*MATCH SUMMARIES*

TIGERS BEAT HAMPTON, 5-0, FOR TENTH WIN

The Tigers beat the wind and rain at Hampton on Wednesday afternoon on their way to a 5-0 shutout of the Talbots.  In singles play, sophomore Payom Dousti, senior Lee House, and freshman Ryan Hennessee were all victorious for NA.  In doubles play, juniors Mike Cobetto and Perry Evangelista teamed up for a win as did senior Danny Moosa and junior Pat Miller.

The Tigers will be back in action again this afternoon when they host Kiski Prep in a non-section match.  The scheduled starting time today is set for 4:00 pm.

COBETTO WINS SILVER AT WPIAL FINALS

Junior Mike Cobetto dropped a two-set match to sophomore Jon Spero of Shady Side Academy, 6-4 and 6-3, in the WPIAL Championship final at Norwin High School on Tuesday afternoon.  Cobetto has qualified for the PIAA tournament with his second-place finish.

Cobetto won three matches on Monday afternoon to advance to the championship of the WPIAL Singles Tournament at Norwin High School.  Cobetto knocked off Matt Ferraccio of Kiski Area, 10-0, in the first round before defeating Nick Voloch of Hempfield in the quarterfinals.  In the semifinals, Cobetto downed Evan Reese of Upper St. Clair in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-3.

Cobetto will face Jon Spero of Shady Side Academy for the title this afternoon.  Match time is scheduled for 3:00 pm at Norwin.  NSN Sports will broadcast the match live on the internet.

TIGERS GAIN REVENGE WITH 4-1 WIN OVER BUTLER

Coach John Woffington's Tigers avenged an earlier loss to Butler with a 4-1 victory over the Tornado at the Senior High courts on Friday afternoon.  The doubles team of sophomore Payom Dousti and junior Perry Evangelista got the Tigers off to a good start with a dominating performance.  Freshman Ryan Hennessee and senior Mike Cobetto both won singles matches for the victorious Tigers.

The win moved NA into first place with a section record of 5-1, an overall mark of 9-1. The Tigers will be back in action again on Wednesday when they travel to Hampton for a 3:30 pm section match.

TIGERS DOWN PETERS TOWNSHIP, 4-1

The Tigers downed Peters Township, 4-1, at the Senior High courts on Thursday afternoon, but are eagerly awaiting today's rematch with Butler.  The Tornado defeated the Tigers, 3-2, earlier in the season, and NA is looking for revenge.  The winner of today's match will take over first place in the section.  Match time is set for 3:00 pm at the Senior High courts.

Against Peters Township, sophomore Payom Dousti and senior Lee House were victorious in the singles matches.  In doubles play, the Tiger teams swept their matches.  At number one doubles, the team of junior Pat Miller and Danny Moosa won in two sets while the junior team of Adam Johnson and Justin Wang followed suit with a two-set victory.

The win improved the NA overall record to 8-1 on the season, 4-1 in section play.

Tiger fans --- come on out and support the Tigers today against Butler!  Senior High courts at 3:00 pm!

COBETTO TAKES SECTION SINGLES TITLE

Junior Mike Cobetto defeated Ike Backstoro from Butler, 6-3 and 6-3, to win the Section 2 singles championship at LakeVue Racquet Club on Wednesday afternoon.  Cobetto won two matches on Tuesday afternoon at LakeVue Racquet Club to advance to the finals of the Section Singles tournament.  Cobetto will play Ike Backstoro of Butler today in the final.  Because of the inclement weather, play is scheduled again for LakeVue this afternoon.

After receiving a bye in the first round, Cobetto defeated Eric Fischer of Hampton, 10-3, in the quarterfinals.  In the semis, Cobetto downed Brad Straub of Butler, 6-0 and 6-0, to move on to the championship final.  Sophomore Payom Dousti defeated Matt Maguire of North Hills, 10-1, in the first round before falling to Andy Zipf of Seneca Valley, 10-5, in the quarterfinals.

The Tiger team will host Peters Township this afternoon at the Senior High courts.  Match time is set for 3:15 pm for the non-section contest.

TIGERS DOWN SENECA VALLEY, 4-1

The Tigers traveled to Seneca Valley on Tuesday afternoon and came home with a hard-earned 4-1 victory.  The much improved Raiders, coached by former NA assistant Eric Grove,  gave NA they could handle.  The Tigers got big wins from junior Mike Cobetto at #1 singles and sophomore Payom Dousti at #2 singles.  NA's #2 doubles team of senior Lee House and junior Pat Miller dropped a tough match.

