NORWIN DOWNS LADY TIGERS, 3-0,
IN WPIAL CHAMPIONSHIP

To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

The Lady Tigers dropped a 3-0 decision to the Norwin Lady Knights in the WPIAL Class AAA championship game at Fox Chapel on Monday night.  Norwin scored twice in the second half to break open a close game.  Senior goalie Steph Anderson was outstanding in goal for NA stopping a penalty stroke early in the second half to keep the NA deficit at one goal.

Norwin came out strong at the beginning of the game and earned a penalty corner just 2:12 into the contest.  The NA defense was able to clear the ball and keep the game scoreless.  Later in the half, senior midfielder Caroline Torie made a long run but her attempt into the circle was cleared.  Less than a minute later, the Lady Knights were given another penalty corner.  This time, Norwin converted.  Anderson made a good stop on the initial shot and got a pad on the rebound by Brea Mirandou but the ball still rolled into the net.  Norwin took a 1-0 lead at the 9:56 mark.  The Lady Knights continued the pressure recording three consecutive penalty corners.  Anderson was able to make two key saves, and the NA defense of junior Lauren Shideler, junior Sarah Boselovic and freshman Paige Vanerstrom was able to clear the rebounds.  With 6:30 left, Anderson had to make another good save on Evie Romero from right in front of the net. A minute later, the Lady Tigers got a two on one with freshman Carley Thieret and  junior Kellie Roach. Roach broke free in from the left side, but Norwin goalie Jacki Gigliotti was able to make the save to keep the Norwin lead at 1-0.  With 3:30 left, senior midfielder Liz Herb made a good steal in Norwin territory, but her shot was blocked by Norwin defender Becca Babyak.  Neither team had a scoring opportunity in the final minutes as Norwin took the 1-0 advantage to the intermission.

CAMUT'S GOAL IN SECOND OVERTIME SENDS LADY TIGERS TO CHAMPIONSHIP GAME AGAINST NORWIN

To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

Senior forward Andrea Camut scored with 9:27 remaining in the second overtime period to give the Lady Tigers a 1-0 victory at Peters Township on Wednesday night.  The winning goal came off a penalty corner with senior midfielder Liz Herb earning the assist.  Senior Steph Anderson and the NA defense had kept the Lady Indians off the board through regulation time and one overtime period to set the stage for the game winner.

Peters Township came out strong and dominated the game in the early going.  Anderson was forced to make a diving save of a shot by Jules Makrinos just 1:11 into the contest.  The Lady Indians continued to pressure NA and forced three penalty corners in the first nine minutes.  The Lady Tiger defense kept the Indians off the board thanks to the defensive work of sophomore Lauren Shideler, junior Sarah Boselovic, senior Alli Schwer and freshman Paige Vanerstrom as they continually cleared the ball out of the circle.  Peters Township earned another corner with 16:42 remaining that was cleared also.  At this point, NA coach Jen Diaz called a time out.  After the stoppage, the Lady Tigers gradually began to exert some offensive pressure.  With 8:01 left, Herb had a good chance from in front of the goal but her shot was blocked.  Although NA had a territorial edge down the stretch, neither team had another scoring chance until late in the half.  Jules Femiani broke free on a long run for the Lady Indians but was caught from behind by Shideler before she could get off a good shot.  In the last minute, Anderson robbed Femiani to keep the game scoreless at halftime.

Neither team was able to threaten during the first eight minutes of the second half.  At the 8:22 mark, Shideler blocked a pass in the circle to stop an Indian scoring chance.  Over the next three minutes, the Lady Tigers took over the game forcing five consecutive penalty corners.  On the first, freshman forward Carley Thieret shot wide of the goal.  On the second corner, a shot by sophomore forward Sophie Batton was blocked in front of the net.  On the next chance, Herb had a good chance but her shot was stopped by PT goalie Rachel Sunday and the rebound was cleared.  The Lady Tigers were unable to get good shots off for the remainder of the corners as the game stayed scoreless.  NA continued to keep pressure on the Lady Indian defense over the next several minutes until PT coach Kristen Slemmer called a time out with 6:24 remaining in the half.  At the 5:45 mark, the Lady Indians forced a corner with Anderson having to make a good stop on the ensuing shot.  Peters Township continued to keep the ball in the circle and forced three straight long hits as NA kept pushing the ball over the goal line.  With 4:19 left, the Lady Indians earned another corner but could not convert.  In the last minute, NA came back with Camut sending a shot wide.  Regulation time ended with the game still scoreless.

