TIGERS WIN MOON MIXED RELAYS

The Tiger track and field teams combined to win the Moon Mixed Relays on Wednesday afternoon at Moon High School.  NA scored 122 points to easily outdistance second-place Seneca Valley.  The Tiger teams will host Butler tomorrow afternoon in a key section meet.  The scheduled starting time is set for 3:30 pm.

TIGER TEAMS KNOCK OUT KNOCH

Meet Results

Both Tiger track and field teams were victorious over the Knoch Knights on Tuesday afternoon at Knoch.  The boys' squad downed Knoch, 90-60, while the Lady Tigers overwhelmed the home team, 116-34. 

In the boys' meet, the Tigers took five running events and five field events.  On the track, sophomore Max Brown won the 1600, senior Brett Pollack captured the 800 and senior Jesse Snider won the grueling 3200 meter run.  Two relay teams were successful.  In the 3200 relay, junior Grant Butson, junior Dan Boada, along with Snider and Brown, took first place.  Sophomore Evan Scott, senior Kevin Shugars, sophomore Nick Henderson, and sophomore Bill Knight teamed up to win the 400 relay. 

In the field, it was junior Andrew McMillen again leading the way.  McMillen won both the shot put and discus while senior Steve Irlbacher took first in the javelin.  Senior Jason Strimmel added a first in the high jump while freshman Sean Gil won the pole vault.

The Lady Tigers dominated the meet, winning all but two events.  In the running events, junior Rebecca Mapel captured both hurdles races.  Six additional Lady Tigers took first place in their respective events.  Sophomore Lindsay Appel won the 100, junior Lauren Lorenzi was first in the 1600, senior Molly Friel captured the 400, sophomore Kelley O'Brien was first in the 800, senior Shannon Yon outran all opponents in the 200, and sophomore Sarah LeDonne took the 3200.

NA won all three relay races.  In the 3200, it was Lorenzi, LeDonne, junior Lindsay Schmiedle, and freshman Mia Ficerai outrunning Knoch to take first.  Freshman Kelly Langhans, freshman Brittany Skinner, junior Katie Elmore, and Appel teamed up to win the 400 sprint relay.  In the 1600 relay, Yon, Elmore, Appel, and Langhans gave NA another first-place finish.

The win by the Lady Tigers kept them unbeaten with a 5-0 mark while the boys' team improved their record to 4-1.  The Tiger teams will host Butler on Friday afternoon at Newman Stadium in the last section meet.  The scheduled starting time is 3:30 pm.

LADY TIGERS TAKE SECOND PLACE AT BUTLER INVITATIONAL

Led by wins in the 1600 and 3200 meter relays, the Lady Tigers finished in section place at the Butler Invitational on Saturday.  Senior Amy Ruffolo won the 3200 meter race while senior Shannon Yon earned second place in the high jump, long jump, and triple jump.  The Tigers tallied 86 points to winner McDowell's 107.  The NA 400 meter relay team captured second place.

The Tiger teams will be back in action again on Tuesday when they travel to Knoch for a 3:30 pm section meet.

TIGERS CAPTURE THIRD PLACE AT BUTLER INVITATIONAL

Led by a victory in the 3200 meter relay, the Tigers finished in third place in the Butler Invitational on Friday night.  Senior Kevin Shugars took third in the intermediate hurdles, while junior Andrew McMillen was third in the discus.  The Lady Tigers will compete in the Butler Invitational this morning beginning at 9:00 am.

The meet MVPs were Calvin Littlejohn from Butler and Auston Papay from Sharon in field events and Ian Fitzgerald from North Hills in track events.

LADY TIGERS WIN TWO, TIGERS SPLIT AT SHALER

Meet Results

The Lady Tigers overwhelmed both Shaler and North Hills in a tri-meet at Shaler on Wednesday afternoon.  NA defeated Shaler, 94.5-57.5, and North Hills, 95-56.  The boys' team downed Shaler, 116-27, but dropped a tough 77-72 decision to North Hills.

Against Shaler, the boys' team took 10 of 11 running events.  Leading the way were three double winners.  Senior Kevin Shugars captured both hurdles races, sophomore Bill Knight won the 100 and 200 sprints, and sophomore Max Brown won the 800 and 3200 distance races.  Senior Jesse Snider took first in the 1600.  NA won two of the three relay races, being disqualified in the other.  In the 1600 relay, the team of Shugars, sophomore Evan Scott, senior Brett Pollack and junior Dan Boada captured first place.  

In field events, NA won five of seven, led by junior Andrew McMillen who won the shot put and discus.  Junior Collin Moleton captured the javelin, sophomore Nick Henderson won the high jump, and Knight added the pole vault gold to his two first place sprint finishes.

The Lady Tigers captured seven of the eleven running events.  Freshman Kelly Langhans won the 400, sophomore Lindsay Appel took the 200, sophomore Sarah LeDonne was first in the 3200, and senior Amy Ruffolo won the 1600.  NA won all three relay races.  In the 3200, sophomores Michelle Diez and Kelley O'Brien teamed up with seniors Ruffalo and Molly Friel to capture first

NA won five of seven field events led by senior Shannon Yon who doubled in the high and triple jumps.  Senior Kathy Garman won the shot put, junior Katie Elmore captured the long jump, while freshman Kristen Zeleznik took first in the pole vault.