With NA leading, 2-1, "Things got a little hairy!" according to Coach John Woffington.  The number one doubles team of Perry Evangelista and senior Danny Moosa split their first two sets.  The Tiger duo fell behind 0-4 and 2-5 in the deciding set before rallying to win five straight games and take a 7-5 decision.  With the victory, the Tigers clinched the match.  Meanwhile, freshman Ryan Hennessee was engaged in a marathon at #3 singles.  Hennessee eventually outlasted Caleb Zalenko in two 7-6 sets, both decided by 8-6 tiebreakers!

The Tigers improved their record to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in section play.  NA and Butler are tied for first place and will meet at NA on Friday, April 16.  The Section Singles Tournament will be held next Wednesday and Thursday at the Senior High courts.  Mike Cobetto and Payom Dousti will represent the Tigers.

TIGERS BLANK NORTH HILLS, 5-0

Playing in bitter cold and gale force winds, the Tigers dominated archrival North Hills, 5-0, at the Senior High courts on Monday afternoon.  Senior Mike Cobetto, sophomore Payom Dousti, and freshman Ryan Hennessee once again won in straight sets without losing a game in the singles competition.

The doubles' teams came through with victories to preserve the shutout.  At #1 doubles, it was the team of junior Perry Evangelista and senior Danny Moosa and at #2 doubles, senior Lee House and junior Pat Miller.  

The victory improved the NA section record to 3-1, the overall mark 5o 6-1.  The Tigers will travel to Seneca Valley today for a 3:30 pm section match instead of playing a non-section match at home against Shady Side Academy.

SHALER FALLS TO NA, 5-0; TIGERS MEET NORTH HILLS AT HOME TODAY

Coach John Woffington's Tigers improved their section record to 2-1, their overall mark to 5-1, with a 5-0 victory over Shaler at Oxford Athletic Club on Friday afternoon.  In singles matches, the Tigers won in straight sets without losing a game.  Junior Mike Cobetto won at #1 singles, with sophomore Payom Dousti at #2 and freshman Ryan Hennessee taking the #3 singles match.

In doubles play, both Tiger teams won in convincing fashion.  Junior Perry Evangelista teamed up with senior Danny Moosa to win at the #1 doubles while senior Lee House and junior Pat Miller took the #2 doubles match.  

NA will host rival North Hills at the Senior High courts this afternoon.  Match time is set for 3:00 pm.

TIGERS HAMMER HAMPTON, 5-0

The Tigers bounced back from their first defeat of the season with a 5-0 section victory over Hampton at the Senior High courts on Monday afternoon.  Junior Mike Cobetto, sophomore Payom Dousti, and senior Danny Moosa swept their singles matches in straight sets to pace NA to the win.

In doubles play, the junior team of Perry Evangelista and Pat Miller and the team of junior Adam Johnson and sophomore Ryan Hennessee dominated doubles play.  The Tigers will be back in action tomorrow when they travel to Seneca Valley for a section match.

The Butler Golden Tornado defeated the Tigers, 3-2, in the section opener at Butler on Friday afternoon.  With the loss, the NA overall record dropped to 3-1 on the season.  NA and Butler tied for the section title last year, with the two teams splitting the two matches.

TIGERS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT

The Tigers edged Mt. Lebanon, 3-2, at the Senior High courts on Thursday afternoon for their third consecutive victory.  Singles victories by sophomore Payom Dousti and senior Danny Moosa, along with a win by the doubles team of junior Adam Johnson and sophomore Ryan Hennessee, gave the Tigers a big early season win.  

At number one singles, Dousti swept Colin Laffey of Lebo, 6-2 and 6-1 while Moosa outlasted Steve Silver, 6-2, 5-7, and 7-5.  Johnson and Hennessee won a tough match against Grady Yue and Brendan Laffey in three sets.  Coach John Woffington commented, "It was a very competitive match and a great TEAM win early in the season!"

NA will travel to Butler this afternoon as they open defense of their section title against the Tornado.  Match time is set for 3:30 pm.

TIGERS DOWN QUAKER VALLEY, 4-1, FOR SECOND WIN

Despite playing in the rain, the Tigers were able to defeat Quaker Valley, 4-1, at Quaker Valley on Wednesday afternoon for their second consecutive victory.  Junior Mike Cobetto and sophomore Payom Dousti dominated their singles opponents to lead the way for NA.

The Tigers won both doubles matches.  The senior team of Lee House and Danny Moosa, along with the junior  team of Pat Miller and Adam Johnson were victorious over the Quakers.  Mt. Lebanon will be the opponent for NA this afternoon at the Senior High courts as the Tigers continue to prepare for Friday's section opener against Butler.

TIGERS OPEN WITH 4-1 WIN OVER PINE-RICHLAND

The Tigers opened the 2004 season with a 4-1 non-section victory over the Pine-Richland Rams at the Senior High courts on Tuesday afternoon.  NA will be back in action again this afternoon when they travel to Quaker Valley for a 3:30 pm match.
