TIGER BOYS TAKE THIRD AT PIAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Tiger boys ran to a third place finish in the PIAA Championships on Saturday at the Parkview Cross Country Course in Hershey.  Sophomore Ryan Gil posted an 11th place finish to pace NA with senior Pat Morgan coming in 15th and senior Chase Broussard 16th.  NA finished behind champion North Penn and second place LaSalle College Prep. 

The Lady Tigers finished in 11th place in the state championship competition.  Senior Dana Preston led NA with a 34th place with sophomore Eleni Mermigas coming in at the 47th position.

The boys' team finished with the WPIAL and section championships with the girls capturing the section crown.

TIGER BOYS WIN FOURTH CONSECUTIVE WPIAL TITLE; GIRLS FINISH FOURTH

Sophomore Ryan Gil finished in third place to led the Tigers to their fourth straight WPIAL championship and their 21st overall.  NA placed five runners in the top 17 with senior Chase Broussard coming in seventh and senior Will Appman eighth.  Senior Pat Morgan was 11th and junior Eric Balaban 17th as NA finished far ahead of second place North Hills scoring 46 points to 130 for the Indians.  The title was the 21st in school history.

The Lady Tigers captured fourth place and a trip to the PIAA championships.  Sophomore Ali Greco was 27th to lead NA with senior Dana Preston coming in 34th and sophomore Sydney Micucci 35th. 

Both Tiger teams will compete in the PIAA championships next week in Hershey.

GIL LEADS TIGERS TO TRI-STATE TITLE;
GIRLS FINISH THIRD

Sophomore Ryan Gil took first place in the Tri-State Coaches Invitational at Cooper's Rock course at Slippery Rock on Thursday afternoon to lead the Tiger boys' team to the team title.  NA placed four runners in the top nine to easily capture first place.  Senior Will Appman was third, senior Pat Morgan eighth, and senior Chase Broussard ninth as the Tigers scored 36 points to second place Mt. Lebanon's 104.  Gil's time was the sixth fastest all-time on the Cooper's Lake course.

For the Lady Tigers, sophomore Ali Greco came in 25th, senior Dana Preston 30th, and sophomore Eleni Mermigas 31st as NA took third place in the team standings.  NA finished with 173 points with Latrobe winning the meet with 58 and Knoch coming in second with 122.

The Tri-State Coaches meet is usually a good indication of things to come in the WPIAL championships that will be held next Thursday on the same course.  The Tigers will go for their fourth consecutive WPIAL title at Cooper's Lake with meet time scheduled for 2:30 pm.

JV TEAMS COMPETE IN VARSITY
 CENTRAL CATHOLIC INVITATIONAL

The Tiger girls and boys JV teams competed in the Varsity "A" races at the Central Catholic Invitational on Saturday morning.  Both teams were competitive with the boys finishing in 10th place and the girls in 11th.

Leading the boys was senior Adam Jacob with a 42nd place, senior Andy Franze with a 51st and junior Luke Badaczewski with a 58th.  For the Lady Tigers, freshman Sophie Seel took 44th and freshman Shannon Wagner 45th while sophomore Paige Anderson finished in 54th position.

The varsity teams will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Cooper's Lake in Slippery Rock for the Tri-State Coaches Invitational.  This is the last big meet before the WPIAL Championships.  Meet time is scheduled for 3:30 pm.

TIGER TEAMS WIN SECTION TITLES WITH
TWIN WINS OVER SENECA VALLEY AND BUTLER

The girls and boys' teams finished the dual meet season with a double victory over Seneca Valley and Butler at the NAI course on Wednesday afternoon.  The boys downed Seneca Valley, 20-41, and Butler, 20-40 while the Lady Tigers defeated Seneca, 24-37, and Butler, 19-40.

Sophomore Ryan Gil took first with senior Chase Broussard in second while senior Will Appman finished in fifth place for the winning Tigers.  For the Lady Tigers, it was freshman Lizzie Appleton leading the way with a second place with sophomore Ali Greco in fourth.  Sophomore Eleni Mermigas came in 6th followed closely by senior Dana Preston in 7th.

With the wins, the NA teams finished undefeated in section meets with a 7-0 record.  The Tiger teams are scheduled to compete in the Central Catholic Invitational this Saturday at Schenley Oval.  Meet time is set for 10:00 am

BOYS WIN CARLISLE INVITATIONAL; GIRLS FINISH 6th

The Tiger boys' team defeated a strong field including top-ranked North Penn at the 16th Annual Carlisle Invitational on Saturday morning.  NA had five runners in the top 23 overall with sophomore Ryan Gil finishing third and senior Chase Broussard fifth.  Finishing out the top runners for NA were senior Will Appman in 14th, senior Pat Morgan in 18th and junior Eric Balaban in 23rd. 