Against North Hills, the Tigers took only four firsts in the running events.  Shugars once again was first in both hurdles races, Boada won the 400, and the 1600 relay team of Shugars, Scott, Pollack and Boada defeated the Indians.  In the field, NA fared a little better winning four of seven.  McMillen again was first in both the shot and discus, Moleton won the javelin, and Knight captured the pole vault.

For the Lady Tigers, the track team won eight of eleven races.  Both Appel, in the 100 and 200, and Ruffalo, in the 800 and 400, were double winners while Langhans won the 400.  All three relay teams were victorious over North Hills.  In the 400, Appel, Elmore, freshman Brittany Skinner, and Langhans were first.  Elmore, Appel, Yon, and Langhans teamed up to take the 1600 relay while the team of O'Brien, Ruffalo, Diez, and Friel outran the Indians in the 3200.

In field events, NA took first place in three of the seven events contested.  Freshman Jinay Pina won the shot put, Garman took the discus, and Yon won the high jump.

The Tiger teams will be back in action tomorrow and Saturday.  The boys' team will take part in the Butler Invitational on Friday beginning at 3:00 pm while the girls' squad will travel to Butler on Saturday morning with the action getting under way at 9:00 am.  The 9th and 10th grade team will be at Seneca Valley tomorrow for the Seneca Valley Invitational beginning at 3:30 pm.

TIGER TEAMS CRUSH HAMPTON

Meet Results

Both the boys' and girls' track and field teams were victorious over Hampton by wide margins on Tuesday afternoon at Newman Stadium.  The Hampton boys fell to the Tigers, 123-27, while the Lady Tigers overwhelmed the Lady Talbots, 118-32.  The wins were the third straight for the Tiger teams.  

The Tigers won 10 of 11 races on the track in their win.  Senior Kevin Shugars, junior Dan Boada, and sophomore Max Brown were all double winners for the Tigers.  Shugars took both hurdles, Boada won the 400 and 800, and Brown doubled at the distance races (1600 and 3200).  Sophomore Bill Knight took first place in the 200 meter dash.  All three Tiger relay teams won their events.  In the 3200, senior Jesse Snider and junior Steve Wize teamed up with Boada and Brown to take first.  In the sprint relay, junior Evan Scott, Shugars, sophomore Nick Henderson, and Knight were too fast for the Talbots.  In the 1600, it was Shugars, Boada, Snider, and Brown teaming up again to win first place.

TIGER TEAMS DOMINATE SENECA VALLEY

Meet Results

Both the boys' and girls' track and field teams were victorious over Seneca Valley on Friday afternoon at Newman Stadium.  The boys' squad rolled over the Raiders, 102-48, while the Lady Tigers outpointed Seneca, 89-61.  The wins were the second without a loss for NA.  

In boys' competition, the Tigers won 6 of 11 races on the track.  Individual winners for NA were junior Dan Boada in the 400, senior Jesse Snider in the 800 and sophomore Max Brown in the 3200.  All three relay teams were victorious.  In the 3200 relay, junior Steve Wize, Snider, Boada, and Brown teamed up for the victory.  At 400 meters, it was sophomore Evan Scott, senior Kevin Shugars, and sophomores Bill Knight and Nick Henderson.  Winning the 1600 relay for NA were Boada, Shugars, Snider, and Brown.

BOTH TIGER TEAMS VICTORIOUS IN SECTION OPENERS

Meet Results

It was a successful debut for first-year coach John Neff as both the boys' and girls' track and field teams were victorious in the section openers at Pine-Richland on Tuesday afternoon.  The boys' squad had little trouble with the Rams, winning by a score of 105-27.  The Lady Tigers followed suit with an 88-44 victory over Pine-Richland.

In the boys' meet, the Tigers won 8 of 11 events on the track.  Senior Kevin Shugars took both hurdles races while sophomore Max Brown won both the 1600 and 800 meter runs.  Sophomore Billy Knight won the 100 and sophomore Pat Baxter was victorious in the long 3200 meter run.  NA won two of three relay races.  In the field, the Tigers captured five first places, led by junior Andrew McMillen in both the discus and the shot put.  Junior Colin Moleton won the javelin, senior Ben Whitten was first in the long jump, and sophomore Adam Hambrick captured the triple jump.

The Lady Tigers were victorious in 7 of 11 running events.  Sophomore Michelle Diez dominated the distance events, winning both the 1600 and 800.  Junior Sarah LeDonne won the 3200 meter run, giving NA a sweep in the distance races.  Sophomore Lindsay Appel outraced the competition to take the 100 meter dash.  NA won all three relay races.  In the field, the Lady Tigers were first in four events.  Senior Shannon Yon led the way by winning both the long and triple jumps.  Senior Kathy Garman took first in the discus while junior Amanda Posteraro won the javelin.

The Tigers will be back in action again tomorrow when they host Seneca Valley in a section meet.  The starting time at Newman Stadium is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
