SEMLER NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR (5/14/13) North Allegheny’s Corky Semler was recently named the Pennsylvania State Swim Coaches Men’s Coach of the Year. Semler celebrated his final year as Tigers Swimming coach with WPIAL titles by the Boys and Girls squads. Not done there, the Lady Tigers took second place at states while the NA Boys earned a fourth place showing in PIAA competition. In Semler’s 35 years as NA’s coach, the Tigers won over 20 WPIAL titles and nine PIAA championships. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS TAKE 2nd PLACE, BUERGER EARNS ANOTHER GOLD AT STATES (3/17/13) The WPIAL Champion North Allegheny Tigers Swim Teams concluded the year with an impressive finish at the PIAA Championships at Bucknell University this weekend. NA Boys earned a fourth place finish and the Lady Tigers grabbed silver with a second place showing. Helping the Lady Tigers to the silver was sophomore Jacquelyn Du who grabbed her own silver medal in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.91. North Allegheny took fourth place in the 400 freestyle relay, clocking in at 3:29.66. The Lady Tigers ended the competition with a team score of 165. Hershey won the Girls’ PIAA Championship with a new state record of 292, breaking their own PIAA mark of 269.5 from 2011. For the NA Boys, Zach Buerger once again shined for the Tigers, garnering his second gold medal of the championships with a first place finish in the 500 freestyle. Buerger took the gold with a time of 4:28.12 while teammate Sam Rutan earned fifth place in the same event, clocking in at 4:33.07. North Allegheny grabbed fourth place in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:07.23. The NA Boys ended the competition in fourth place with a team score of 156, topping the list amongst WPIAL competitors, finishing 34 points ahead of fifth place Upper St. Clair. Congratulations to the North Allegheny Swimming Team and coaching staff for another terrific season. BOYS DAY ONE STANDINGS GIRLS DAY ONE STANDINGS * * * * * * * * * * * * * * WPIAL SWIMMING AND DIVING - 2012-13 The Tigers will compete again in the WPIAL in Class AAA along with 29 other teams. The WPIAL swimming program will be operated during the 2011-12 school year on a double dual meet basis for all section meets. The boys and girls will swim at the same time at the same pool. National Federation scoring system will be in effect. The scoring system used in the meet will correspond to the total number of available lanes in the competition pool, except where modified by prior mutual consent. Section champions will be determined by the best won/loss record in section play. In the case of a tie in section record for first place, all tied teams will receive a plaque.
