NA Bounces Butler, 3-0

The North Allegheny girls’ volleyball team won its fifth consecutive match on Thursday night with a 3-0 sweep of section foe Butler at UPMC Court. The Tigers successfully defended their home floor by set scores of 25-15, 25-22 and 25-18.
Trailing 3-1 early in the first set, the Tigers put together a 6-0 run, sparked by Keira Duffy‘s serving. The junior defensive specialist produced three aces during the NA spurt for a 7-3 lead. She also tallied six digs on defense. The offensive firepower of junior Alicia Mokube, who delivered four kills and two aces, spearheaded the Tigers to a 25-15 win in set one. Mokube totaled a team-high 15 kills.
Junior Raina Lewandowski, who tallied four kills in the first set, continued her strong play for Butler in set two with three more kills, helping the visiting Tornado keep pace with the Tigers. NA held a slim 20-19 lead before pulling away late for a 25-22 victory.
Similar to set two, Lewandowski and Pitt-Johnston commit, Brynn Cornibe kept things close for a while for Butler. NA held a 15-13 advantage prior to scoring 10 of the final 15 points en route to a 25-18 triumph and sweep of Butler.
Junior Molly Robertson was a consistent force throughout, finishing with 13 kills, eight digs and a team-best two blocks on the night. Senior Catie Cooper rattled off nine kills, and sophomore middle hitter Paige Shanahan chipped in with five kills. Senior libero Reagan Riordan led the defense with 19 digs and senior Dede Alualu added seven digs.
Senior Keely McMahon-Regan was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Match, dishing out a team-high 41 assists, while adding eight digs and a block.
With the win, North Allegheny improves to 5-2 overall and 4-0 in Section 2-4A. Butler falls to 5-4 overall and 1-3 in the section. The Tigers travel east on Saturday for the Cumberland Valley Invitational.