The Lady Tigers completed their race with a 6th place finish.  Leading the way were freshman Lizzie Appleton with an 18th place while sophomore Ali Greco placed 34th, and senior Dana Preston, 40th.  Thomas Jefferson S&T won the race with Cumberland Valley second and Council Rock North third. 

The Tiger teams will be back in section action on Wednesday when they host Butler and Seneca Valley at the NAI course.  Meet time is scheduled for 3:30 pm.

TIGER TEAMS TOPPLE NORTH HILLS IN
KEY SECTION MEETS

Both NA teams were victorious over North Hills at the NAI course on Tuesday afternoon to remain unbeaten on the season.  The boys took the first three places led by sophomore Ryan Gil who set a new course record of 15:40.  Senior Chase Broussard was second and senior Will Appman third as the Tigers downed their neighborhood rivals, 17-38.

The Lady Tigers had seven runners in the top eight led by freshman Lizzie Appleton as they downed the Indians by a 16-46 score.  Sophomore Ali Greco was second, sophomore Sydney Micucci third, and senior Dana Preston fourth as NA dominated the race.

TIGER TEAMS WIN TWICE IN SECTION MEET

The Tiger teams were victorious at Hartwood Acres on Tuesday afternoon with twin wins against Pine-Richland and Hampton.  The NA boys downed Hampton, 18-43, and shut out Pine-Richland, 15-50.  Junior Eric Balaban finished first, sophomore Ryan Gil second, and senior Chase Broussard third as the Tigers took five of the top seven places.

Freshman Lizzie Appleton's second place finish led the Lady Tigers to a 20-43 victory over Hampton along with a 19-42 win over Pine-Richland.  The NA girls also placed five in the top seven with sophomore Ali Greco taking fourth and senior Alyssa TeKolste finishing in fifth place.

Next up for the Tiger teams will be rival North Hills on the road next Tuesday.  Meet time is scheduled for 3:30 pm.

TIGER TEAMS WIN SLIPPERY ROCK INVITATIONAL

Both Tiger teams did it again!   Rain on Saturday caused sloppy conditions, downpours, and mud but that did not stop NA!  On Saturday, both the boys' and girls' teams were victorious at the Slippery Invitational at the Cooper's Lake course.  Senior Chase Broussard led the boys' team over Mt. Lebanon and Butler.  NA placed three runners in the top six with sophomore Ryan Gil taking fourth and senior Will Appman finishing sixth.  For the Lady Tigers, freshman Lizzie Appleton captured eight place to led NA over Mt. Lebanon and Knoch.

  The Tiger teams will be back in action again on Tuesday when they travel to Hampton for section meets against Pine-Richland and Hampton.  The scheduled starting time is set for 3:30 pm.

Both Tiger teams earned victories in the section opening meets on Tuesday afternoon at Shaler.  The Lady Tigers downed Shaler, 15-50, and edged Knoch, 25-35.  Leading the way for NA were freshman Lizzie Appleton with a 3rd place, sophomore Ali Greco with fourth, and senior Dana Preston with fifth.  Following close behind were sophomore Sydney Micucci in sixth place and sophomore Eleni Mermigas in seventh.

The boys' team shut out Shaler, 15-50, and defeated Knoch, 18-40.  Senior Chase Broussard paced the Tigers with a first place finish with senior Will Appman right behind in second.  Senior Pat Morgan was fourth, sophomore Ryan Gil came in fifth, and senior Matt Robertson finished in sixth place.

Next up for the Tiger teams will be the Slippery Rock Invitational on Saturday morning with the meet starting time set for 8:30 am.

Both Tiger teams were victorious in the opening cross country meet of the season at Schenley Park on Saturday morning.  Senior Chase Broussard led a pack of five NA runners in the top 17 as they outpointed North Hills and Mt. Lebanon to take the title.  Freshman Lizzie Appleton was the top NA runner as they came in ahead of Norwin and Mt. Lebanon.

The boys' team showed great balance and team strength with Broussard finishing sixth, junior Eric Balaban eighth, senior Will Appman tenth, sophomore Ryan Gil 13th and senior Patrick Morgan 17th.  For the Lady Tigers, Appleton was 13th followed closely by sophomore Ali Greco in 15th and sophomore Kelley Harrington in 16th.

The Tiger teams will begin section competition on Tuesday when they travel to Shaler to meet the Titans.  Meet time is scheduled for 3:30 pm.

2008 WPIAL CROSS COUNTRY

The Tigers and Lady Tigers will once again compete in Class AAA of the WPIAL.  In the boys' division, there are 51 teams while there are 49 in the girls' competition.  Section plaques will be awarded to the winner of each section based on the best section record.  Ties for first place will be declared co-champions and both will receive a plaque. 

Scoring in dual meets will be conventional.  The top seven finishers will be counted with five of them scoring and two to displace.

The WPIAL individual and team championships will be held at Coopers Lake (Slippery Rock) on Thursday, October 23, 2008.  The PIAA Championships will be conducted on Saturday, November 1, 2008.
