Photo Courtesy of Coach Rittman TIGERS FINISH SEVENTH IN WPIAL SEMI-FINALS The Tigers came in seventh in the WPIAL Division I Semi-Finals at Castle Hills GC in New Castle on Wednesday. Junior Clif Dietrick led NA with a 78 while senior Zack Wessel recorded a 79. Senior Jake Wrigley posted an 80 and junior Alex Hendrickson an 81 for the Tigers. The seventh place finish ended the season for the Tigers as only the top three teams advanced to the finals. NA completed the season with a 15-3 overall record and the section championships. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * WRIGLEY SHOOTS 84 IN WPIAL FINALS In brutal conditions with a wind chill of 42 and winds howling at 20-50 miles per hour, senior Jake Wrigley shot an 84 at the WPIAL Finals at Butler CC on Wednesday afternoon. The Tiger senior was two strokes short of the cut, however, to determine qualifiers for the PIAA Regionals. The Section Champion Tiger team will play in the WPIAL Team Semifinals next week on Wednesday at a site yet to be determined. WPIAL CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
* - won on second playoff hole TIGERS CRUSH NORTH HILLS, The Tigers easily defeated rival North Hills, 187-214, in the section finale at Diamond Run GC on Tuesday afternoon to wrap up the section championship. Five Tigers were under the 40 mark with seniors Troy Novak and Zack Wessel leading the way with one over 36s. Senior Jake Wrigley and junior Alex Hendrickson followed with 38s while junior Clif Dietrick added 39. Wrigley came back from adversity by finishing par, birdie, birdie, bogie, and eagle. With the win, the Tigers completed their season with a 12-2 section record, a 15-3 overall record for the season. NA will begin play in the WPIAL team playoffs next week. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS BEST BUTLER, 200-214, FOR The Tigers defeated Butler, 200-214, at Diamond Run GC on a sunny but cold autumn afternoon to pick up their fourth straight victory. Senior Zack Wessel shot a one over 36 to pace NA with four NA golfers --- seniors Troy Novak and Jake Wrigley and juniors Clif Dietrick and Alex Hendrickson --- all posting 41s for the winning Tigers. With the win, NA improved their section record to 11-2, the overall mark to 14-3 on the season. The Tigers need a win over North Hills on Tuesday to clinch first place in the section. Match time is scheduled for 3:30 pm at Diamond Run. MATCH SUMMARY
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS TOP SENECA VALLEY FOR SECOND TIME, 201-204 The Tigers defeated Seneca Valley, 201-204, in the cold and wind at Diamond Run GC on Wednesday afternoon to take over first place in section. Senior Jake Wrigley and junior Alex Hendrickson both shot 39s to pace NA. Junior Clif Dietrick posted a 40 and freshman John McCabe a 41 for the winning Tigers. With the win, the Tigers improved their section record to 10-2, the overall mark to 13-3 on the season. NA will host Butler this afternoon in a 3:30 pm section match at Diamond Run. The Tigers need to beat Butler today and North Hills next week to close out the section title. MATCH SUMMARY
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * WRIGLEY ADVANCES TO WPIAL FINAL On a brutal day for golf, senior Jake Wrigley shot an 82 at the Pittsburgh National GC on Tuesday afternoon in the WPIAL semifinals. The score was just enough to make the cut and qualify for the finals next week at Butler CC. Senior Zack Wessel won a playoff hole and qualified as the alternate. Senior Troy Novak recorded an 86 and junior Chad Weldon a 90 as both failed to qualify. The Tiger team will host Seneca Valley this afternoon at Diamond Run GC in a key section match. Tee off time is scheduled for 3:30 pm. WPIAL SEMIFINALS
* - won playoff * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS BEAT WIND AND NORTHGATE, 203-266 The Tigers defeated Northgate, 203-266, on a very windy and cold Monday afternoon at Shannopin CC. Despite the weather conditions, junior Clif Dietrick led the way with a 3 over 39 followed closely by Zack Wessel and junior Alex Hendrickson with 40s. Junior Chad Weldon added a 41 for the winning Tigers. The win gives NA a 9-2 section record, a 12-3 overall mark. Four Tigers --- seniors Jake Wrigley, Troy Novak and Zack Wessel, along with junior Chad Weldon --- will compete in the WPIAL semifinals this morning at Pittsburgh National GC. Tee off time is scheduled for 9:00 am. MATCH SUMMARY
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS STOP PINE-RICHLAND, 199-204 Seniors Jake Wrigley and Troy Novak led the way with both shooting 39s as the Tigers avenged an earlier defeat with a 199-204 victory over Pine-Richland at Diamond Run GC on Thursday afternoon. Senior Zack Wessel and junior Clif Dietrick were just one stroke behind at 40 while junior Alex Hendrickson shot a 41 for the winning Tigers. With the win, the NA section record improved to 8-2, the overall mark to 11-3 on the season. The Tigers will travel to Northgate on Monday afternoon for a 3:30 pm section match. MATCH SUMMARY
