NORTH ALLEGHENY VARSITY BOYS' GOLF * WPIAL RUNNERUP * File Photo Courtesy of Coach Rittman MORSE TOP FINISHER FOR NA IN PIAA CHAMPIONSHIPS Senior Alex Morse shot a 76 on Tuesday in the second round of the PIAA championships at the Heritage Hills GC in York to finish in a tie for 27th place. Sophomore Michael Turner posted an 80 to place 44th and senior Will Corbett had an 84 to tie for 54th position. Seventy-two golfers from around the state competed for the title with senior Kyle Davis of Unionville capturing first place. Morse shot a 77 in the first round on Monday. Morse was eight strokes behind co-leaders Dan Obremski of Penn-Trafford and Jared Schmader of Maplewood. Turner posted a 78 and Corbett a 79 in the first round. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS CAPTURE SECOND PLACE IN WPIAL CHAMPIONSHIP The Tigers finished in second place behind Peters Township in the WPIAL championship on Thursday at Cedarbrook/Gold Golf Course in Belle Vernon. Senior Alex Morse shot a 3-over 75 to pace the Tigers to the silver medal. Sophomore Michael recorded a 77 for NA. Peters Township led the competition with a 387 while the Tigers posted a 395. Seniors Alex Morse and Will Corbett, along with sophomore Michael Turner, will compete in the PIAA Individual Championships at Heritage Hills Golf Club in York, PA. on Monday and Tuesday. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS WIN SEMIFINAL, HEAD TO WPIAL FINAL Led by sophomore Michael Turner's 1-under 71, the Tigers captured first place in the semifinals at Hiland Golf Club in Butler on Tuesday to advance to the WPIAL finals. Senior Matt Pekins shot a 74 and Alex Morse a 78 as NA finished two strokes better than Shady Side Academy and Trinity who tied for second place. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * MORSE LEADS TIGERS OVER SENECA VALLEY, 180-198; TIGERS MAKE PLAYOFFS Senior Alex Morse shot a three under par 32 to lead the Tigers to a 180-198 victory over Seneca Valley at Cranberry Highlands GC on Tuesday afternoon. The victory puts NA into the playoffs with a second place finish in the section. Sophomore Michael Turner posted a 1 under par 34 while junior Jeff Hinds had a 37, senior Matt Pekins a 38, and senior Will Corbett a 39. The 180 was the lowest score of the season for NA. The win booster the NA section record to a final 9-3 mark, the overall record advancing to 11-3. The Tigers will conclude their dual match season with a non-section meeting with Fox Chapel this afternoon. Tee off time at Diamond Run is set for 3:30 pm. CONGRATULATIONS ON A GREAT SEASON! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS QUALIFY THREE FOR PIAA CHAMPIONSHIP Seniors Alex Morse and Will Corbett both shot 76s to finish in a second place tie in the WPIAL Individual Championships at Mystic Rock Golf Course on Monday. Sophomore Michael Turner posted a 79 to tie for 13th place. All three NA golfers qualified for the PIAA championships to be held at Heritage Hills Golf Club in York, PA. on October 25 and 26. North Allegheny is the only school district to be represented by more than one player. In Coach Rittman's long career, NA has never taken more than two players to states! CONGRATULATIONS TO ALEX, WILL AND MICHAEL! The Tiger team will travel to Seneca Valley this afternoon to meet the Raiders in a very important final section match. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS POST SEASON LOW SCORE IN BEATING SHALER, 181-197 The Tigers avenged an earlier loss to Shaler by shooting their lowest team score of the year as they defeated the Titans, 181-197, at Diamond Run Golf Course on Thursday afternoon. Seniors Alex Morse and Matt Pekins posted par 35s to lead the way with senior Will Corbett a stroke behind at 36. Sophomore Michael Turner added a 37 and junior Jeff Hinds a 38 in what head coach Dede Rittman termed "an awesome win!" The win put NA back in the playoff picture as they improved their section record to 8-3, the overall mark to 10-3. The Tigers will conclude section play on Tuesday when they travel to Cranberry Highlands to meet Seneca Valley in a 3:30 match. MATCH SUMMARY
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS OVERWHELM NEW CASTLE, 192-243 The Tigers easily defeated the New Castle Red Hurricanes, 192-243, at Diamond Run Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon. Four Tigers recorded 38s to lead NA to the victory. Seniors Alex Morse, Will Corbett, Steve Wagner, and sophomore Michael Turner all posted 3 over 38s. The victory improved the NA section record to 7-3, the overall season mark to 9-3. The Tigers will host Shaler tomorrow afternoon at Diamond Run in a 3:30 pm section match. MATCH SUMMARY

