Chris Hoffman to continue golf career at Allegheny

North Allegheny senior Chris Hoffman officially signed his letter of intent to continue his golf career at Allegheny University.

Hoffman has been a four-time WPIAL Individual Championship participant and two-time PIAA Individual Championship participant. His best finish at the WPIAL Championships was fourth place this past fall. He also had a 25th place finish in 2023, a 12th place finish in 2022 and a 34th place finish in 2021. Hoffman came in 16th place this past season at the PIAA Championships. He also participated in 2022 where he came in 32nd place.

Hoffman was a very important part of North Allegheny winning their first team WPIAL title since 1971 and first ever state championship. He shot a 75 at the WPIAL Team Championships while shooting a 70 at the PIAA Team Championships.

Hoffman is joining an Allegheny team that has made 31 NCAA Championship Appearances,  they boast 55 All-Americans, nine NCAA Top Four Finishes and a NCAA Division III National Championship in 1983.

Tigers claim first state title in program history

North Allegheny traveled to Penn State Golf Course on Wednesday morning to participate in the PIAA Class 3A Team Championship. The Tigers were named state champions for the first time ever, shooting a combined two-under par, defeating second-place South Fayette by four strokes.

Coming off of a fifth-place finish in the PIAA Individual Championship, Ravi Desai shot a 4-under-par 68. Chris Hoffman, who also competed in the PIAA Individual Championships, shot a 2-under-par 70. Preston Troiano added an even par 72, while Liam Cooper carded a 76. Colin Ward scored a 79.

Winning the state title concludes a historic year for the North Allegheny boys’ golf team. The Tigers won their first section title since 2015, the first outright since 2013. NA won the WPIAL Championship for only the second time ever and the first since 1971 and clinched their first-ever state title. Congrats to head coach Pat Niven and the entire team and staff for a tremendous season.

Desai finishes 5th in the state, Hoffman in top 20

North Allegheny’s Ravi Desai and Chris Hoffman took on the Penn State Golf Course for the second day in a row. Playing in the same group, both Tigers shot very well.

Both Desai and Hoffman were tied for 17th place after the opening round. On Day two, Desai shot a 68 to move up the leaderboard. He would end up finishing tied for fifth. Hoffman stayed consistent shooting his second 71 in as many days. He finished tied for 16th place.

Desai and Hoffman will join the rest of their NA boys golf teammates tomorrow for the PIAA Team Championship at Penn State Golf Course. Tee times are as follows:

Desai, Hoffman tied for 17th place after Day 1 of PIAA Championships; Dings shoots 86

Three North Allegheny golfers took on Penn State Golf Course on Monday morning in the PIAA 3A Individual Championships.

On the boys side, Ravi Desai and Chris Hoffman both shot one-under par 71’s to put themselves tied for 17th place, five shots back of the lead. Dylan Ramsey of Cedar Crest is the leader in the clubhouse shooting a 66 on the first day.

In the girls competition, Kayli Dings currently sits in 32nd place, shooting an 86 in the first round. Mya Morgan of Elizabeth Forward is leading the way after shooting a 68.

All three Tigers will play 18 more holes tomorrow in the final round of the PIAA Individual Championships. Desi and Hoffman will tee off at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday while Dings will tee off at 10:40 a.m.

NA wins second ever WPIAL Championship, first since 1971

North Allegheny traveled to Cedarbrook Golf Course to take part in the WPIAL Team Championships for the second straight year. After finishing in fourth place a year ago, the Tigers used the experience of competing in the event to get to the top of the mountain and claim WPIAL gold. It was the second WPIAL championship ever for North Allegheny and the first since 1971.

North Allegheny shot a team score of 386, beating runner-up South Fayette by three strokes. Ravi Desai led the Tigers shooting a 72. Chris Hoffman and Preston Troiano each carded 75’s. Liam Cooper added an 81 while Colin Ward and Charlie Burbick shot 83 and 84 respectively.

North Allegheny advances to the PIAA Team Championship on October 23 at Penn State Golf Course. On October 21 and 22, Hoffman and Desai will compete in the PIAA Individual Championships as well at Penn State.

NA advances to WPIAL Team Championship for second straight year

North Allegheny traveled to Champion Lakes Golf Course in Bolivar, PA to take part in the WPIAL 3A Team Semifinals. As a team, the Tigers shot 390 as a team, good enough for second place behind Fox Chapel at 380. With the top three teams qualifying for the WPIAL Team Championship, NA punched their ticket to the event on Thursday. This will be the second straight year that the Tigers made the final round of the WPIAL Team Tournament.

Colin Ward shot a 73 to lead the Tigers. Preston Troiano carded a 77 while Ravi Desai and Liam Cooper both shot 79’s. Chris Hoffman and Charlie Burbick each had 82’s.

North Allegheny advances to the WPIAL 3A Team Championship on Thursday at Cedarbrook Golf Course starting at 10:00 a.m. They will be competing against Fox Chapel, Plum, Belle Vernon, West Allegheny and South Fayette.

 

Hoffman, Desai qualify for PIAA Individual Championships

Five North Allegheny golfers traveled to Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, PA to compete in the WPIAL 3A Boys Individual Championship Final Round on Tuesday morning. Chris Hoffman and Ravi Desai both finished in the top 14 punching their ticket to the PIAA Individual Championships.

Hoffman made a great push as he was tied for ninth after the first round. He shot a one-under par 70 on Tuesday to finish tied for fourth place. Desai shot an 80 to finish in 11th place. Preston Troiano and Liam Cooper each shot 88’s to finish 40th and 42nd respectively while Colin Ward shot an 87 to finish in 41st.

Hoffman and Desai will compete in the PIAA Individual Championships on October 21 and 22 at Penn State Golf Course. As a team, North Allegheny will return to action next Tuesday on October 8 when they compete in the WPIAL Team Semifinals at a site and time to be determined.

Three Tigers in top ten after WPIAL Individual First Round; All five make cut

Five North Allegheny golfers traveled to Southpointe Golf Club in Canonsburg, PA to participate in the first round of the WPIAL Individual Championships. It was a great day for the Tigers as three of their golfers finished in the top ten, and all five golfers made the cut to go to the final round of the WPIAL Individual Championships.

Ravi Desai shot a two-over par 74 and will be tied for second going into the final round. Desai trails the leader, Carson Kittsley of Fox Chapel by a stroke. Chris Hoffman sits in ninth place after shooting a 77. This will be Hoffman’s third appearance in the final round of the WPIAL Individual Championships. Preston Troiano shot a 78 and is currently tied for tenth place. Liam Cooper and Colin Ward each carded a 82 and are both tied for 26th place. With the top 36 golfers moving onto the final round, all five Tigers qualified. Scores from this round will carry over into the final round.

All five golfers move onto the WPIAL 3A Individual Championship Final Round which will take place on October 1 at Oakmont Country Club. The team will be back in action on October 8 when they compete in the WPIAL Team Semifinals with site, time and opponents still to be determined.