Early in the first overtime period, Allison Crawford forced Anderson to make another good save with Peters Township getting a long hit after the deflection went over the goal line just 1:10 into the period.  Two minutes later, Thieret had a chance after a long run but shot wide left of the Indian net.  At the 4:11 mark, Anderson made a diving save and Crawford shot the ball just wide of the open net on the rebound.  A minute and a half later, Camut made a long run but could not get off a good shot.  Neither team was able to threaten until the last minute.  NA moved the ball into the circle, but Camut's attempt was blocked as time ran out.  After 75 minutes of play, it remained a scoreless tie.

Early in the second overtime, the Indians' Kayla Howard broke in from the left side but her shot went wide to the left of the NA net at the 1:19 mark.  Two and a half minutes later, Howard had another chance, but Anderson was there to make the save.  The Lady Tigers then forced the ball into the offensive end with a penalty corner being called.  On the corner, Camut inserted the ball to Herb who faked a shot and passed back to Camut to the left of the PT goal.  The Lady Tiger senior then blasted a shot into the far corner to give NA the hard earned 1-0 victory.

It was a great team effort against a Peters Township team that came into the game as the Section 2 champions and with an overall record of 15-0-1.  Good play in the midfield by Herb, senior Caroline Torie, and junior Michelle Cotter allowed NA to control play for periods of time throughout the contest.  Anderson was again superb in net for the winning Lady Tigers.  Statistically, Peters Township earned nine penalty corners to eight for NA.  For scoring the winning goal and for her overall play, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Andrea Camut as the Player of the Game.

With the win, NA advanced to the championship game against Norwin on Monday night at Fox Chapel.  The teams split two games during the regular season with NA winning at Norwin, 2-1, and the Lady Knights winning at Newman Stadium, 3-1.  The North Allegheny Sports Network will be there to broadcast the game LIVE on the internet beginning with the pre-game show at 7:30 pm with game time scheduled for 7:45 pm.

LADY TIGERS ADVANCE TO WPIAL PLAYOFFS

Photo Gallery

The Lady Tigers finished in second place in Section 1 and will advance to the WPIAL playoffs next Wednesday against Peters Township.  On Thursday night, NA defeated Fox Chapel, 3-0, in a non-section game to complete their regular season.  Pine-Richland gave NA a helping hand with a 1-1 overtime tie with Penn-Trafford.

The Tigers came out hard against Fox Chapel but were not in synch at the beginning of the game.  NA Coaches Jen Diaz and Allison Fayfich called a time out just five minutes into the contest to regroup.  The NA defense of freshman Paige Vanerstrom, junior Maria Frantz, junior Sarah Boselovic, and senior Allie Schwer then played well throughout of the half allowing just one penalty corner.  At the 11:16 mark, freshman Carley Thieret scored on a rebound to give NA a 1-0 advantage.  The Lady Tigers scored again with less than a minute remaining in the half.  On their eighth corner of the half, on an insert from senior forward Andrea Camut, senior captain Liz Herb sent a direct shot into the goal.  NA took a 2-0 lead into the intermission.

Early in the second half, Fox Chapel was able to create two quick penalty corners, but the NA defense was able to stop any scoring attempts.  In the next several minutes, the NA midfield stepped it up possessing the ball more effectively and allowing the Lady Tigers to force two corners.  On the second corner, Camut inserted to Herb who scored her second of the night on a direct shot to give NA a 3-0 lead with 17:48 remaining.  The Foxes continued to attack down the left side but were stopped by Shideler and Schwer.  NA had to play a player down from the 7:09 mark on because of a card for physical play.  In spite of being short a player, the Lady Tigers took the play to the Foxes and continued the offensive pressure.  The game ended with NA completing the 3-0 victory.

