junior Mike Lorish had three goals and three assists to pace the Tiger victory. Seniors Craig Carioto and Evan Kirsch had two goals each as NA pounded the Highlanders. In the first period, Carioto got the Tigers off to a good start scoring on an assist from Lorish just 2:31 into the contest. Carioto made it 2-0 at the 7:53 mark with Lorish again earning the assist. Lorish pushed the lead to 3-0 with 4:25 remaining in the period as the Tigers took a three-goal advantage to the first intermission. Lorish opened the scoring in the second period on an assist from junior Chris Gilson to push the lead to 4-0. Kirsch scored an unassisted goal before Baldwin got on the board with a goal by Nick Posa at the 8:51 mark to make it a 5-1 NA lead. Goals by junior Chris Korenoski and Kirsch closed out the second period scoring as the Tigers led 7-1 after two periods. After Nick Hinsch tallied for Baldwin to cut the lead to 7-2, Lorish completed his hat trick with a goal at the 2:20 mark. Senior Brandon O'Connor knocked in the final NA goal with just 1:25 left as the Tigers went on to an impressive 9-2 victory. NA outshot Baldwin 37-13 on the evening. With the victory, the NA record improved to 6-0 and gave them a two-game lead over three second-place teams. The Tigers will meet Hampton on Saturday night in an 8:30 pm contest at the RMU-Island Sports Center. GAME SUMMARY

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS BLANK BETHEL PARK, 6-0, FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN The Tigers won their fifth straight game without a loss as they shut out the Bethel Park Blackhawks, 6-0, at the RMU-Island Sports Center on Sunday morning. Six different players scored for NA as they remained unbeaten in WPIRHL play. Sophomore Dan Gaertner posted four assists for the Tigers. The Tigers jumped off to a quick lead when junior Mitch Moulton scored his team leading eleventh goal of the season at the 11:05 mark to give NA a 1-0 lead. Junior Andrew Guntrum made it 2-0 on an assist from junior Chris Gilson with 8:31 remaining in the opening stanza. Gilson completed the scoring in the first period when he scored with 3:53 left as the Tigers took a 3-0 advantage to the first intermission. In the second period, the Tigers scored three times to put the game out of reach. Junior Mike Lorish scored an unassisted goal just 1:59 into the period to push the advantage to 4-0. Senior Brandon O'Connor made it 5-0 at the 5:43 mark while junior Chris Korenoski closed out the scoring on Gaertner's fourth assist as NA led 6-0 after two periods. Neither team was able to score in the third period as NA nailed down their fifth consecutive victory. Senior Tim Fitzgerald earned the shutout in goal for the Tigers, stopping all 16 Bethel Park shots. The Tigers posted 30 shots on the Blackhawk goal. With the win, the NA record improved to 5-0 in league play. The Tigers will be back in action again on Saturday night when they meet the Baldwin Highlanders. Game time is scheduled for 9:30 pm. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS BLAST BALDWIN, 8-1, FOR FOURTH STRAIGHT Four players scored two goals each as the Tigers defeated Baldwin, 8-1, at the RMU-Island Sports Center on Saturday night. Junior Mitch Moulton, junior Mike Lorish, senior Brandon O'Connor and senior Craig Carioto all scored twice to pace the Tigers. The win was the fourth straight for NA as the Tigers remained unbeaten. Moulton got the Tigers off and running when he scored 2:20 into the first period on an assist from sophomore Dan Gaertner. Lorish made it 2-0 just 3:08 later. O'Connor finished the scoring at the 1:47 mark to give the Tigers a 3-0 advantage as the teams went to the first intermission. The Tigers kept the pressure on the Highlanders early in the period and Lorish got his second goal just 25 seconds into the stanza. Carioto made it a 5-0 NA lead when he scored on an assist from Gaertner at the 10:42 mark. Neither team scored for the remainder of the period as the Tigers took a commanding 5-0 lead into the final period. Bryan Tomnay got Baldwin on the board at the 12:25 mark to cut the lead to 5-1. The Tigers were not finished, however, as they scored three more times. Moulton answered the Baldwin goal at the 9:26 mark, and O'Connor made it 7-1 with 6:50 remaining in the game. Carioto got the final tally of the game on an assist from Moulton with 4:47 remaining. The Tigers went on to an impressive 8-1 victory. The Tigers outshot Baldwin, 22-11. Senior Tim Fitzgerald stopped ten of the eleven shots to earn the victory in goal for NA. The Tigers will be back in action again on Saturday night when they meet the Shaler Titans. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS DROP SENECA VALLEY, 5-2 Led by senior Craig Carioto and junior Mitch Moulton who scored two goals each, the Tigers defeated Seneca Valley, 5-2, on Saturday night at the RMU-Island Sports Center. The Tigers dominated the game, outshooting the Raiders, 31-18. Carioto gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead with just 37 seconds left in the first period. In the second period, NA scored three times. Senior Brandon O'Connor made it 2-0 on an assist from sophomore Dan Gaertner at the 13:30 mark. Moulton scored to make it 3-0 on another Gaertner assist before Seneca Valley was able to get on the board. Matt Werth cut the lead to 3-1 with 3:35 left, but Moulton scored again with just 13 seconds remaining to push the NA advantage to 4-1 at the end of the second period. In the third period, Carioto's second goal increased the lead to 5-1 with 5:08 remaining in the period. The Raiders got a consolation goal when Roy Wagner picked up an unassisted goal with just 2:47 remaining. The Tigers held on to record a 5-2 victory. The win improved the Tiger record to 3-0 on the season. NA will be back in action again on Saturday when they face the Baldwin Highlanders. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS OPEN SEASON WITH TWO WINS The Tigers began play in the 2004-05 season by defeating Norwin, 12-2, and Allderdice, 7-4. A big seven-goal second period did in the Knights of Norwin as senior Craig Carioto scored four times while senior Brandon O'Connor and junior Mitch Moulton scored three goals each. The game was tied at 1-1 after one period with O'Connor scoring for the Tigers. After the second period explosion, the Tigers took an 8-2 lead into the final period. NA added four more goals as O'Connor, Moulson, senior Tyler Seaman and junior Mike Lorish completed the scoring as the Tigers earned an easy 12-2 victory. In the second game, the Tigers put the first four goals on the board in the first period before Allderdice came back to make it 4-2 after one period. Moulton scored an unassisted goal just 21 seconds into the game to get the Tigers off and running. Senior Evan Kirsch added a power play goal at the 11:09 mark, and sophomore Dan Gaertner scored just under two minutes later to extend the margin to 3-0. Carioto tallied a power play goal at the 3:37 mark to make it a 4-0 lead before Bel Walfish and Mark Fayer scored late goals for the Dragons to cut the lead to 4-2 after one period. In the second period, both teams scored twice. Lorish converted on a pass from O'Connor just 30 seconds in to make it a 5-2 game, but Adam Lyons and Josh Luxbacher scored for Allderdice to cut the lead to 5-4 at the 12:23 mark. Moulton extended the margin to 6-4 with a goal with 4:15 remaining in the period. The Tigers relied on good defense to hold the lead in the third period after picking up an insurance goal by Moulton at the 11:19 mark. The wins put the NA record at 2-0 in the early going. The Tigers will play Seneca Valley on Saturday night at the RMU-Island Sports Center in their next game. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 pm. GAME SUMMARIES

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * WPIRHL LEAGUE STANDINGS
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * North Allegheny is part of the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Roller Hockey League (WPIRHL) which to date had grown to over 75 teams from from 28 area high schools. North Allegheny has participated in this league as a club sport since 1999. Teams are made up from students in 6th thru 12th grades. The new league (WPIRHL) is being organized this year. In order for the league to grow, two additional rinks have been included, along with their respective school districts. The two rinks are Hot Shots in Mt. Pleasant and Born 2 Run in Grove City, both about 50 minutes to an hour away. In addition, a new committee has been formed to run the league this year. The interim board members are administrators from schools that are in a league now. The interim board
members are: All games are played at the RMU Island Sports Center. The games are played on an official sized rink, which is 185' x 85' with full dasher boards and is specifically designed for inline hockey. Thre are three 15-minute running time periods with no off sides or icing and it's played 4 on 4 plus a goalie.
