NORTH ALLEGHENY VARSITY BOWLING * BOYS: DIVISION CHAMPIONS * Photo by Bob Caldwell DAVIS NAMED MVP BY WPIBL Senior Kevin Davis was selected as the MVP of the regular season by the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Bowling League (WPIBL). The award is the most prestigious honor given by the league. Davis was also named to the first team All-WPIBL. During the season, the Tiger season bowled the highest individual game (300) and the highest series (753). The girls' MVP was Tara Kane from Hempfield High School. CONGRATULATIONS, KEVIN!!!!! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGER BOYS FINISH IN ELEVENTH PLACE IN PA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS The Tiger boys' team came in 11th out of 38 teams in the 2005 PA State Bowling Championships in North Versailles over the weekend. NA rolled a 5130 total for six games led by senior Steve Richey with a 233, senior Kevin Davis with a 228 and 201 and senior Matt Sinagra with a 203. The Tigers were the third highest team from the WPIBL and the eleventh place finish was the highest ever for an NA team. Governor Mifflin won the team championship with a victory over Plum in the finals. In the individual championships, Davis finished in a tie for 18th place out of 165 bowlers with a two-day total of 1183. To qualify for the individual finals, bowlers had to be in the top 40% in the state in average. Richey finished in 155th place with junior Alex Kocent in 158th. Craig Newham of Penn Hills defeated Ryan Porr of Exeter in a two-frame roll-off to win the individual championship In its first appearance ever in the girls' championship, the Lady Tigers finished in 22nd place out of 35 teams. NA totaled 4355 for the six games. Ephrata from Lancaster won the team championship defeating Hempfield in the finals. In the girls' individual championship, sophomore Kristen McCullough was 94th out of 145 bowlers that qualified for the finals. Hempfield's Jen Dalincandro won the girls' title by edging Chelsea Weik of Ephrata, 170-168, in the final. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * PENNSYLVANIA HIGH

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGER TEAMS COMPETE IN PA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS Both Tiger teams will bowl today in the Pennsylvania State High School Bowling Championships at the North Versailles Bowling Center on Saturday and Sunday. Thirty-eight boys' teams and thirty-two girls' squads will compete in the three-day tournament. Both NA teams qualified as a result of advancing to the WPIBL finals. Seniors Kevin Davis and Steve Richey, along with junior Alex Kocent, qualified for the boys' singles event. There will be 160 boys competing for the individual state title at the New Great Valley Lanes in North Versailles. Sophomore Kristen McCullough was the only Lady Tiger to qualify as one of 150 girls going for the title. Competition will take place from today through Sunday. The singles finals will be tonight at 8:00 pm at New Great Valley. The team finals are on Sunday morning beginning at 8:00 am at North Versailles Bowl. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS PLACE 10TH IN WPIBL CHAMPIONSHIPS The Lady Tigers finished in 10th place in the WPIBL Championships at the Brunswick Playmor Bowl in West Mifflin on Thursday afternoon. Our Lady of Sacred Heart won the championship after a two-frame playoff victory over Hempfield. Chartiers Valley was the third place team. All teams in the final advanced to the PA State Championship on March 11-13 at North Versailles Bowl. TIGERS FINISH 7TH IN WPIBL CHAMPIONSHIPS The Tiger boys' team finished in 7th place in the WPIBL Championships at Plaza Lanes in Natrona Heights on Wednesday afternoon. Baldwin took the title with Plum finishing in second place and Allderdice in third. All ten teams will advance to the PA State Championships next week. The top finishers from both the boys' and girls' compeition will qualify for the PA State Championship on March 11-13. The singles event will be held at New Great Valley Lanes in North Versailles, while the team competition will be at North Versailles Bowl. WPIBL BOYS'

* - OLSH won two frame playoff, 165-144 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * PLAYOFFS BEGIN ON THURSDAY FOR LADY TIGERS The Lady Tigers will begin playoff action on Thursday afternoon when they travel to Ambridge for a 3:30 pm match. NA finished in third place in the North Division while Ambridge was second. In the second round, the winners of tomorrow's matches will take on the section champions, North Hills, at a site to be determined. The match will be on Thursday, March 3. The NA boys' team received a bye as a result of winning the division title. NA will face the winner of the North Hills at Ambridge match that will be held tomorrow. The second round match will be on Wednesday, March 2, at a site to be determined. Winner of the WPIBL team championships will be determined by total pin count for the day. WPIBL PLAYOFF SCHEDULE
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGER TEAMS BLANK QUAKER VALLEY IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE The Tiger teams were victorious in their final regular season match against Quaker Valley at the Perry Park Lanes on Wednesday afternoon. With a 7-0 victory, the boys' team finished with a 7-3 record and at the top of the North Division standings. The girls also won by a 7-0 score to finish in third place with a 7-3 record. Senior Matt Sinagra paced the Tigers with a 634 series followed by senior Kevin Davis with a 611. Sinagra had a single game high of 235 while junior Alex Kocent rolled a 230. Davis had a 223 and a 215 on his way to the leading average in the North Division. Junior Jim Schultz recorded a 201 for the winning Tigers. For the Lady Tigers, sophomore Kristen McCullough had a 476 series followed closely by juniors Lauren Rzeznik and Lauren Schulties with 473s. McCullough posted a single game high of 222. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGER TEAMS SPLIT WITH AMBRIDGE Davis Records Perfect Game for Tigers! The Tigers split two matches with Ambridge on Wednesday afternoon. The boys' team downed the 'Bridgers, 5-2, while the Lady Tigers dropped a tough 4-3 decision. With the victory, the boys' moved back into first place with a 6-3 record, leading North Hills in points, 43-36. The Lady Tigers remained in third place with a 6-3 mark, but dropped two games behind both North Hills and Ambridge. Senior Kevin Davis rolled a perfect 300 game to lead the Tigers. Davis also posted games of 227 and 226 on his way to a season high series of 753. Junior Alex Kocent added a series of 587 followed closely by senior Steve Richey with a 586. Kocent posted single game scores of 226 and 202 while Richey rolled a 202 and a 201. Senior Matt Sinagra had a 249 while junior Jim Schultz bowled only one game but scored a 244. Sophomore Kristen McCullough led the way for the Lady Tigers with a 535 series and a single game high of 210. Junior Lauren Schulties followed with a 450 and junior Lauren Rzeznik posted a 443. The Tiger teams will close out the regular season when they host Quaker Valley at the Perry Park Lanes on Wednesday afternoon. Match time is scheduled for 3:30 pm. MATCH SUMMARIES

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS TAKE A PAIR FROM HOPEWELL Both the boys' and girls' bowling teams defeated Hopewell at the Perry Park Lanes on Wednesday afternoon. The boys improved their record to 5-3 with a 5-2 victory over the Vikings. The Lady Tigers pushed their record to 6-2 with a 7-0 shutout of Hopewell. Senior Kevin Davis led the way for the Tigers with a season high series of 688 and a season high single game of 248. Davis also rolled a pair of 220 games. Senior Steve Richey added a series of 616 with game highs of 246 and 202. Junior Alex Kocent posted games of 232 and 224 while junior Jim Schultz recorded a 200. For the Lady Tigers, sophomore Kristen McCullough led with a 483 series total followed by junior Lauren Schulties with a 448. Single game highs for the match were recorded by Kristen McCullough with a 167161 and 155 while Schulties and freshman Kelly McCullough both rolled 152s.