The Lady Tigers recorded 15 shots on goal and ten offensive corners in the victory.  In goal, senior Steph Anderson posted six saves with sophomore Antoinette Avila stopping three additional shots to share in the shutout.    The NA coaches are extremely proud of the progress the team has made over the course of the regular season.  NA had only five returning varsity players.  Coach Diaz said, "To see such a diverse team come together as solid as they are playing at this moment is every coaches dream.  It is the heart and determination of the players that makes a team achieve this standard."  With NA headed to the WPIAL playoffs, Coach Diaz added, "The team has great chemistry to take with them into the post-season".

In the final section standings, NA was second behind Norwin with a 7-3 record while P-T came in third with a 6-3-1 mark.  The Lady Tigers will travel to Peters Township on Wednesday night in the semifinals of the WPIAL Class AAA tournament.  The North Allegheny Sports Network will be there to broadcast the game LIVE on the internet beginning with the pre-game show at 6:45 pm.  Game time is scheduled for 7:00 pm.

LADY TIGERS EDGE PINE-RICHLAND, 1-0,
TO STAY ALIVE FOR PLAYOFF BERTH

Photo Gallery

The Lady Tigers downed Pine-Richland, 1-0, at Newman Stadium on Tuesday night in the final section game of the season.  It was Senior Night and two seniors collaborated on the only game of the game as Caroline Torie scored on pass from midfielder Liz Herb.  The first half goal stood up as NA took the one-goal victory.

With all the seniors getting the nod to start on Senior Night, the Lady Tigers came out strong and ready to play.  NA was able to maintain possession in the offensive end for most of the game.  The midfield of Torie and Andrea Camut, along with sophomore Sophie Batton and freshman Carley Thieret was able to stop Pine-Richland's offensive momentum allowing the forwards to go to work.  According to Coach Jen Diaz, "Sophie Batton had her most explosive game yet on the right side, maintaining solid possession and finding her teammates for stick-to-stick passes."  In the first half, the Lady Tigers forced six offensive corners before Herb connected with Torie to give NA the 1-0 advantage with 9:45 remaining.  In the first half, senior goalie Steph Anderson had four saves.

In the second half, the Lady Tigers created an offensive corner in the first minute but could not score again.  After the initial attempt, the game became a midfield battle, with NA getting several good scoring chances.  In the middle of the half, the Lady Tigers had three consecutive corners but were unable to score.  The NA left side of Thieret, sophomore Lauren Shideler, and senior Alli Schwer shut down the Rams and continued to send the ball into the offensive circle.  With two minutes left, Pine-Richland picked up the pressure trying for the tying goal.  The NA defense of freshman Paige Vanerstrom, junior Sarah Boselovic and Schwer were able to stymie the Ram offense.  With less than one minute remaining, the Rams got off a good shot that Anderson had to go down to save.  With the NA senior goalie on the ground, Vanerstrom sent the ball out to Batton to preserve the victory.

Anderson finished the game with 12 saves.  On offense, NA created 12 corners and finished with 23 shots on goal.  The NA defense shut down five Ram corners.  Coach Diaz said, "It was a total team effort and a great example of perseverance, heart and desire to continue the NA tradition of field hockey excellence."

With the win, NA completed section play with a final record of 7-3.  In order to make the playoffs, the Lady Tigers need Pine-Richland to defeat Penn-Trafford tonight as section play concludes.  NA will host Fox Chapel tonight at Newman Stadium in a non-section contest as they complete their regular season.  Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.

LADY TIGERS HOLD OFF MT. LEBANON, 2-1

To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

Senior forward Andrea Camut scored twice to lead the Lady Tigers to a 2-1 non-section victory over Mt. Lebanon at Newman Stadium on Friday night.  NA dominated the game forcing 20 penalty corners to just five for the Blue Devils.  The Lady Tiger midfield, led by senior Liz Herb, junior Michelle Cotter, and senior Caroline Torie controlled play for most of the game and gave the NA forwards numerous opportunities.