The three Tigers will compete for the title next Monday at Mystic Rock Golf Course. NA was the only team to have three golfers in the top ten. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * WAGNER LEADS TIGERS TO 194-205 VICTORY OVER BUTLER Senior Steve Wagner shot a one-over 36 to claim medallist honors on Thursday afternoon at Diamond Run Golf Course as he led the Tigers to a 194-205 victory over Butler. Junior Jeff Hinds posted a 37 while senior Alex Morse and sophomore Michael Turner came in with 39s. Aaron Ordy led Butler with an even-par 35. The win improved the Tigers section record to 6-3, the overall mark to 8-3. The Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday when they host New Castle in a match that was postponed from this past Tuesday. Good luck to seniors Will Corbett and Alex Morse, along with sophomore Michael Turner, who will play in the WPIAL Semifinal Round at Wildwood Country Club on Monday. Morse shot a 77 while Corbett and Turner both posted 78s on the par 70 course. Junior Jeff Hinds just missed the cut with an 80 while senior Matt Pekins was one shot back at 81. Defending WPIAL champion, Pine Richland's Mike Van Sickle, shot a four-under 66 to lead the qualifiers. The semifinals will be played next Monday at Wildwood Country Club. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS DOWN BUTLER, 182-202 Senior Alex Morse shot an even par 35 to pace the Tigers to a 182-202 victory over Butler at Diamond Run on Wednesday afternoon. Senior Will Corbett added a one over 36 while three Tigers golfers came in at 2 over as NA posted the lowest score of the year in picking up the victory. Andrew Shakely and Matt Maloy both shot a four over 39 to lead the Tornado. The win improved the NA section record to 5-3, the overall mark to 7-3 on the season. The Tigers will be back in action again next Tuesday when they host New Castle in a 3:30 pm section match. The WPIAL Section Qualifier will be held at Cranberry Highlands on Monday beginning at 10:00 am. Representing NA will be seniors Alex Morse, Will Corbett and Matt Pekins along with junior Jeff Hinds and sophomore Michael Turner. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * FRANKLIN REGIONAL FALLS TO NA, 190-195, IN NON-SECTION MATCH Coach Dede Rittman's Tigers defeated Franklin Regional, 190-195, at Meadowink Golf Course on Monday afternoon in a non-section match. Senior Alex Morse posted an even par 36 to earn medallist honors. Sophomore Michael Turner and senior Matt Pekins both shot two-over 38s in the victory. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS BEAT PINE-RICHLAND, LOSE TO SENECA VALLEY The Tigers won and lost on Wednesday afternoon in a tri-match at Diamond Run Golf Course. NA avenged an earlier defeat by knocking off the Pine-Richland Rams, 185-193, but Seneca Valley shot a 183 to edge the Tigers by two strokes. Senior Alex Morse again led NA with a two-under 33. Senior Will Corbett as second for the Tigers with an even-par 35. Mitch Mercer posted a 36 to pace Pine-Richland while Mike Reiderer shot a one-over 37 for Seneca. The win and loss puts the NA section record at 4-3, the overall mark at 5-3 on the season. NA will be back in action tomorrow when they travel to Shady Side Academy for a non-section match. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * WPIAL BOYS' GOLF - 2004 The Tigers will compete again in Division I, along with 60 other teams this year. The top two (2) teams and ties for second place in each section will enter the team championship semi-finals on October 19, 2004. It two teams tie for second place but one of the teams has lost both head to head contests, that team will not enter the tournament round. Three way ties will be broken in the following manner: 1. Section records of the
tied teams will be compiled. The format for boys' golf is a team comprised of six golfers who play for a combined team total medal score for the day. Only the top five scores will count to determine the team winner for the match. This format is in effect for all team matches. In case of a tie in total medal score, the medallist for both teams will play "sudden death" extra holes. If there are co-medallists on either team, the coach will select one of them to compete in the tie-breaker. INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS The WPIAL individual championships will begin with a sectional qualifying tournament comprised of five (5) players from each section team. Each sectional qualifier will be hosted at one of the section courses. The 2004 sectional qualifiers have been scheduled for Monday, September 27, 2004. The top ten (10) players from each sectional tournament will advance to the semi-final round. The semi-final round will consist of one hundred sixty (160) contestants - ten (10) from each of the sixteen (16) sectional tournaments. The semi-final round will be conducted on Monday, October 4 , 2004 at four (4) different courses. Forty (40) contestants, ten per section, will be assigned to each semi-final site. The individual final round will consist of forty (40) contestants, the top ten (10) from each semi-final round site. The final round will be held on Monday, October 11, 2004, at a course to be designated. The top sixteen (16) contestants from the WPIAL Final Round will qualify for the PIAA championship tournament to be held at Heritage Hill Golf Course (York, PA) on October 25-26, 2004.
