TIGERS DUNK SHALER TWICE

Meet Results

Both the girls' and boys' teams were victorious over Shaler at the Senior High pool on Thursday night.  The Tigers downed the Titans, 110-62, while the Lady Tigers defeated Shaler, 108-63  The boys' squad won seven events, including sweeps in the 50 free and 100 fly.  The Lady Tigers won nine events, sweeping the 50 free, diving, 100 fly and the 200 free relay.

Junior Patrick Kirsch led the boys' team with first place finishes in both the 100 fly and 100 breaststroke  Junior Steve Hilty took first in the 200 free and swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay team, senior Jeff Glick was second in the 500 free and was part of the winning relay, freshman Nate Kurtanich captured second in the 100 free and was part of the 200 free relay, and sophomore Brendan Kirsch was third in the 200 IM and helped the 200 free relay to victory.

In diving, junior Matt Kuhn was first and senior Matt Verlinich third.  Junior Andrew Shepard added third place points in both the 50 free and 100 backstroke.  Junior Kevin Gasperich own the 200 IM, sophomore Brandon Smith captured the 50 free with sophomore Matt Scherer second.  Second-place honors went to junior Andrew Keelin in the 200 free and sophomore Connor Battle in the 100 fly.  Junior Craig Bentzen was third in the 100 fly, sophomore Scott Van Buskirk took third in the 500 free, and freshman Mark Schenker captured third in the 100 free.

Sophomore Christine Mulkern was the individual leader for the Lady Tigers winning both the 200 free and 500 free, along with swimming on the winning 200 free relay.  Senior Katie Belardi won the 100 fly, took second in the 200 IM, and was part of the winning 200 free relay.  Senior Tara Thompson won the 50 free and helped the medley relay to victory, senior Laura Powell was second in the 50 free and third in the 100 fly, and junior Kathy Faingold captured second in the 100 fly and swam on the first-place 200 free relay squad.  Junior Lindsay Chapon was third in the 50 free and was part of the winning 200 free relay team.

The Lady Tigers swept the diving competition with three sophomores taking the top three places.  Alaina Stark was first, Samantha Norris took second, and Katie Lefkowitz captured third.  Two freshman won races with Jamie Chakany taking the 200 IM and Jessica Shearer winning the 100 free.  Senior Megan Hritz took second in the 500 free, junior Emilie Homa captured second in the 200 free, and freshman Kara Stone was second in the 100 free.  

Senior Kim Jenkins swam on both the medley and 200 free winning relay teams while freshman Cait Cready was part of the medley relay squad.  Junior Erica Harpur was third in the 100 free for the Lady Tigers.  

The boys' squad is now 2-0 in section, 5-0 overall while the girls' team is 2-0 in section, 4-1 on the season.  The Tiger teams will be back in action again on Tuesday when they host Franklin Regional in a non-section meet.  Scheduled starting time at the Senior High pool is 6:00 pm.

TIGERS TAKE TITLE AT LITITZ ALL-AMERICAN INVITATIONAL

Meet Results

The Tiger teams won the combined team championship at the Lititz All-American Invitational held on Friday and Saturday at Lititz.  NA defeated Bishop Hoban, Hempfield, Radnor, West Chester East, and host team Warwick to win the championship.  The championship for the boys' division and the girls' division also went to North Allegheny.

The Tigers won two of the three relay races on their way to the championship.  In the 200 free, the team of sophomore Matt Scherer, sophomore Brandon Smith, junior Kevin Gasperich and Rob Semanchik took first.  In the 400 free, Semanchik, sophomore Rob Meyers, Gasperich and Scherer also took the gold.  The 200 medley team of sophomore Brendan Kirsch, Meyers, senior Jeff Glick, and Semanchik placed second.

In individual events, Smith won the 200 individual medley while Glick captured the 100 fly.  Gasperich was second in the 200 free and third in the 500 free, and junior Pat Kirsch took second in the 200 IM and third in the 200 back.  Scherer placed second in the 500 free and third in the 200 free while Meyers took third in both the 50 free and 100 free.  Freshman Nate Kurtanich added a second in the 100 fly for the winning Tiger team.