The Lady Tigers took control of the game from the outset forcing four corners in the first five minutes.  Camut had two scoring chances in the early going with the first shot blocked and the second sent wide of the goal.  At the 4:46 mark, Herb drilled a hard shot that was stopped by the Lebo goalie and rolled just wide of the net.  Three minutes later, Camut had another good chance but the shot was blocked.  After an NA shot hit the goal post, the Lady Tigers were able to take the lead.  On another corner, Camut took a pass from Herb but had her shot blocked.  The Tiger senior took the rebound and made a great move along the goal line and fired the ball into the corner of the net to give NA a 1-0 lead at the 10:43 mark of the half.  A little over a minute later, Mt. Lebanon forced their first penalty corner of the game, but the NA defense cleared the attempt.  At the 13:10 mark, Torie drove a hard shot that was stopped by the Lebo goalie.  Less than a minute later, freshman forward Carley Thieret had a chance from the left side but shot wide of the goal.  With 17:23 remaining, NA continued to pressure the Lebo goal forcing another pair of corners.  After Herb had a shot blocked in the circle, Thieret shot wide again from close range.  Herb had another chance with 10:29 remaining in the half but missed the net.  With NA forcing play, Mt. Lebanon was able to get a 2 on 1 breakaway.  Senior goalie Steph Anderson made two stops of Lebo shots, but Emily Sholder was able to put in a rebound to tie the game at 1-1 with 7:38 remaining in the half.  It was the first Blue Devil scoring chance of the game.  With 4:42 remaining, Camut sent a pass to sophomore forward Sophie Batton who was stopped by the Lebo goalie.  In the last minute and a half, Mt. Lebanon forced a pair of corners.  Anderson had to make a good save in the last minute to keep the game tied at 1-1 as the teams went to the intermission.

Early in the second half, the Lady Tigers resumed where they had left off as they pressured the Lebo defense.  Torie sent a pass on the left side to Thieret who drove a hard shot that was stopped by the Mt. Lebanon goalie just 1:09 into the half.  Two minutes later, Batton had a shot from right in front of the goal off a corner but was stopped again by the goalie.  NA then forced two corners and took the lead.  Cotter found Camut open at the left corner of the net and the NA forward deflected the ball into the goal for her second of the night to give the Lady Tigers a 2-1 advantage at the 4:07 mark of the half.  NA continued to pressure the Lebo defense and earned two more corners beginning at the 7:35 mark.  Thieret came in on the left side and just missed as she hit the side of the net at the 10:46 mark.  Less than three minutes later, Camut almost scored again but her shot went just wide to the right of the Lebo net.  At the midway point of the half, Thieret sent a long pass to junior forward Kellie Roach but the play was stopped by the Lebo defense.  With 13:10 remaining, Thieret had another chance off a corner but the shot was blocked.  After a Mt. Lebanon time out, it was NA that forced the issue with three straight corners starting with 12:23 left.  The Lady Tigers sent three consecutive shots with Herb getting the best chance, but again the Lebo goalie was able to keep the ball out of the net.  With 8:50 left, the Blue Devils tried another long pass but sophomore defender Lauren Shideler was able to get back in time to break up the play.  With 4:50 remaining, Torie again sent Thieret in on the left side but her shot was stopped.  After a Lebo corner was blocked by the NA defense, Torie had another chance but shot wide right with 2:00 minutes left.  In the last minute, the Blue Devils had a chance for the equalizer off a corner but the Tiger defense put the ball out of the circle as time ran out.  In spite of the overwhelming nature of the contest, the final score showed the Lady Tigers defeated Mt. Lebanon, 2-1.

It was a great team effort by the Lady Tigers.  NA had chance after chance because of the pressure in the offensive end.  Only a good performance by the Lebo goalie kept the score close.  In addition, the Lady Tiger defense, led by Shideler, freshman Paige Vanerstrom and junior Sarah Boselovic kept the Lebo scoring chances to a minimum.  Anderson was able to make the saves on the few Mt. Lebanon scoring opportunities.  For her efforts at both ends of the field, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Andrea Camut as the Player of the Game.