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * MT. LEBANON TOPS TIGERS, 190-202, The Tigers dropped a 190-202 non-section match at Mt. Lebanon on Wednesday afternoon. Seniors Jake Wrigley and Zack Wessel both shot 39s to claim medalist honors, but it was not enough. Junior Clif Dietrick posted a 40 and senior Troy Novak added a 41 to the Tiger total. With the loss, the overall NA record fell to 10-3 on the season. The Tigers will host Pine-Richland in a key section match this afternoon at Diamond Run GC with tee off time set for 3:30 MATCH SUMMARY
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * FOUR TIGERS QUALIFY FOR WPIAL SEMIFINALS Four Tigers golfers advanced to the WPIAL semifinals thanks to their play in the Section Qualifier at Highland CC on Tuesday. Senior Jake Wrigley shot a two over par 74 to lead the NA qualifiers. Senior Troy Novak and junior Chad Weldon both posed 77s while senior Zack Wessel shot a 78. Junior Alex Hendrickson posted an 84 and junior Clif Dietrick an 85 with both missing the cut. The Tiger team will be back in action this afternoon when they travel to Mt. Lebanon to meet the Blue Devils in a non-section match. Tee off time is scheduled for 3:30 pm. WPIAL SECTION 3 QUALIFIER
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS TAKE TWO AT DIAMOND RUN The Tigers downed both Northgate and Shady Side Academy at Diamond Run GC on Wednesday afternoon. Seniors Troy Novak and Zack Wessel, along with junior Clif Dietrick, all shot two-over 37s to pace NA to a 188-243 section victory over Northgate and a 188-201 non-section win over Shady Side Academy. Junior Chad Weldon added a 38 and junior Alex Hendrickson added a 39 for the winning Tigers. With the wins, NA improved to 7-2 in section, 10-2 overall. Next up will be the section qualifier at Highland CC on Tuesday. Representing NA will be seniors Troy Novak, Zack Wessel, and Jake Wrigley along with juniors Clif Dietrick, Alex Hendrickson and Chad Weldon. Tee time is scheduled for 8:30 am. MATCH SUMMARY
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * 2009 WPIAL BOYS' GOLF The Tigers will compete again in Division I of the WPIAL along with 59 other teams. The top two teams and ties for second place in each section will enter the team championship semi-finals on October 14, 2009. If two teams tie for second place but one of the teams has lost both head-to-head contests, that team will not enter the tournament round. Three-way ties will be broken in the following manner: 1) Section records of the ties teams
will be compiled. A team champions will be declared in both divisions. In 2009, the WPIAL WILL participate in the PIAA Team Tournament. The format for boys' golf is a team comprised of six golfers who play for a combined team total medal score for the day. Only the top five scores will count to determine the team winner for the match. This format is in effect for all team matches. In case of a tie in the total medal score, each coach will choose two players to represent their squad in a two-hole playoff with the twosome shooting the lowest combined score winning. If there is still a tie after the two-hole playoff, the players will play "sudden death" extra holes until the tie is broken. INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS The WPIAL Individual Championship will be contested by qualifying players representing member schools. Each player must follow the approved qualifying process in order to qualify for the championship. No alternates need to be decide from each sectional qualifier; however, for the semi-finals and final alternates should be selected by designating the playing finishing next in order after the qualifiers have been determined. SECTIONAL QUALIFIERS Each section qualifier will be hosted at
one of the section courses. The 2009-10 sectional qualifiers have been
scheduled for Monday, September 21, 2009. Players will advance from
each sectional qualifier to the semifinal round by: SEMI-FINAL QUALIFIERS Each semi-final qualifiers will consiste of qualifiers from each of the sixteen sectional tournaments. The semi-final round will be conducted on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 or Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at four different courses. The individual Final Round will consist of forty-eight contestants - the top twelve from each semi-final round site. INDIVIDUAL FINALS The Final Round will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at a course to be designated and will be managed by members of the Golf Committee. The top twenty-four contestants from the WPIAL Final Round will qualify for the Western PIAA Individual Qualifying Round with qualifiers from five other PIAA western districts on Wednesday, October 21, 2009. The top twenty-two contestants from the Western Regional Qualifying Round will qualify for the PIAA Championship Finals at Heritage Hills Golf course on October 26 & 27, 2009. 2009 BOYS' GOLF ALIGNMENT - DIVISION I:60 TEAMS