For the Lady Tigers, the 400 free relay team won the title thanks to freshman Jamie Chakany, senior Katie Belardi, senior Kim Jenkins, and junior Kathy Faingold.  The 200 free relay team of freshman Cait Creedy, sophomore Crissy Stack, sophomore Christine Mulkern, and senior Laura Powell took third place.  The 200 medley team placed fourth.

In individual events, Chakany led the way with a first in the 50 free and a third in the 100 free.  Faingold was second in the 200 IM and third in the 100 breaststroke.  Jenkins placed third in the 200 free while Belardi captured third in the 200 fly.

The Tiger teams will be back in action tonight when they host Shaler in a section meet.  The starting time at the Senior High pool is set for 6:00 pm.

TIGER TEAMS DUNK FOX CHAPEL

Meet Results

Both the boys' and girls' swimming and diving teams were victorious at Fox Chapel on Tuesday night as Section 2 competition began.  The boys' team remained unbeaten with a 114-71 victory over the Foxes while the Lady Tigers improved their overall mark to 3-1 with a 105-81 win.  Both teams are 1-0 in section.

The Tigers boys' squad won seven events, including all three relays, as they downed the Foxes.  Sophomore Matt Scherer paced NA with a first in the 500 free, a 3rd in the 50 free, and victories in the 200 and 400 free relays.  Junior Kevin Gasperich took second in the 200 free, third in the 200 free, and swam on the winning 200 and 400 free relays.  Junior Peter Cai was 3rd in the 200 IM, second in the 100 breaststroke, and swam on both the 200 medley and 400 free relay teams.  Sophomore Brandon Smith captured a second in the 200 IM and helped both the 200 medley and 400 free relay squads to victory.

Senior Jeff Glick was second in the 500 free and third in the 100 back, freshman Nate Kurtanich won the 100 fly and swam on the medley relay team, while sophomore Rob Meyers took third in the 100 breaststroke and helped the 200 free relay team to a win.  Junior Stephen Hilty was part of both the 200 and 400 winning freestyle relay teams.

Junior Matt Kuhn took first in diving with senior Matt Verlinich second.  Junior Patrick Kirsch won the 100 back, junior Andrew Shepard was third in the 500 free and freshman Jordan Lebovitz was third in the 100 fly.  Sophomore Brendan Kirsch was a part of the winning medley relay.

The Lady Tigers won six events, including a sweep of the diving competition on their way to victory.  Senior Tara Thompson led the way with a pair of second place finishes in the 100 fly and 100 breaststroke along with swimming on the winning 200 medley relay squad.  Freshman Andrea Chavlovich won the 100 fly and swam on the winning relay team, while junior Emilie Homa took second in both the 200 and 500 free, and sophomore Christine Mulkern captured third in both the 200 and 500 free.  Senior Alex DeFazio led the NA sweep in diving followed by freshman Olivia DeFazio and junior Claire Mackay.

Senior Kim Jenkins won the 200 IM, sophomore Crissy Stack captured the 100 back, and freshman Jamie Chakany won gold in the 100 breaststroke.  Senior Katie Belardi was second in the 50 free while junior Lindsay Chapon took second in the 200 free.  Junior Erica Harpur added third place points in the 100 back while freshman Jessica Shearer was third in the 50 free.  Freshman Kara Stone and senior Laura Powell were the other two members of the winning medley relay.

The Tiger teams will be back in action again this weekend when they travel to the Lititz Invitational.  Competition will get underway at 12:30 pm tomorrow and conclude on Saturday.

TIGER TEAMS WIN TWO AGAINST GATEWAY

Meet Results

The Tiger boys' team edged Gateway, 94-92, to win their third straight without a loss while the Lady Tigers defeated the Gators, 114-72, to improve their record to 2-1 at the Senior High pool on Tuesday night.  

The Lady Tigers won seven of the twelve events along with sweeping the 500 freestyle.  Junior Kathy Faingold won the 100 free and swam on  both winning relay teams while senior Laura Powell had a first in the 200 free, a second in the 500 free, and was a part of the winning 400 free relay.  Senior Katie Belardi won the 50 free and helped the 200 medley relay team to victory while senior Kim Jenkins captured first in the 500 free and also swam on the winning medley relay.  Junior Elaine Healy earned first-place points in the 100 breaststroke.