With the win, NA improved their record against WPIAL teams to 7-3.  The Lady Tigers will complete section play on Tuesday night when they host Pine-Richland at Newman Stadium with game time at 7:30 pm.  NA needs a win along with help to earn a playoff spot in the upcoming WPIAL playoffs.

LADY TIGERS HAMMER HEMPFIELD, 5-1

Photo Gallery

With their playoff hopes on the line, the Lady Tigers put together a good performance at the Fort Allen Elementary School Field in Hempfield to defeat the Spartans, 5-1.  The Lady Tiger seniors carried the day as forward Andrea Camut scored twice with midfielders Liz Herb and Caroline Torie adding single tallies.  Freshman Carley Thieret got NA off to a good start with the first goal of the game.

Coaches Jen Diaz and Allison Fayfich deemed the Hempfield game "Senior Night".  The game would determine whether or not NA still had a chance at WPIAL post season play.  According to Coach Diaz, "On the grass and in the rain, the team got themselves ready to fight and fight they did."  Early in the game, the Lady Tigers worked the ball into the Hempfield circle and created four quick corners.  At the 19:40 mark, Thieret was able to find the net through a group of players in front of the goal as NA took a 1-0 lead.  Three minutes later, Senior Captain Caroline Torie scored her first goal of the season again through a maze of players to extend the margin to 2-0.  The Lady Tigers were not finished as they forced three more offensive corners.  At the 9:21 mark, sophomore Sophie Batton sent a pass across the circle to Camut who tallied her first goal of the night to make it a 3-0 game.  NA kept the pressure on adding another offensive corner before halftime.  The Tiger defense, led by senior Alli Schwer, junior Sarah Boselovic, and freshman Paige Vanerstrom kept Hempfield off the board.  Senior goalie Steph Anderson recorded four saves, and sophomore defender Lauren Shideler added another defensive save to give her a total of 12 so far this season.  The Lady Tigers took a 3-0 lead to the intermission.

At halftime, the NA coaches challenged the Lady Tigers to not let up and to keep the pressure on the Spartans.  The seniors again took the lead with Herb getting her first goal of the night by slamming a rebound past the Hempfield GK.  With a 4-0 lead, sophomore goalie Antoinette Avila came into the game for NA.  At the 15:00 mark, Hempfield got a corner off a breakaway.  The Spartans were able to convert to cut the margin to 4-1.  NA answered quickly forcing five offensive corners before the Lady Tigers scored again.  Camut was able to take a pass from Torie and score her second of the game to give NA a commanding 5-1 advantage.  NA continued to pressure the Hempfield goal collecting three more offensive corners.  Junior Rachel Laurent had three good chances but was denied.  Sophomore Amanda "Spike" Worsley also had some chances as time ran out.  Avila was able to collect two saves in her time in the cage.  NA finished with 19 offensive corners as they dominated the game.

With the win, the Lady Tigers improved their section record to 6-3.  They are in a battle with Norwin and Penn-Trafford for the two playoff spots available.  NA will host Mt. Lebanon tomorrow night in Middle School Appreciation night.  Three games will be played with the Middle School team playing at 6:00 pm, the JV squad at 7:15 pm, and the varsity at 8:30 pm.  The North Allegheny Sports Network will be there to broadcast the varsity game LIVE on the internet beginning with the pre-game show at 8:15 pm.

