Tigers Sweep Raiders For Crucial Section Win
By: Jared Barton
The North Allegheny girls’ volleyball team took care of business at home Wednesday night, sweeping the Seneca Valley Raiders 3-0 at UPMC Court. The Tigers won by set scores of 25-13, 25-22 and 27-25.
Set one was nearly all Tigers, with multiple aces from players like senior Dede Alualu and sophomore Vivienne Deily-Nelson. Senior Catie Cooper and sophomore Paige Shanahan each registered a kill and a block. Junior Molly Robertson had two aces and a kill.
NA jumped out to an early lead in set two behind the strong play of Robertson and junior Alicia Mokube, who registered multiple kills in the frame. Shanahan also contributed with a block and a kill. Senior Keely McMahon-Regan had an ace and later a block to end the second set.
The Raiders did everything they could to stay in the third set, and held multiple leads in the frame, but strategic timeouts and service runs kept NA alive. Senior Geneva Adams started the set with a kill, followed by back-to-back Mokube blasts. Trailing by two, a Robertson kill and McMahon-Regan ace tied the set at seven. Senior Reagan Riordan notched a critical ace to put the Tigers back in the lead 19-18. Robertson had an ace to give the Tigers a chance at the sweep, and the Raiders mishit on the last sequence to end the set in extra points.
Mokube earned Wright Automotive Player of the Game laurels for her efforts, including a team-leading 10 kills and four blocks. Robertson ended the match with seven digs, three aces and seven kills. Deily-Nelson and Riordan led the team with four aces each. McMahon-Regan led the team with 25 assists.
The win improves the Tigers to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in section play. NA is back in action on the road next Tuesday for a match against North Hills at 7:00 p.m.