Senior Tara Thompson picked up team points with a second in the 200 IM and a third in the 100 fly.  Freshmen Jamie Chakany and Annie Lutz took second places in the 200 free and 100 back respectively and both swam winning relay teams.  Sophomore Christine Mulkern was third in the 500 free and was a part of the winning 400 free relay.  Junior Lindsay Chapon was second in the 50 free, freshman Olivia DeFazio was second in diving, freshman Andrea Chavlovich captured second in the 100 fly while junior Erica Harpur was third in the 100 back.

The Lady Tiger relay teams won the 200 medley and 400 free while placing second in the 200 free.

Once again, depth on the boys' team paid off in the close victory.  The Tigers won four events but placed second in eight events and third in seven others to earn enough points to nip the Gators.  Junior Patrick Kirsch led the way with a first in the 100 back, a second in the 200 IM along with being a member of the winning 200 medley relay.  Junior Peter Cai won the 100 breaststroke and swam on the winning medley relay.  Sophomore Rob Meyers took second in both the 50 and 100 freestyle races and was a part of both winning relay teams.  Sophomore Brandon Smith captured a second in the 100 back, a third in the 200 free and was part of the 200 free relay squad.

The Tiger relay teams won both the 200 medley and 200 freestyle races.  In addition to team members mentioned above, senior Rob Semanchik and sophomore Matt Scherer swam on the winning 200 free relay team.

The Tiger teams will begin section competition next Tuesday when they travel to Fox Chapel to meet the Foxes.  Meet time is scheduled for 6:00 pm.

TIGER TEAMS TAKE TWO FROM LEBO

Meet Results

Both Tiger teams were victorious against Mt. Lebanon in the home opener on Thursday night.  The boys' team edged the Blue Devils, 102-78, while the Lady Tigers swamped Lebo, 127-58.The Lady Tigers won 11 of 12 events to easily down Mt. Lebanon.  NA captured all three relays and swept three events - diving, the 100 freestyle and the 500 freestyle.

Leading the way for the Lady Tigers was senior Katie Belardi with first place finishes in the 100 and 200 free along with swimming on all three winning relays.  Junior Kathy Faingold won the 200 IM and also swam on all three relays.  Senior Tara Thompson captured the 500 free and took third in the 200 free while helping the 400 free relay to a victory.  Freshman Jamie Chakany won the 50 free, took third in the 100 free and swam on the 200 medley and freestyle relay teams.

Sophomore Crissy Stack was first in the 100 backstroke and swam on the 200 medley team, while freshman Annie Lutz won the 100 breaststroke.  Senior Kim Jenkins was second in the 100 free and helped all three NA relay teams to victory.  Sophomore Ashley Ferraro was second in the 100 fly and third in the 200 IM.  Senior Laura Powell took second in the 500 free, freshman Kara Stone was second in the 100 back, while senior Megan Hritz finished third in the 500 free.

The Lady Tigers swept the diving competition with senior Alex DeFazio coming in first, junior Claire MacKay second, and freshman Olivia DeFazio third.  

The boys' team won only 4 of 12 events, but won the meet with nine seconds and eight thirds.  Sophomore Rob Meyers was the individual leader with first place finishes in both the 50 and 100 free as well as helping the 200 free relay team to victory.  Sophomore Brandon Smith was second in the 200 free and 3rd in the 100 back along with a place on the victorious 200 relay squad.  

Senior Patrick Kirsch gave NA needed points with seconds in the 100 fly and 100 backstroke while junior Kevin Gasperich was second in the 500 free and 3rd in the 200 free.  Junior Craig Bentzen added thirds in both the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke.  Senior Rob Semanchik added a third in the 50 free along with his role in the 200 free relay victory.  

Junior Peter Cai was second in the 100 breaststroke, junior Andrew Shepard took second in the 200 IM, freshman Nate Kurtanich captured third in the 100 fly, and sophomore Matt Scherer was part of the winning relay team.

