by Lee Mohn
(5/2/13) The North Allegheny Girls Lacrosse team had a chance to clinch a playoff spot Thursday night but Quaker Valley kept their own post-season hopes alive with a 10-8 victory over the Lady Tigers. The Tigers led 5-4 late in the first half when Quaker Valley tied the game with 35 seconds left in the half to even the score, 5-5. The Quakers scored the first two goals in the second half just 44 seconds in to take a 7-5 lead. The Quakers would open a 9-6 lead before NA battled back, getting goals from Christine Palmeri and Isabella Cottone to cut the lead to 9-8 with 3:16 to go. The Quakers would win the next draw and went into stall mode to put the game away. NA was led offensively by Cottone who scored three goals earning Wright Automotive Player of the Game honors. Palmeri and Rena Ferrara had two goals apiece. The Tigers fall to 4-4-1 and will take on Seneca Valley on Friday afternoon at home. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS HUNT DOWN FOXES, 16-9
(4/23/13) Four Lady Tigers scored hat tricks on Tuesday night as the North Allegheny Girls Lacrosse Team dismantled Fox Chapel, 16-9, at Newman Stadium. Junior attack Rena Ferrara, senior middie Christine Palmeri, sophomore attack Isabella Cottone, and sophomore middie Yvonne Chick all posted hat tricks, with Ferrara leading with the way with five goals. Ferrara also assisted on several other goals, earning her Wright Automotive Player of the Game honors. As was the result on faceoffs throughout, Palmeri won the game’s opening draw and the Tigers began a lengthy possession that culminated on a Cottone shot that bounced past Fox Chapel goalie Dana Gerson for a 1-0 lead. Aggressive defense led to NA’s next goal just 26 seconds later as a Tigers double team forced an errant pass that was stolen by Ferrara who muscled her way in front of the net for her first goal of the night and the score was 2-0, Tigers. Fox Chapel responded with a goal by Natalie Bonaroti, her first of four on the night, to cut the score to 2-1 with 21:30 left in the first half. With nearly 10 minutes elapsed in the opening half, Cottone increased NA’s lead to 3-1 with her second goal of the night. Once more, the Foxes answered with a goal by Rachel Wight to stay within striking distance, 3-2, with 14:48 to go before halftime. The Lady Tigers seized control of the game by scoring five of the next six goals to take an 8-3 lead into intermission. North Allegheny opened the second half with two goals by Palmeri with just 41 seconds elapsed from the clock, putting the Lady Tigers ahead, 10-3. Reluctant to give in, the Foxes cut the score to 10-5 on markers by Wight and Annalise Becer. North Allegheny rolled off four straight goals, three of which from Chick, to put away the Foxes and the competitive phase of the game for a 14-5 advantage. The Lady Tigers coasted from there, putting an end to a five game winless streak. North Allegheny jumps to 4-4-1 overall and 3-3-1 in Division 1, Section 2. Fox Chapel falls to 5-6 overall and 2-6 in section play, providing a bit of breathing room between the Tigers and Foxes in the section standings. The Lady Tigers hit the road on Thursday night for a road game against the Franklin Regional Panthers. Start time is slated for 7:30 pm. GAME

(4/8/13) The North Allegheny Girls Lacrosse Team raced out to a 12 goal lead and steamrolled Franklin Regional for a 14-4 victory on Monday night. Sophomore Isabella Cottone scored the game’s first goal and opened up the floodgates for the Lady Tigers, on her way to a five goal performance. Senior Christine Palmeri, a Seton Hill recruit, scored four goals and helped set up several others in the rout over the Panthers. Following Cottone’s opening goal, sophomore Yvonne Chick made it 2-0 Tigers with a marker just over a minute later. Franklin Regional, a team that went winless a year ago, displayed some of their new found confidence in 2013 by cutting into the Tigers lead on a tally by Alex Hodowanec at 19:29 of the first half to bring the score to 2-1. That was the closest the Panthers would get as NA rolled off twelve straight goals to build an insurmountable 13-1 lead. While Cottone and Palmeri were the top scorers on the night, many of the Tigers goals were sparked on the defensive end by Yvonne Chick. By forcing numerous FR errors with her aggressive defense, the sophomore helped turn those turnovers into points on the fast break and was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game. Joining in on the blowout of Franklin Regional, junior Rena Ferrara, sophomore Erin Keelan and sophomore Jessica Brandon all scored goals in the victory. With the win, the Lady Tigers improve to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in Division 1, Section 2. Franklin Regional falls to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in section play. Up next for North Allegheny is a Tuesday night visit to Quaker Valley. Start time is scheduled for 7:30 pm. GAME
