NA CHEERLEADING BOOSTER MEETING

October 19, 2009

Opening Remarks

Elizabeth Webber and Ann Burnett approved the minutes from the last meeting.

Updates

T-shirt sales are near the end.  Sharon Burnham has about 50 of the various sizes.  Contact Sharon if anyone asks for more t-shirts.  Hoping to have tables at the NH/NA football game on the 30th and to have tables at NAI & NASH prior to play-off games.

JV parents who were scheduled to work last weeks t-shirts sales at the varsity game were rescheduled for the 30th to help with Coat Drive.

The Varsity pasta dinner was great success!  Thank you Andrea Conley who held it at her house.

Planning on changing to non-profit status.  Monica Gambino is looking into it.

Some of the cheer boosters plan to meet with Bob Bozzuto when football season is over.

The flights to Nationals in Orlando, which we announced at the last meeting, are going to stay as is.

·        Take place in new venue of the Bryce Jordan Center.

·        Approved to reserve and take coach buses.

2/11/10-2/15/10 – Orlando

The coaches asked for approval for 18 new Cheer Signs for competitions – Approved.

Treasurers Report

The t-shirt sales proved to be a huge success!   The long sleeve shirt sales were a major reason for the increase in sales along with the sales in the middle schools.  Again, the elementary schools sales were large.

The financial report was approved by Monica Gambino & Ann Burnett.

Fundraising & Community Support

A few possible community service projects & fundraising were discussed at tonight’s meeting.

1.     Santa Luncheon – Kelley Kaparakos – Kelley will be discussing the girls’ involvement in the Santa Luncheon at the Hampton Banquet Hall on Saturday, December 19, 2009 to benefit the local underprivileged with the coaches and girls.  She will give us more information at the next meeting after meeting with coaches & girls.

2.     Pittsburgh Public Schools – Cindy Werner – Cindy approached the board regarding the girls possibly donating bags containing three items (an educational book or novel, an educational game and school supplies) for underprivileged children in the school were she teaches (Lincoln) for the holidays.   There is a need for approximately 50 7th graders from Lincoln to target.  Cindy will also meet with the coaches & the girls and check back with us at the November meeting.

3.     A Project: Unite on Game Night – Beth Vuono – Beth has distributed a sign-up sheet at tumbling on Monday for help with collecting the coats at the 10/30/09 game versus North Hills which will mainly be Freshman & JV squads.  She also distributed a sign-up sheet for distribution on the coats on Sunday, 11/1/09 at the Millvale Community Outreach Center from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. which will involve all the squads.  Beth is checking on parent permission for the girls to help on 11/1/09.

4.     Basketball Cheer Clinic – JoAnn Vandergrift – JoAnn & Patti McClure are working on the date for the clinic and basketball game for the girls to perform - probably some time in December.  More info will be coming at the November meeting.

UBO

Mary Collins will be making the Kennywood Basket to donate.  She is currently collecting any donations.  Thank you Mary for handling this.

There was another thank you to Mary for homecoming decorations and a lovely event.  She thanked all of her fellow board members for their help also.  Homecoming pictures are available on our website under photo gallery for viewing and downloading.

Clothing

Sandy Mencini has reported all clothing is in and distributed (other than special orders).  The board is looking for a new clothing chair since Sandy will be done after this year.

Varsity

Senior night for soccer went well.  Pictures from that event are on the website but parents are advised to contact the photographer directly if interested in buying any pictures.

The senior dinner at Webber’s house will be Thursday, October 29th as well locker decorating and possibly sign making.  Elizabeth Webber also purchased costumes for the game on the 30th for $5 each and will collect the money directly from the girls for reimbursement.  Senior parents were advised to take pictures of the lockers for future reference.  Senior parents should check the mail soon for your invitation for football senior night and respond quickly as to how you would like to be announced.

Elizabeth Webber has extra uniforms at her house should anyone need to upsize or downsize.

Junior Varsity

Working on updating the team picture.  JoAnn advised that it should be done soon to be included in the basketball program.

Freshman

All uniforms have been returned and their updated team picture is available to view on the photo gallery.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:16 p.m.  Next meeting will be Monday, November 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the Baierl Center in the Ponce Room.
