by Corky Semler

The girls' water polo team defeated McDowell (first time is school history!), Fairview and Villa in the McDowell Cup tournament on Friday and Saturday in Erie to take an early season lead in the Pennsylvania Western Division.  The Lady Tigers lost to perennial state power Wilson to take second in the tournament.  NA downed McDowell, 8-7, in overtime, Villa Maria, 20-5, and Fairview twice, 13-10 and 10-6.  Sophomore Meghan Mahoney scored 15 goals to pace the Lady Tigers.

The boys' water polo team defeated McDowell, 15-8, and Cathedral Prep, 14-8, to also take an early season lead in the Western Division.  NA lost to number one ranked Wilson, 13-6, in the semi-finals of the tournament.  Sophomore Zach Presto led NA in scoring with 10 goals for the weekend.

Head Coach Rob Semanchik was very pleased with the overall team play and defensive abilities of his young teams.  "They were moving the ball well offensively and getting off a tremendous amount of shots as a result.  Both teams played very well in the second half of all their games."

The teams get back to training on Monday in preparation for the "Screamin' Eagle" Tournament at Cumberland Valley High School next Friday and Saturday.
