Girls' Golf Game Summaries

The North Allegheny girls’ golf team claimed state silver on Wednesday with a second place showing at PIAA girls’ golf championships at Heritage Hills Golf Resort. The Lady Tigers, the two-time WPIAL champs, were vying for a second straight state crown as well but fell just short of their goal. North Allegheny took second place with a team score of 338. Shady Side Academy, who finished in second place to the Tigers at the WPIAL championships, won the state title with a team score of 330.

North Allegheny sophomores Caroline Wrigley and Christina Lewis paced the black and gold by each shooting a 79 at the par 72 course. Freshman Esha Vaidya tallied an 85 and senior Jessica Hood carded a 95. Shady Side’s Katherine James had the best shooting day with a 4-over par. Girls Golf Summary at PIAA Championships, 10-26-16

Going up against the best the state of Pennsylvania had to offer, North Allegheny sophomore Christina Lewis shot a 174 at the two-day PIAA Individual Championships for a 14^th place showing. Lewis, the third-place finisher at the PIAA Western Regional, shot an 85 on day one of the state finals and carded an 89 on Tuesday. Senior Mia Kness of Peters Township took first place at the PIAA championships with a 144. For a look at the entire field from the state individual finals, click here.

Lewis and the rest of the North Allegheny girls’ golf team will vie for a team title on Wednesday.

North Allegheny sophomore Christina Lewis shot a 3-over par 72 to take third place at the PIAA Girls’ West Region Golf Championships on Monday and qualify for the PIAA championships. Lewis tied with Canon-McMillan’s Taylor Waller for third place and finished just four shots behind the leaders. Mia Kness of Peters Township and Lauren Freyvogel of Pine-Richland tied atop the leaderboard with a 1-under.

Sophomore Caroline Wrigley, the WPIAL individual champion, shot an 80 to finish in eighth place and narrowly missed the cut. The top six golfers advanced to the PIAA championships next week. For a look at the individual scoreboard from Monday’s event, click here.

The North Allegheny girls’ golf team captured a second straight WPIAL title with a team score of 329 at the WPIAL Championships at Cedarbrook Golf Course on Thursday. In a very competitive battle, the Tigers edged out second-place Shady Side Academy by one. Peters Township scored 362 and Butler came in with a 387.

The scores for the match between NA and Shady Side were identical from the first four matches. The final match proved pivotal with North Allegheny’s number five golfer, freshman Esha Vaidya, posting the needed score for the win with an 88. The Lady Tigers were paced by Christina Lewis and Caroline Wrigley who each shot a 78. Senior Jessica Hood posted an 85 and Jordan Farrell checked with an 89. Shady Side was led by Casey Morrow and Katherine James who each tallied a 78.

North Allegheny will celebrate its back-to-back WPIAL championship before setting its sights on PIAA gold. The Lady Tigers will move on to the PIAA Championship on October 26.

Girls Golf Summary at WPIAL Championships, 10-13-16

The North Allegheny girls’ golf team qualified for the WPIAL Team finals with a second place finish on Monday at Murrysville Golf Course. The Lady Tigers posted a team score of 345, behind only Shady Side Academy who topped out with a score of 331.

Fresh off her first place performance at the WPIAL Individual finals, sophomore Caroline Wrigley paced the Lady Tigers with a score of 78. Fellow sophomore Christina Lewis posted an 84 and was followed by freshman Esha Vaidya and senior Jessica Hood who carded a 90 and 93, respectively.

North Allegheny advances to the WPIAL championship to defend its title. The championship event will be held at Cedarbrook Red course on Thursday at 10:00 a.m.
