Angie Genter, Laura Schwendeman Sign Letters Of Intent

North Allegheny seniors Angie Genter and Laura Schwendeman have signed their letters of intent to play collegiate field hockey. Genter has committed to play for Marywood University and Schwendeman has tabbed the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to continue her career.

Genter, the team captain and season MVP, lead the team from mid-field this year. As a four-year varsity starter, she has been an integral part of NA Field Hockey’s winning history. Genter also plays for Team Golden Triangle, a local Pittsburgh club, and has participated in several state and national indoor tournaments representing Western PA.

Schwendeman is a four-letter recipient and a three-year varsity starter. In 2018 she scored 6 goals and was among the leaders in assists as well as defensive plays. Schwendeman is the captain of the U19 Team Golden Triangle club team and obtained several sportsmanship awards from both the club coaches and North Allegheny team. Schwendeman is a National Merit Finalist, and in 2018-19 has received the Rensselaer Medal for Sciences, Duquesne University Award for Biomedical Engineering and the Society for Women in Engineering Award.

Genter is a member of the National Honor Society and plans to major in Speech Pathology at Marywood. Schwendeman will major in Mechanical/Biomedical Engineering.

Laura and Angie would like to wish all their friends and teammate great success with their own future academic and athletic achievements.

Bridget Russell Commits To Kean University

North Allegheny’s Bridget Russell has committed to play college Field Hockey at Kean University in New Jersey next year. A four-year varsity starter at NA, Russell has been a key contributor for the Tigers. She tallied 11 goals and was among team leaders in assists during the 2018 campaign. Russell was a First Team All Section 1 WPIAL selection in 2017 and First Team All-WPIAL in 2018.

Russell also plays for the local field hockey club, Team Golden Triangle. She has traveled to multiple national field hockey tournaments with the club, including the National Field Hockey Festival and National Indoor Tournament.

While at Kean, Russell plans to study education and hopes to become an English teacher in the future. Best wishes to her in her endeavors on the field and in the classroom.

Three Tigers Receive All-WPIAL Laurels

Three North Allegheny field hockey players have been named to the All-WPIAL team for the 2018 season. Seniors Bridget Russell and Kayley Cooper (in photo above) were both selected to the first-team All-WPIAL squad. Junior Hailey Wachowiak earned second-team laurels.

A veteran presence on offense, Russell finished second on the team with 11 goals this past fall, many of which coming in clutch situations. Cooper was a valuable member of the NA defense and also netted a pair of goals on offense, epitomizing her versatility. Wachowiak was the team’s leading scorer with 16 markers on the season.

Congratulations to all three players on being named All-WPIAL.
