NA Falls To Kentucky Powerhouse St. Xavier, 12-7

The North Allegheny boys’ lacrosse team fell, 12-7, to the St. Xavier (KY) Tigers on Tuesday afternoon at North Allegheny Intermediate High School in a non-section contest.

The game was originally scheduled for Newman Stadium but torrential downpours overnight and continued inclement weather in the forecast prompted a venue and time change. St. Xavier, the five-time reigning champions in the state of Kentucky, showed no ill effects from their long trip to Pittsburgh and jumped out to leads of 3-0 at the end of one quarter and 6-2 by halftime.

Despite falling behind early, North Allegheny continued to fight back and cut the deficit to one goal three different times in the contest. Leading 7-6 with 8:38 remaining in the fourth quarter, St. Xavier pulled away in the final stanza by scoring five of the final six goals to claim a 12-7 victory. Sophomore Kaiden Sullivan led the way for the visitors with a game-high five goal effort. David Powers, Davis Mayer and Thomas Andriole all scored two goals each for St. Xavier.

North Allegheny’s comeback bid was paced by sophomore Jonathan Castillo, who posted a hat trick, two ground balls and an assist. Junior Travis Lamark tickled the twine twice and chipped in with an assist. Sophomore Nicholas Sichak and senior Evan Lyon tallied one goal apiece. Lyon added four ground balls and two assists in a strong all-around effort.

Junior Colman Craft aided the defense with four ground balls and two takeaways. Junior goalie Logan Lyle made 11 saves and tallied two ground balls in net.

With the loss, North Allegheny dips to 0-4 overall, while St. Xavier improves to 6-3. Following a tough non-section slate, North Allegheny will host Shady Side Academy in the section opener on Thursday night. The game will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