NORWIN'S THREE SECOND-HALF GOALS
TAKE DOWN LADY TIGERS, 3-1

To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

Sophomore forward Sophie Batton had given NA a 1-0 halftime lead, but the Norwin Lady Knights came back with three goals in the second half to down the Lady Tigers, 3-1, at Newman Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Lady Tigers came out strong and had a number of early chances to take the lead.  NA forced three penalty corners in the first 3:35 but could not score.  At the 5:53 mark, senior midfielder Liz Herb attempted a penalty stroke, but her shot at the right corner of the net was stopped by Norwin goalie Jacki Gigliotti.  NA continued to control play with freshman forward Carley Thieret making a long run into the circle at the 11:01 mark, but she could not get off a good shot.  The Lady Tigers finally converted off a penalty corner at the 13:44 mark of the half.  Senior forward Andrea Camut sent the ball in to Herb who returned it to Camut at the left side of the goal.  Camut's initial attempt was stopped by Gigliotti, but Batton was there at the right side of the goal to tap it in and give NA a 1-0 advantage.  NA kept up the pressure and Herb came close to scoring again off a corner at the 14:56 mark.  Up until this point in the game, Norwin was unable to exert much offensive pressure.  The Knights were able to force a corner with 8:06 remaining but could not score.  With six minutes remaining, Norwin began to pressure the NA goal.  With 3:57 left, NA senior goalie Steph Anderson made a good save and sophomore back Lauren Shideler was able to clear the rebound.  In the remaining time, the Knights sent several balls into the circle but could not get off any good scoring chances against the NA defense.  The Lady Tigers took a 1-0 lead to the intermission.

Early in the second half, the Lady Tigers came close to extending the lead when they sent a bouncing ball into the circle.  Batton was unable to control the ball and could not get off a good shot just 1:11 into the half.  The Lady Knights countered and tied the game at 1-1 on a great spin move in the circle by Evie Romeo at the 2:07 mark.  A little over two minutes later, Brea Mirandou tipped in a pass from Lauren Dittman to put Norwin on top, 2-1, at the 4:43 mark of the half.  After the Knights could not score off a corner at the 8:49 mark, the Lady Tigers came back to force a corner at the 10:55 mark.  Although NA did not score, they began to exert offensive pressure in the next several minutes but could not score.  The Lady Knights countered again less than two minutes later when Mirandou broke in on the left side.  Anderson came out and forced the Norwin forward to shoot wide of the open net.  The Lady Tigers had several chances at the equalizer over the next three minutes.  Thieret made another nice run down the left side and sent a pass into the circle with 13:00 remaining.  With 10:51 left, midfielder Michelle Cotter sent a centering pass in from the right side, but again the NA forwards could not get off a scoring attempt.  A little over a minute later, Romeo raced down the middle into the circle but the NA defense prevented a shot.  A minute later, Anderson had to make a pair of good saves to keep the deficit at one goal.  The Knights were able to score with 8:27 left on another deflection by Mirandou who scored her second goal of the game to give Norwin a 3-1 lead.  With 5:50 left, the Lady Tigers forced a corner.  When Norwin goalie Gigliotti came out of the net and dove after a loose ball, Camut lifted a shot over her toward the open net, but the ball rolled short and did not make it into the net.  With 2:29 remaining, Thieret had a chance but shot wide of the goal.  The Knights were able to hold off NA over the remaining time to take home the 3-1 victory.

It was a tough home loss for the Lady Tigers who had chances throughout the game but were unable to score after Batton's goal.  NA had a total of seven penalty corners to three for Norwin.  For her efforts, both defensively and offensively, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Michelle Cotter as the Player of the Game.

With the loss, the NA section record fell to 5-3 on the season.  The Lady Tigers will travel to Hempfield this afternoon for a 4:00 pm section game.  The game has been moved from Hempfield Stadium to the Fort Allen Elementary School Field.  The JV game will follow the varsity contest.

PENN-TRAFFORD DEFEATS LADY TIGERS AGAIN, 1-0

For the second time this season, Penn-Trafford edged the Lady Tigers, 1-0, this time at the home of the Warriors on Friday afternoon.  NA had the better of the play throughout most of the game, but P-T was able to score midway through the first half and it held up for the win.

The Lady Tigers had traveled to Harrison City in hopes of gaining a measure of revenge for the loss in the opening game of the season.  NA dominated play in the offensive end throughout most of the half but could not score.  With 10:25 remaining, the Warriors were able to take advantage of one of their few chances and took the lead with a strong shot.  The teams went to the intermission with P-T holding the 1-0 advantage.