The Tiger diving team took both first and second with junior Matt Kuhn capturing the gold and junior Steve Domville the silver.  The 200 free relay team was first while the 200 medley and 400 free teams finished in second place.

The Tiger teams will be at home again tomorrow night when they host Gateway in a non-section meet.  The scheduled starting time is set for 6:00 pm.

NA, BETHEL PARK SPLIT IN DUAL MEET OPENER

Meet Results

The Tigers' swimming and diving teams traveled to Bethel Park on Tuesday night and came home with a win and a loss in the season opener.  The boys' team defeated the Blackhawks, 101-76, while the Lady Tigers dropped a close 102-84 decision.

Junior Kevin Gasperich and sophomore Rob Meyers led the Tigers with a pair of first place finishes each.  Gasperich won the 200 and 500 freestyle while Meyers captured the 50 and 100 free.  Senior Jeff Glick was first in the 100 fly and third in the 50 free.  Junior Peter Cai captured the 100 breaststroke.

Junior Pat Kirsch and sophomore Brandon Smith added second and third place points.  Kirsch was second in the 100 back and third in the 200 IM while Smith took second in the 200 IM and third in the 100 breaststroke.  Junior Andrew Shepard was third in the 500 free, sophomore Matt Scherer took third in the 200 free and freshman Nate Kurtanich was third in the 100 fly.  The Tiger relay teams were first and third in the 200 free relay and second in the 200 medley relay.

For the Lady Tigers, senior Katie Belardi and junior Kathy Faingold both took a pair of second place finishes.  Belardi was second in the 200 free and 10 fly while Faingold finished second in both the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.  Senior Tara Thompson added a second in the 500 free and a third in the 200 free.

Freshman Jamie Chakany was second in the 50 free while five NA swimmers finished in third place.  Senior Kim Jenkins took third in the 100 free, senior Laura Powell was third in the 500 free, sophomore Ashley Ferraro captured third in the 100 fly, sophomore Crissy Stack took third in the 100 back, and freshman Annie Lutz was third in the 100 breaststroke.  The Lady Tiger relay teams were second and third in all three relay races.

The Tiger teams will host Mt. Lebanon in the home opener.  The non-section meet is scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm.

TIGERS COMPETE IN STATE COLLEGE INVITATIONAL

Meet Results

The Tigers were in State College on Friday and Saturday and competed in the State College Quad Invitational.  In addition to NA, teams from Emmaus, Erie McDowell, and State College were represented in the initial meet of the season.  The Tigers also took part in the IUP relays on Monday.

In individual results from State College, junior Kathy Faingold brought home the only gold medal finishing first in the 100 breaststroke.  Faingold also captured second in the 200 individual medley and swam on the second place 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams.  Senior Tara Thompson finished second in the 500 freestyle, fifth in the 200 free and also swam on the two second place relay teams.  Freshman Jamie Chakany took 3rd in the 50 free, fifth in the 100 free and was on the second place 200 freestyle relay squad.  

Seniors Katie Belardi swam on both second place relay teams while senior Laura Powell was part of the 400 free team.  Belardi took fourth in both the 200 free and 100 fly while Powell was 4th in the grueling 500 free.  Freshman Annie Lutz was fourth in the 100 breast with sophomore Ashley Ferraro coming in fifth in the 100 fly.

In boys' action, sophomore Rob Meyers was second in the 50 free and 6th in the 100 breaststroke.  Senior Jeff Glick was 5th in the 100 free and 7th in the 100 back.  Sophomore Brandon Smith came in 5th in the 200 IM while sophomore Nate Kurtanich was fifth in the 100 fly.  Sophomore Matt Scherer came in 6th in the 200 free, senior Rob Semanchik was 6th in the 50 free, and junior Patrick Kirsch came in 6th in the 100 fly.  The 200 medley relay team and the 400 freestyle relay teams finished in fourth place while the 200 free relay came in fifth.

The Tiger teams will meet Bethel Park in their first dual meet in two weeks on December 21.  Meet time at Bethel Park is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
