The North Allegheny girls’ soccer team cruised to a home section win on Wednesday night, beating Butler 5-0 at Newman Stadium.

The Tigers didn’t waste much time jumping out to an early lead. Senior Ava Hutter lined up for a free kick along the far sideline with 35:15 left in the first half. She angled the ball to fellow senior Luciana Zagacki who tipped the shot past Butler senior keeper Kaylen Yaracs.

In the early stages of the second half, senior Averie Bierker scored to double the NA lead. Ten minutes later, junior Kieran Shannon scored the first of a two-goal night off a cross to make it 3-0 NA with 24:46 left.

With less than 13 minutes to go, another free kick from Hutter found its way to the feet of junior Rosalia Varlotta in the box. Varlotta skipped the ball past the Golden Tornado keeper off the left post, and the shot crossed the line over after hitting the right post and finding a tap from Zagacki in the process.

Shannon added the insurance marker off an assist from junior Bella Montgomery with less than six minutes left in the game.

Junior Jordan Beemer provided the clean sheet for the Tigers in net, only having to make one save in the contest. Bierker was named Wright Automotive Player of the Game for scoring her first goal of the season and her extra effort in the offensive zone during the game.

With the win, North Allegheny improves to 7-2-2 overall and 2-1-1 in section play. The Tigers are back in action for senior night against North Hills next Wednesday. The 7:30 p.m. game will be broadcast on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
