File Photo Courtesy of Liz Bollens LANGHANS TOPS SCHOOL RECORD, TAKES SILVER AT PIAA CHAMPIONSHIPS Senior Kelly Langhans beat her own school record by over two seconds on her way to a second place finish in the 800 at the PIAA Class AAA Championships at Shippensburg University on Saturday. Langhans ran a 2:10.31 that was second only to Chanelle Price of Easton. In the 400, Langhans picked up the bronze medal with a time of 56.47. In the pole vault, senior Sean Gil placed second with a leap of 16-0 as Joe Berry of Hatboro-Horsham broke the state record in winning with a 16-3. Gil was just one inch off his own school record set last year. In the shot put, senior Garrett Larkin took bronze with a throw of 58-1. Larkin finished behind Wes Banks of Hempfield and Zane Parr of Williamsport. In Friday's finals, senior Sydney Schwab picked up a medal with a seventh place finish with a toss of 127-2. Senior Jade Hambrick was eleventh with a throw of 39-6. PCN television is featuring a replay of the events both today and tomorrow. Today's show begins at 2:00 pm while on Memorial Day, replays will be shown at 9:00 am and 7:00 pm. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LANGHANS, GIL TAKE GOLD AT WPIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS Senior Kelly Langhans set a school record in winning the 800 in 2:12.49 at the WPIAL Class AAA Individual Championships at Baldwin on Thursday. Langhans also took second in the 400. Senior Sean Gil won his first WPIAL title in the pole vault with a height of 15-3. Senior Garrett Larkin took third in the shot put while senior Jade Hambrick was third in the discus. The top four plus finishers 5-8 who meet the state qualifying standards qualified for the PIAA meet next week at Shippensburg University. For the boys, junior Justin Taylor finished sixth in the 3200 in a time of 9:29.71 which easily beat the qualifying time of 9:35.36. Junior Geoff Greco was fifth in the triple jump but fell short of qualifying by a little over an inch. Larkin was seventh in the discus, the 3200 relay team was also seventh, and senior Tom Keiser eighth in the shot put but none met the state standards to advance. For the Lady Tigers, the 1600 meter relay team and senior Maura Higgins in the triple jump both finished in fourth place to qualify. Sophomore Cody McCoy finished fifth in the 300 hurdles with a 45.98 but beat the qualifying time of 46.60. Junior Ginny Thistle was fifth in the shot put but her toss of 120-0 was two feet farther than the qualifying distance allowing her to advance. Senior Sydney Schwab took a sixth in the javelin with a throw of 125 feet that also qualified for states. Several other Lady Tigers were not as lucky. The 3200 relay team and Hambrick in the discus both took fifth places but did not meet the PIAA standards. Senior Kristen Zeleznik took sixth in the pole vault, junior Kelly Carioto eighth in the shot put, and McCoy eighth in the 100 hurdles but none was able to beat the qualifying time or distance. The PIAA Class AAA Championships will be held at Shippensburg University next week. Action is slated to get under way on Friday and continue through Saturday. We will post NA results when they become available. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS TAKE SECOND IN WPIAL The Lady Tigers finished second behind Norwin for the second consecutive year at the WPIAL Class AAA Team Championships at West Mifflin on Thursday afternoon. NA lost to Norwin, 81-69, but defeated Butler, 101-49, and Mt. Lebanon, 91-59, to take runnerup honors. The individual Class AAA championships will be held on Thursday at Baldwin. Field events are scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm with track events to follow at 3:00 pm. WPIAL TEAM TRACK

