After a pair of narrow road losses, the North Allegheny girls’ volleyball team returned to the friendly confines of UPMC Court for the 2025 home opener and tallied a 3-1 non-section victory over Shaler. The Tigers prevailed by set scores of 25-11, 16-25, 25-16 and 25-23.

The eight-time reigning PIAA champions stormed out of the gates in set one, grabbing an immediate 15-4 lead, and cruised to a 25-11 win. Senior Geneva Adams blistered the Titans with a bevy of big swings, totaling four of her 10 kills in the opening set. Senior Dede Alualu added three aces in a convincing effort.

The Titans regrouped in set two, thanks in part to the play of senior Octavia Dixon, who posted three kills and an ace. Senior Bella Hoffman chipped in with three aces to lift Shaler to a 25-16 victory, tying the match score at 1-1.

Dixon continued her strong play with four more kills in set three and helped the Titans take a 13-11 lead. However, the Tigers rallied back and scored eight of the next nine points to take a 19-14 lead. The serving of senior Keely McMahon-Regan and junior Molly Robertson swung the pendulum back toward North Allegheny, including one ace by KMR and two more by Robertson. Junior middle hitter Alicia Mokube totaled five of her 10 kills on the night to lift NA to a 25-16 triumph.

In set four, Shaler built a six-point lead at 15-9 and seemed destined to force a fifth and decisive set. With the Titans holding an 18-14 advantage later in the game, the Tigers once again sparked a rally, thanks to the serving strength of McMahon-Regan and Robertson, tying the score at 19-19. Shaler regrouped to take a 23-20 lead, but NA staged a dramatic comeback and stunned the Titans with a 5-0 run to earn a 25-23 victory. A kill and block by Mokube, a block by McMahon-Regan and a kill by Adams spearheaded the match-ending run.

With an outstanding all-around performance, McMahon-Regan was tabbed the Wright Automotive Player of the Match. KMR led the Tigers with 33 assists and posted 15 digs, many of which were of the spectacular variety.

There were many other important contributions on the evening, including a team-best 11 kills and three aces by Robertson. Senior libero Reagan Riordan notched a team-best 17 digs to pace the defense.

The win improves North Allegheny’s record to 1-2 on the young season, while Shaler slips to 0-3. The Tigers will head to the South Hills on Saturday for the Upper St. Clair Tournament, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
