Lady Tigers Shutout Talbots For Section Win
North Allegheny blanked the Hampton Talbots on Saturday night for its first section win of the season. The Lady Tigers defense smothered the Talbots and made a two-goal lead stand up in a hard fought victory.
NA controlled possession for the majority of the first half with continued pressure on the Hampton defense. That pressure paid off in the 30th minute when Sarah Chomos fired a shot at the top of the 18 that the Talbots keeper deflected, but Maria Gonchar knocked in the rebound to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Hampton built pressure within the first 10 minutes, looking for the game’s equalizer. Turned away by the NA defense, however, the Talbots fell behind 2-0 when Savana Yurick scored in the 60th minute to put the game on ice for the Tigers.
North Allegheny improves to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in section play. Hampton drops to 1-2-1 overall and 0-2 in Section 2-AAA. The Lady Tigers visit Butler on Monday night. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 pm.