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * LANGHANS WINS 400, 800, HAMBRICK TAKES SHOT PUT AND DISCUS AT NORTHERN QUALIFIER Senior Kelly Langhans placed first in both the 400 and 800 at the Northern Qualifier at Butler on Tuesday afternoon. Senior Jade Hambrick was first in both the discus and shot put. Senior Garrett Larkin also was first in the shot put with senior Sean Gil tying for 1st in the pole vault. The girls' 1600 relay also took first place. Second place finishes were recorded by senior Maura Higgins in the triple jump, sophomore Cody McCoy in both hurdles races, and Kristen Zeleznik in the pole vault. The girls' 3200 relay team also came in second. Finishing third were Larkin in the discus, junior Dan Hoover in the 800, junior Dan Taylor in the 3200, junior Cecily Sunday in the pole vault, and junior Geoff Greco in the triple jump. The boys' 3200 relay team was third. The top eight finishers qualified for the WPIAL Class AAA Individual Championships to be held at Baldwin High School on Thursday, May 17. Junior Geoff Greco was third in the triple jump and junior Maria Nolan took third in the high jump. Other Tigers who placed on the track were Langhans who was second in the 400, sophomore Cody McCoy who captured fifth in the 300 hurdles, and junior Justin Taylor with 8th in the 3200. The girls' 3200 relay team finished in 4th place. In the field, senior Maura Higgins was fourth in the triple jump, senior Jade Hambrick took third in the shot put and fourth in the discus, senior Garrett Larkin who placed fifth in the shot put, senior Kristen Zeleznik sixth in the pole vault, senior Sydney Schwab eighth in the javelin, and junior Kelly Carioto eighth in the shot put. The WPIAL Individual Qualifying will take place on Tuesday. The Tigers will travel to Butler to compete in the Northern Qualifier with the meet time scheduled for 2:00 pm. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS WIN THREE TO ADVANCE TO
The Lady Tigers knocked off Moon, Latrobe and Canon-McMillan in the first round of the WPIAL Team Track Championships at Canon Mac on Wednesday afternoon to advance to the final. The boys' team defeated Connellsville and Moon but lost to host Canon-McMillan and were eliminated. In the girls' meet, NA downed Moon, 104-46, Latrobe, 101-49, and Canon-McMillan, 96-54, to advance. The boys' team defeated Connellsville, 106-44, and Moon, 102-48, but lost a close 79-71 decision to the Big Macs. The team finals will be held next Thursday at West Mifflin with meet time set for 3:30 pm. The Tigers will be at the Baldwin Invitational on Saturday with action scheduled to get under way at 12:00 noon. * - Meet Site WPIAL TEAM TRACK

* - Meet Site * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGER TEAMS GAIN DOUBLE WINS; LADY TIGERS WIN SECTION CHAMPIONSHIP; BOYS TIE FOR SECTION TITLE The boys and girls' teams were victorious over Butler and Pine-Richland at Butler on Tuesday afternoon. The boys downed the Rams, 118-32, and edged the Tornado, 78-72. With the wins, the boys finished in a three-way tie for first place. The Lady Tigers remained unbeaten and wrapped up the section title with wins over Pine-Richland, 102-48, and Butler, 104-46. In the meet against Pine-Richland, senior Kelly Langhans won both the 400 and 800 while junior Jackie Sokulski took the 1600 and 3200 to pace NA. Sophomore Cody McCoy was first in the 300 hurdles and second in the 100 hurdles. In the field, senior Maura Higgins won both the triple and long jumps while junior Maria Nolan captured the high jump, senior Kristen Zeleznik the pole vault, senior Jade Hambrick the discus, and senior Sydney Schwab the javelin. All three relay teams beat the Rams. Gaining second place points for NA were sophomore Grace Concelman in the 300 hurdles and Lindsay Holdcroft in the 800. In the field, senior Samantha Norris was second in the high jump, junior Cecily Sunday second in the pole vault, and junior Kelly Carioto second in the shot put. Against Butler, McCoy won both hurdles, Langhans the 400 and 800, and Sokulski the 1600 and 3200. In the field, Higgins took both the long and triple jumps, Hambrick the discus, Schwab the javelin, and Norris the high jump. Coming in second against the Tornado were Fusina in the 100 hurdles, Langhans in the 100, Holdcroft in the 800, and junior Laura Ochs in the 3200. Second in the field went to junior Ginny Thistle in both the discus and javelin, Nolan in the high jump, Zeleznik in the pole vault, freshman Becca Aul in the long jump, and Carioto in the shot. For the boys against Pine-Richland, sophomore Brian Austin led the way with firsts in the 100, 200 and long jump. Junior Geoff Greco won the 110 hurdles and set a new school record in winning the triple jump. Greco's leap of 46' 1 1/2" broke the record of 45-5 set by Antonson. Senior Garrett Larkin took both the shot and discus. Also winning on the track were senior Jacob Beatty in the 800, junior Matt Jacob in the 1600, junior Justin Taylor in the 3200, and