NORTH ALLEGHENY VARSITY GYMNASTICS * WPIAL CHAMPIONS * Photo Courtesy of Lisa Failla McCONNELL CAPTURES SECOND PLACE AT PA CLASSIC Junior Shannon McConnell finished in second place in the all-around competition at the PA Classic at Moon High School on Saturday. McConnell won gold on both the bars and floor exercise. Allie Scola of Hershey won the competition in the Diamond Division. Freshman Hannah Snyder was third in the Gold Division and also won the silver medal on bars. Junior Amy Yatsko finished in fifth place in the Silver Division but collected a silver medal in floor exercises. The Tiger team will not participate in the Team Competition at the PA Classic to be held next weekend at Chambersburg. MEET SUMMARY - PA

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS CAPTURE WPIAL TITLE The Lady Tigers won their second consecutive WPIAL championship at Moon High School on Saturday. Junior Shannon McConnell won the individual all-around title with senior Katie Maranuk in third place to pace NA to the victory. McConnell became the third consecutive NA gymnast to win the all-around championship. Senior Vanessa Rocca won last year, while Maranuk took the title two years ago. McConnell was first in bars with a 9.6, first on beam with a 9.4, first on floor with a 9.45 and second on vault with a 9.6. Maranuk was third in all-around along with a third-place finish ion beam. Sophomore Kelly Stiger posted a seventh place finish. In the intermediate II finals, junior Amy Yatsko was third in all-around and first on floor exercises. The WPIAL crown marks the 18th time in 23 years that North Allegheny has won the championship. The Individual PA Classic will be held on Friday and Saturday at Moon. Shannon McConnell, Amy Yatsko, and Hannah Snyder will compete in the Classic at Moon High School. Amy will compete in the Silver Division in the morning while Hannah (Gold) and Shannon (Diamond) will be in the afternoon session. CONGRATULATIONS TO COACH FAILLA AND THE LADY TIGERS!!! MEET SUMMARY
INDIVIDUAL RESULTS (NA only)
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * BALDWIN HANDS NA FIRST LOSS The Lady Tigers traveled to Baldwin on Monday night and were defeated by the Highlanders, 144.475-144.25. The loss was the first of the season after thirteen consecutive victories. Several key gymnasts were injured and were not able to perform for NA. Senior Katie Maranuk posted a 37.35 all-around score to lead NA with sophomore Kelly Stiger close behind with a 36.85. Freshman Hannah Snyder was third for NA with a 35.2. In individual scores, Maranuk recorded a 9.45 in both vault and floor, a 9.25 on bars, and a 9.2 on floor. Stiger recorded a 9.4 on vault, a 9.2 on floor, 9.25 on beam and 9.0 on bars. Snyder posted a 9.05 on beam while senior Lauren Spence had a 9.0 on bars. With the loss, the final regular season Lady Tiger record stands at 13-1. The WPIAL Championships will be held on Saturday at Moon High School. More information will be posted later in the week concerning the championships. MEET SUMMARY
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS WIN TWO MORE The Lady Tigers defeated both Hopewell and Center on Wednesday night at Rising Star Gymnastics. NA scored 144.275 to to Center's 133.70 and Hopewell-s 121.45. The victories kept the Lady Tigers undefeated for the year. Senior Katie Maranuk led the way for the Lady Tigers with an all-around score of 36.925. Sophomore Kelly Stiger was second with a 36.75 while freshman Hannah Snyder recorded a 35.8. In individual events, Maranuk posted a 9.8 on floor, a 9.425 on vault, and a 9.5 on bars. Senior Lauren Spence recorded a 9.35 on bars while Stiger contributed a 9.525 on floor, a 9.225 on vault and a 9.1 on bars. Senior Vanessa Rocca scored a 9.05 on bars while Snyder came through with a 9.1 on bars and a 9.05 on vault. Last Friday, the Lady Tigers scored 144.725 in defeating Fox Chapel and Pine-Richland. The victories improved the overall NA record to 13-0 on the season. The Lady Tigers will close out regular season competition on Monday when they travel to Baldwin for a 7:00 pm meet. The WPIAL championships will be held on Saturday. MEET SUMMARY
MEET SUMMARY
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * WPIAL GYMNASTICS - 2004-05 The Lady Tigers will compete again in the WPIAL against seven other teams. The WPIAL individual championship will be held on February 12, 2005, at Moon Middle School. The individual championship is open to all competitors who have achieved the qualifying that have been posted on the WPIAL website. All individual qualifying scores for members of teams entered in the WPIAL program must be earned in a regular scheduled meet in which their team competes. No team member can compete as an individual at another school for the qualifying score. Students who participate as an individual or as a member of a team in a gymnastic program other than that of her school while she is participating for the school team shall be ineligible to take part in the WPIAL or PIAA championship events unless she has been in uniform and available to participate as a member of her school team for at least 75 percent of the contests beginning with the team's first interscholastic contest of the regular season. In all dual meets, a team may enter five competitors for each event, but only the scores of four of them can count toward the final score of the meet. 1. Dual meets with one competition event at a time, alternating competition style will be used, with one exhibition routine per team being permitted. 2. Dual meets with two competition events running simultaneously, block style competition will be used, with up to five exhibition routines per team per event being permitted. 3. Tri meets will have to competition events running simultaneously, block style competition will be used, with up to two exhibition routines per team per event being permitted.