Neither team scored in the second half in spite of the Lady Tigers again controlling play.  The NA defense of junior Sarah Boselovic, senior Allie Schwer, junior Maria Frantz, sophomore Lauren Shideler and freshman Paige Vanerstrom did a great job of regaining possession and the getting the ball back to the forwards.  The NA offense created eight penalty corners and had ten shots on goal but could not finish.  Senior goalie Steph Anderson ended the day with seven saves while Shideler added another defensive save to bring her season total to eight.

With the loss, the NA section record fell to  5-2 on the season.  The Lady Tigers will host Norwin on Tuesday night in a key section battle.  The North Allegheny Sports Network will be there to broadcast the game LIVE on the internet beginning with the pre-game show at 7:15 pm.  Coach Jen Diaz will be featured in an interview in the pre-game show.  Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.

CAMUT'S TWO GOALS LEAD LADY TIGERS
OVER LATROBE, 2-0

On a rainy October afternoon, senior forward Andrea Camut scored a pair of goals, one in each half, to lead the Lady Tigers to a 2-0 victory at Latrobe on Wednesday afternoon.  The NA defense held the Wildcats to just six shots, all of which were stopped by senior goalie Steph Anderson.

With rain starting at game time, playing conditions on the grass field deteriorated quickly.  The NA offensive put pressure on Latrobe from the out creating six penalty corners in the first half.  Good work by forwards sophomore Sophie Batton, Camut, freshman Carley Thieret, along with midfielder Liz Herb, kept the ball in the offensive end before Camut finally scored right before halftime.  NA took the 1-0 lead to the intermission.

In the second half, the Lady Tigers kept up the offensive pressure.  Camut tallied her second goal of the game 6:20 into the half.  The NA midfield of junior Michelle Cotter, sophomore Rachel Laurent, freshman Paige Vanerstrom and senior Caroline Torie continued to control play and dictate the momentum of the game.  In the back, it was the defense of junior Maria Frantz, senior Allie Schwer, junior Sarah Boselovic, and sophomore Lauren Shideler held off the Wildcats for the remainder of the game allowing Anderson to record the shutout.  Coach Jen Diaz said, "Coach Allison Fayfich and I were happy with NA's effort, ability to adjust their style of play to the game conditions, and total team effort towards the victory."

With the win, the NA section record improved to 5-1 on the year.  The Lady Tigers will travel to Penn-Trafford for another 4:00 pm section contest.

2008 WPIAL FIELD HOCKEY

The Lady Tigers will compete again in Class AAA of the WPIAL along with eleven other teams.  The top two teams in each section will enter the WPIAL Tournament.  All playoff entries will be determined by section record only and will be determined by the following method:  Three points for a win and one point for a tie.  Ties for first place will not be broken and all tied teams will feceive a section winner's plaque.  in the event of a multiple team tie for second, third or fourth place, head-to head competition will be used to break the tie.

EXAMPLE:

Team A is clearly first.  Teams B,C, and D are all tied with identical section records for second place.  In the head-to-head competition between the three teams, Team B is 3-1, Team C is 2-2, and Team D is 1-3.  Team B is the second place tem and is entered in the tournament.

Failure to break the tie by applying the point system will result in applying a point differential system to a plus or minus five to all section games played.  If this procedure does not break the tie a playoff game will be held.

Duration of the game shall be a maximum of sixty minutes played in two equal halves.  All regular season games ending in a tie will be subject to the following Overtime Procedures:
1.  Prior to the overtime period there shall be a 5 minute intermission/
2.  The home team captain calls the coin toss and the winner chooses choice of goal or to take possession of the ball.
3.  Teams will be limited to 6 field players and a goalkeeper.
4.  If a player was disqualified (red card) during the regulation game, that team must play short throughout the overtime.  If a player was suspended (yellow card) the team shall play short until the suspension time is completed.

The overtime will be 15 minutes "SUDDEN VICTORY"
There will be unlimited substitution.  There will be no team time outs, even if a team has unused time outs.  Regular season games tied after the 15 minutes overtime period are recorded as a tie.