sophomore Andrew McIlvried in the 400. The 1600 and 3200 relay teams were victorious. In the field, senior Sean Gil won the pole vault, junior Mike Fuhrman the javelin, and sophomore Brian Nimmo the high jump. Earning second place points against the Rams were Greco in the 300 hurdles, Taylor in the 1600, junior Dan Hoover in the 800, and junior Dan O'Brien in the 3200. Senior Mark Sestini captured second in both the long and triple jumps, senior Tim Lotz second in the shot, senior Steve Evankovich in the javelin, and sophomore Marcus Hambrick in the discus. In the close win over Butler, Greco won both hurdles and the triple jump to pace NA. Larkin was first in both the shot and discus, Jacob in the 1600, and Taylor in the 3200. Nimmo won the high jump, Gil the pole vault, and Fuhrman the javelin. Picking up valuable second place points were Beatty in the 800 and O'Brien in the 3200. In the field, second places were recorded by Austin in the long jump, Lotz in the shot, Hambrick in the discus, and Evankovich in the javelin. With the wins, the boys finished with a 7-1 record and a tie for first place with Butler and Seneca Valley in the section. The Lady Tigers improved to 8-0 and first place in section. The top two teams qualify for the WPIAL Team Championships scheduled for next week. Selected members of the Tiger squad will participate in the Penn Relays this weekend. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS DOMINATE IN WINNING
The Lady Tigers scored 112 points behind six first place finishes in the Butler Invitational on Saturday afternoon. NA earned four firsts in seven field events as they outdistanced second place Butler's 76 points. On the track, senior Kelly Langhans took the 400 with a time of 56.8 and the 4x400 relay team was also victorious. Sophomore Cody McCoy placed second in the 300 meter hurdles. In the field, junior Ginny Thistle won the discus with a toss of 121-11 while senior Jade Hambrick won the shot put with a distance of 41-1/2" and came in third in the discus. Junior Maria Nolan jumped 5-2 to tke the high jump, and senior Sydney Schwab won the javelin with a throw of 128-0. In addition, senior Kristen Zelsznik was second in the pole vault, Thistle was third in the javelin, and senior Maura Higgins took third in the triple jump. It was an impressive performance by the Lady Tigers. The Tiger teams will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel back to Butler. NA will meet both Butler and Pine-Richland in a 3:00 pm meet. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * GIL WINS POLE VAULT AT BUTLER
INVITATIONAL Senior Sean Gil won the pole vault at the Butler Invitational with a height of 15-0' to earn the only individual victory for the Tigers. Sophomore Brian Austin posted a 21-7" in the long jump to finish second while junior Justin Taylor was third in the 3200. The Tigers came in third in the team standings behind Erie McDowell and host Butler. The Lady Tigers will compete in the Butler Invitational today with meet time scheduled for 9:00 am. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * WPIAL TRACK AND FIELD - 2007 The Tiger teams will compete again in Class AAA along with 52 other teams. WPIAL track and field competition begins on March 27, 2007. The top two teams from each section will enter WPIAL team competition play. If two teams tie for second place, the winner of head-to-head competition will enter the tournament round. Multiple ties will be broken in the following manner: a. Section records of the
tied teams will be compiled. All multiple team meets scheduled in regular or post-season play will be scored as individual dual meets (e.g. each team competes against all the others). A tiebreaker system for dual meet regular season and dual meet post season meets has been established. Ties are broken in the following manner: a. greater number of first
place winners When three teams are scheduled in regular or post-season play, each will be scored as an individual dual meet. If each teams earns one win and one loss in the double scoring method, the first step of the tie breaker will be the total score for the day. If a tie persists, the regular steps of first second and third place finishers will be applied. The following qualifying standards have been established for boys and girls in class AAA for entry into the individual qualifying rounds:
